  1. Capital area here ( Harrisburg ). Holman (lil buffalo) ,Memorial, Opossum, Pinchot, Redman,Williams ,Sweet Arrow, lakes. Hello to Mobbydick & Muddy! We are mapping your way in 2009 adding Tuscarora and Walker on our list too map.
  2. The Fisherman Magizine dated 10/30/2008 NO# 44 Mid Atlantic edition States> In a 2007 study at a unity college in Maine. 38 brook trout were fed a comercial trout diet containing a assortment of plastic lures over a 90 day period. The trout ate from waters surface as well as the bottom Conclusion> lures were recoverd from the stomachs of 63% of test fish. 12.5% of the fish consumed more than 10% of their body mass in "soft plastic lures". That 12.5% lost significant weight , decrease in body condition factor and began displaying anorexic behaviors. Just thought I would share this info and I realize its not a known bait or soft plastic name brand in general.
  3. Muddy! jitterbugs aren't the easyest to master but you can make one heck of alot of wood lures with little experience . I would have done the project for you but I stopped making big game fish lures as mapping picked up. Would be glad to share the easy start up for you and you know my e-mail address now also. The toughest part about making any lure is the ballance and action of the lure. I only use wood lures if I do fish. Mark!
  4. Any of you guys ever visit long pine reservoir a top of Caledonia State park? We have a eye out for that one also but don't hear of anyone fishing it. We made a visit 2 years ago and it looked great from the shore.
  5. Thanks! I'll PM all the request's tonight. Forgot to get on this site last night.
  6. NOW BASSER! I want to know what kind of structure is in this lake? All DCNR says is concrete blocks> why ! they really go out on a limb here for structure. If we can find out about more structure we will map the lake but its iffy due to the small size. Looks like locust lake up near tuscarora lake judging by your pictures. Over 30 views ! > someone must be holding back on me.
  7. Anyone fish Cowans Gap lake in S.C. PA. ?
  8. You need to tell us more like > brush painting or airbrush ? > Wood , Plastic , Cork , Metal or Balsa ?? Paint type does matter for these reasons. As soon as you tell us I'll PM you.
  9. Welcome! I just e-mailed you. I 'm from L.I. light years ago.
  10. Mansfield , Pennsylvania ???
  11. Check out Holman lake in Perry County ( Lil Buffalo State Park) You can walk access 60-70 % of the lake, A clear lake compared to Redman.
  12. Just PM'd you. That should help a great deal on a short notice
  13. Welcome PAFISHSLAYER! You mentioned Pinchot / Redman. As far as I know I'm the only one that makes lake structure maps of these lakes and feel free to PM me for my site info. I have never made it to your area of South Central Pa. but as for now I'm covering from Snyder to York counties for 2008. (BIG stripers lurking in Redman).
  14. One that you can understand! I still use a old 315 from the year 2000. Thats old in todays electronics but it works and its easy to use. The more you use a GPS the better you understand it. Now I don't have street names and turn by turn voice but it will find a turkey roost at 3 am on a mountain top or a fishing hole on a remote stream and all within 15 meters. Thats what its suspose to do and it does!
  15. Adult shad die off every year here in PA. State. Close to 15" on many and some as small as 8". Its common and it dosent mean any of the above like low D.O. , poison or blasting caps. They did say a Lake NOT a Pond. Die off happens after the spawn for landloch shad.
  16. This talk about drying up! have you tried pushing all the air out first before placing the cap on > This reverse pressure is like the original vacuum. Can't leave any room for air so just squeez up till it starts to drip .Then wipe the tred and top it off. Just trying to find your answer.
  17. What are you fishing for? I'm the only one that makes lake structure maps of Lake Redman . I can put you in good water but its the dog days of summer! Check out my map site www.hlsmaps.com
  18. Here's what I gather > its listed as indefinate shore line. My description of that would be > under drawdown conditions > this would be your shore line in that case if it ever happen or happens . The map looks to be made from a original topo and lake map info added over top or "over lapping" and this was done by "WISCONSIN CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT" and thats who to contact. The map is a little confusing but thats a State Engineer at a desk I expect. This is why I do my own maps and started my own company in PA. State. To many out dated lake maps and once its made its all copies forever from that original date.
  19. I'll PM you! Its mid summer heat but I can lead you to the most active fish .
  20. I got another answer! I know of ponds that are larger in size than alot of lakes in the same region. I also noticed names of lakes ending in the word "lake" and others starting the name with "lake". Confused? so I asked my State biologist for the answer. The answer is that there isen't any form to the name such a impoundment as lake, pond, reservouir or dam. Now dam and reservoir are not naturel and pond and lake can be. Its mostly in the name given by whom ever in the State of Pa. So I guess I'm basicly saying thats how Pa. does it. Depends on your state regs. Just thought I'd stir things up tonight!
  21. small sunfish or blue gill at dusk can get big bass.
  22. Once again I agree with him and I know it sounds like a broken record but he who speaks first ( WAYNE ) is doing a great job! I also keep my depthfinders on factory set. I don't like steering away from them unless I 'm very intrested in structure but now I have aqua-vu to do the dirty work. Now my 3D needs no adjustments and since I'm a map maker > I don't hunt fish or thermocline anymore. I also am looking at bottom composition and structure. I do record D.O. levels. All my past finders have found thermo. on factory settings. You mentioned still fishing! I have to be moving I believe to get my best pictures. I'm in stained water all the time and dozens of lakes . Not all will post thermo. in the heat of summer and the ones that do show up are over 20 ft. depth and not extensive. I have found suspended Lmb in these area's that no one fishes just above the thermo at say 18ft. of 30 ft. I don't remember what depthfinder you use> ??? Tell us.
  23. I agree with Wayne P.! I have located thermolcline with Bk / W depthfinders. In lakes under 40 ft. depths. I've used in the passt ie(Humminbird 2000, Lowrance X65, Garmin 160 ) and now Humminbird 3D in Black and White. The cold water layer will deflect a % of the signal and show up in diffrent ways but not as strong as objects. The 2000 showed a black line. The X65 used a gray shaded zone and the 160 showed up as a Lt.shade of gray with a blue type of filter to give it a blue haze on Bk/W screen. In small lakes as originally talked about > I use dissolved oxgen meter to locate fish in summer over Thermo. anytime. As basser said > other items will pinpiont fish VS thermo alone. In lakes over 3000 acres . Ican see trolling the thermo. but not in smaller narrower lakes under 500 acres. In small lakes it depends on the head waters and rain fall amounts. They can change a lake water temp in hours.
