  1. No where in fishing is the hook more critical... Start with a short, straight shank 1/0 or 2/0 thin wire model... Bait keeper styles work really well... If you want to go first class, VMC has a hook made especially for the Neko rig... You’re going to run the hook into the bait parallel with the plastic... That’s the opposite of a wacky rig which has the hook extending out from the plastic at a right angle... Make sure the point of the hook is facing towards the weight when you first put it into the bait... That way, when the hook comes out of the plastic it’ll be facing away from the weight... Place the hooks about two-thirds up the bait away from the weight... You’ll see Neko rigs hooked in different places but I’ve done a lot or research into this... I think you’ll get more solid hooksets with it up, away from the weight... That’s because the weight will be down and the hook point will be up when the bass grabs it... If you want to save your baits you can put an O-ring around the lure where the hook shaft is inside the plastic... Make sure your hook point is exposed. This isn’t a Texas rig. https://www.bassmaster.com/mike-iaconelli/mighty-neko-rig
  2. It casts a mile so it's great for combing "Large Flats" or "Expanses" and obviously its ability to work at the widest possible range of speeds makes it a great option... Very user friendly to fish for the first time fisherman.. The ability to completely stop the lure really has many advantages...
  3. This would be my selection if I were to buy good quality fishing rod for the money, and I have many of them... They are like a "Time-X Watch" they take a licking and keep on ticking"... The Powell Inferno Crankbait and Jerk bait Casting Rods @ $99.99... The Powell Nuisance Casting Rods @ $ $89.99 are both great buys at this price point. They will get the job done...They are Backed by one-year Warranty...They normally go on sale at certain times of the year...
  4. If you broke your rod fishing 50 pound braid on a 10 pound rod, or lifting a giant fish into your boat using only your rod, or accidently broke in another fashion then please use the OOPS Replacement Program designed for these situations... Provided that you registered your product and you are the original owner, a 1 Year warranty will cover most failures due to normal fishing situations.... If your rod broke because of material, or craftsmanship it will be replaced quickly and at no charge other than the return shipping.... An Authorized Retailer will possess a brick and mortar storefront location. Fishing rods will not be a warranty product purchased through online auction or marketplace sites (i.e. e-bay etc) due to the untraceable nature of the transaction. A receipt from an Authorized Retailer is a requirement for warranty claims. Claims without proof of purchase will not be accepted. This is the jest of many fishing rod manufactures... Most manufactures warranty will vary from this policy but will have guide line on their stipulations... They may offer a extended warranty in regards for repairs or replacement at additions cost...
  5. Join Fishing for Bass in the Cheese Mats Jason Sealock 11/08/2011 There are certain types of bass fishing that really turn you inside out as an angler. One of those techniques is frogging in grass mats. Turning inside out is not always a good thing. Frogging can be the most exhilarating and breathtaking way to catch bass. And frogging can also be the most frustrating situation ... CHECK YOUR PM's http://www.***/outdoors/***/story/1466084-fishing-for-bass-in-the-cheese-mats

  9. The size structure of the bass population in Newton Lake declined last year. The percentage of bass greater than 18" fell by just over 60%, and comprised only 7% of the total population. At the same time the catch per effort skyrocketed to an incredible 251 bass per hour! This lake continues to support a very good bass population, however, the fishery appears to be on the verge of change. The amount of hot water discharged into the lake has declined significantly, and this has resulted in a reduced growing season. In short, it is transitioning from a cooling lake to an ambient lake. In the near term, recruitment continues to be good and, with body condition and growth rates above average, the fishery should remain stable for the near future. For 2017, Newton Lake should still provide excellent angling opportunities. Anglers can expect to catch large numbers of fish from 15” – 20” in length ranging from 2 – 6 pounds. The majority of bass exceeding the 18” minimum will weigh between 3.5 – 7 pounds. Site Regulation: 3 fish daily limit; 18" minimum length limit. 10. I would suggest for you to fish the "Reservoirs of the Tennessee River Valley", Fort Loudoun Lake, Chickamauga Lake, Guntersville Lake, Wheeler Lake, Wilson Lake, Pickwick Lake, Kentucky Lake, and Barkley Lake... Starting with the "FULL MOON PERIOD" in February to the "FULL MOON PERIOD" in March... Start first with the smallest body of water first to hit pre-spawn/spawn working up to the next largest body of water and so on to the next largest body of water... These "EIGHT RESERVOIRS" will challenge you and give you great diversity of waters to fish... Your travel time will be shortened as to traveling all over the United States giving you more fishing time... Plus your learning curve will be shortened because of similarities of the body's of waters... Three and three fourth days on each Reservoir, talk about running and gunning as a "POWER FISHERMAN"...
  11. I subscribe to the BassMasters Magazine and the B.A.S.S. TIMES... There is some over lap on the articles, both tend to relate to tournament fishing in different locations... You will learn something that will aid you in your fishing venture...

  15. I have just recently bought some of the VMC Ike Approved Neko Hook's, it is built specifically for the "Finesse Technique of Neko-Rigging"... It's forged with a "Three-Degree Offset" for an improved hook-up ratio, the VMC Ike Approved Neko Hook features a long shank and a wide-gap that imparts the "Ideal Vertical Posture". Finished with a resin-sealed eye for increased dependability... They are a little on the expensive side but seem to work well on the Colorado River System for Smallmouth Bass in the Lake Havasu City area... I was fishing a 5" Yamamoto Pro Senko in the colors of Green Pumpkin w/ Green & Purple Flake, Morning Dawn, and Pumpkin w/ Black & Green Flake... 16. On Your Way To Las Vegas Check Out..... Lake Havasu City Arizona on the Colorado River it has Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Striped Bass, Black Crappies, Rainbow Trout, Walleyes, and Catfish...Whether your preference is fishing from a boat, a shore or wading, anglers fishing Colorado River waters regularly take home their limit of fish. Being successful in catching fish takes planning and flexibility. If nothing else, witnessing the sunrise or sunset is reason enough to be on the water. Remember to keep only those fish you intend to have for dinner. Take an extra trash bag along to pick up garbage if the fishing is slow. I’ll see you on the river, though you better hurry ‘cause I’m getting old. http://www.desertusa.com/colorado/lakehavasu/du_lkhavasu.html

  19. Koppers LIVETARGET "Mini Frog" LIVETARGET Hollow Body 45T Frog adds real life features, great paint jobs and realistic look to a small one and 3/4-inch body that weighs 1/4 ounce. It also casts well and walks, glides and scoots like its big brother. The keeled belly combined with anatomical lifelike features work well, the nose points ups, and the 45T can be worked on the