Great Smallmouth Bass Lures
My number one choice for Spring and Fall fishing for Smallmouth Bass are the X-RAP, XR-10. 4", Dives to 4' to 6', 7/16oz. Best colors for the waters that I fish the are #1 Clown, #2 Hot Head...The X-Rap is “all about the action.” It’s the perfect size, shape and 3D illusion of a minnow. Prominent scales and lateral line on the fuselage capture and flash light like a beacon. It can be fished both in an aggressive “Slashbait®” technique or with a classic Rapala wobble. The angler defines the cadence for maximum effectiveness. To get the most out of the X-Rap Slashbait action, use your rod to give the lure more action. The X-Rap responds well to twitches, snaps and jerks – just vary the length and speed of your rod movement to create different actions from sweeps to aggressive darting. When fish are extremely active, use the hard “snap” retrieve to really excite them; with your rod tip down, use a short snap-snap-pause retrieve to get the X-Rap to track in a very narrow manner. When fish are suspended over deep water, or to trigger shallow fish; use the “sweep” retrieve. With the rod tip up, use a long sweep-sweep-pause retrieve for a wider tracking action.

Northern Kentucky
Ohio River Bass Hotspots I tournament fish these areas two time a year. The section of the Ohio River that borders Kentucky contains many excellent tailwater areas. Beginning within the vicinity of Ashland, the Greenup, Meldahl and Markland pools of the state’s northern border provide superb largemouth bass fishing for those anglers who search out these highly productive tailwater regions. Catch Just About Any Fish With Shad Lures on Jigheads
A Few Fishing Methods for Both Shallow & Deep Water Fish If you’re looking for a versatile fishing lure, one of the best artificials you can turn to is a soft-plastic shad lure rigged on a jig head. You could probably catch just about any fish that swims with this simple, inexpensive lure. http://1source.basspro.com/index.php/component/k2/237-fishing-info/3639-catch-just-about-any-fish-with-shad-lures-on-jigheads-video

Ott's Home Made Line Thru Swimbait
More on the rivet rig. Ott DeFoe rigged his swimbait with a rivet to win the upper Mississippi Elite. New deal for bass-heads. Zona now says he knew the same trick and never told anyone about it...including me! What up with that Z? Some deets: For years, he'd fished a soft-plastic jerkbait and swimbait on a Tex-posed hook...with a 65% hook-up ratio. By chance, Zona met an "older-than-me gentleman" who teased Zona with tales of rigging a Strike King Caffeine Shad as a line-through with a treble hook. "You'll never miss them," he promised Zona. The gentleman promised to bring in a pop-rivet.... "You take the hollow sleeve out of the pop rivet. In a pop rivet it's basically a tube with a circular plate on the end of that sleeve. He showed me how to push it from the back side where the 'V' is in a Caffeine shad on the belly, push it up in there towards the nose, and use that nail to clean out the inside of the rivet -- and then your line slides right through it." With a 4.5-5" swimbait, a #2 hook works best while a #4 is the deal with a 4" Caffeine Shad and a #5 on the Magnum size. Zona is adamant that a Lazer Trokar round bend treble hook is an important part of the equation. http://1source.basspro.com/index.php/component/k2/237-fishing-info/3681-fishing-zona-and-defoe-s-riveting-rigging-secret

Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook, Elite Series standout and drop shot master, Aaron Marten, developed the Gamakatsu Aaron Marten's TGW Drop Shot Hook. As Marten says, it's "improved my hook-ups by 30 to 40% ... I rarely miss a fish with these hooks." The Gamakatsu Aaron Marten's TGW Drop Shot Hook features a point that's slightly angled out for optimum effectiveness along with Gamakatsu's exclusive TGW (Tournament Grade Wire) that has 20% less diameter for easier hook penetration without any loss of hook strength. The Gamakatsu Aaron Marten's TGW Drop Shot Hook also features Gamakatsu's proprietary Nano Smooth Coat, a finish that's slick with less resistance than conventional hooks. Nano Smooth Coat further enhances hook penetration making the Gamakatsu Aaron Marten's TGW Drop Shot Hook one of the very best drop shot hooks available. Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook size 2 and Gamakatsu Aaron Martens TGW Drop Shot Hook size 1 are my first choice when I hose hook a Roboworm...- Fishing a new lake?

- Hook set for Midwest finesse / Ned Rig fishing
Take a peak at this link it may be of some help. Good luck fishing the "Ned Rig" How To Fish The “Ned Rig” Once you’ve got the Ned rigged, the rest is easy as it can be effectively fished in almost any hard cover situation, as long as it’s fished on slack line. Dynamite spots to fish the Ned are around points, bluff banks, boat docks, rip rap, and anywhere bass tend to hang out. Once you’ve found a likely spot, just throw the Ned out there and let it sink on a slack line. Watch as it falls for the telltale ‘tick’ that indicates a fish. Often you won’t see any indication of a fish biting, but when you reel up to move the bait, there will be a fish on. Despite its ease to fish, there is one thing that anglers should know when fishing the Ned rig, and it’s that you shouldn’t set the hook traditionally. The tiny gap on the hook has a tendency to pull out of the bass’ mouth if you really jerk on it. Instead, just lean in and start reeling once you feel the bite. It seems crazy, but the fish will hook themselves.- Favorite Fall Baits for Bass?

Glad that the information may help you with your boat maintenance. Once you change the water impeller out, the next time will be a breeze. Any thing that I can do to help please let me know..- Replacing An Outboard's Water Pump
Replacing An Outboard's Water Pump Story And Photos By John Tiger Published: Fall 2013 Don't be put off by the fact that you have to drop the lower unit. Here are some tips to get you through it. 1. Dropping the gearcase to access the water pump requires removal of the mounting bolts. Outboard water pumps are simple designs. Located just atop the lower gearcase assembly, they're easy to access and service, too. The pump houses a rubber impeller that's keyed to the engine driveshaft. Water enters the lower gearcase through inlets on the sides of the gearcase, just above the propeller shaft area. The driveshaft turns the pump inside a plastic housing with a stainless steel liner. The pump draws water through the intakes and up into the housing. The impeller blades (vanes) touch the liner at lower speeds as the driveshaft turns, but as the engine revs up, the impeller blades bend back away from the housing liner. The pump sends water out of the top of the housing through a brass tube, typically about a half-inch in diameter, up to the engine's powerhead, where it circulates through the system's cooling passages. Salt, sand, mud, sticks, and other debris take their toll on the pump impeller, housing, and related parts. That's why most outboard technicians recommend replacement every season, or at worst every other season. There are legions of stories that go "I've had my outboard for twenty years and never replaced the water pump"; however, good preventative maintenance practice includes replacement of the pump and housing at regular intervals. http://www.boatus.com/magazine/trail...water-pump.asp- Tubes, Tubes, Nothing but Tubes
I use 4" Berkley Havoc Ike's Smash Tubes in Black Red Flake/Chartreuse, Green Pumpkin White, Hawkeye and Hot Mess colors. They will fall and glide erratically on every cast, the flatter smashed body makes it easier for hook penetration and the fatter tentacles deliver increased water displacement. The effect of the line often dictates the action of a lure. That's why I use 1/8 oz. weight with 8 pound , 1/4 oz. weight with 12 pound fluorocarbon line.- Swimbait hooks

Try using a BOOYAH POND MAGIC Spinnerbait in 3/16 Oz... The FIRE BUG and FIRE FLY BLADE Colors. They sell them at Wal-Mart for $2.94 each. Tip the Spinnerbait with a 3" or 4" Berkley Powerbait Ripple Shad in Firetiger, Glow Chartreuse and Pearl White colors. Just nose hook the Ripple Shads with the hook coming out of the nose/mouth of the bait. This set up works great on a Spinning Reel while using 6 pound and 8 pound Fluorocarbon Fishing Line ...You can also use a Chatterbait Mini take the skirt off and add a 3" Smelt Ripple Shad...- A TRIP TO Costco!
Yesterday I was at my local COSTCO buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Biscuit, the Wonder Dog and was in the checkout line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had, an elephant? So, since I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter and a car hit us both. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Costco won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the world to think of crazy things to say. Forward this (especially) to all your retired friends.....it will be their Laugh for the day...- How to fish rock piles?
Western Ways, Part 1: The Hideki Rig... "Basically the 'Dek rig is a form of wacky rigging," Murray explains. "It's a wacky rigged Senko with a tungsten nail in it. I know that doesn't sound much different from regular wacky rigging, but the difference lies in the presentation." The rig is comprised of a stickbait, a tungsten nail and an Owner Mosquito hook. Don't get tied to a Senko, though. Murray will also use finesse worms and the occasional craw. Tungsten nails are better than lead for their denser properties; you get more weight with less. Depending on how deep you're going to work it, you'll want anywhere from a 1/16- to 1/4-ounce nail. Murray likes the Mosquito hook because it is self-setting. If he's fishing around submerged trees, he'll select a similar Owner hook with a weedguard. http://www.espn.com/outdoors/bassmaster/fishingtips/news/story?page=b_FT_JM_WesternWays1- A Blast From The Past-----~~~<*))}}}}>><{{

Keep your line as "Vertical" as possible, by adding weight to this set-up you reduce the "Angle" of your line and therefore reduce your chances to get hung up. Use a "Floating Jig Head", for Night Crawlers, inject a shot of air from a Crawler Inflator, For slip sinker weights try a No Snagg "Tube Weight" instead of a "Egg or Walking Sinker". Use a "Slip Bobber Rig" and position the bait just to hang above the rocks. Deep diving "Floating Crank Baits", select a crank bait that will run just off the bottom or bump the rocks, if the lure should get hung up let the line go limp, it should float up. Try using a Owner 4/0 - Twistlock Light with CPS Weighted 3/32 oz with A 4" Berkley Havoc Ike's Smash Tube in the Black Red Flake/Chartreuse Color. - Drop shot hook suggestions?
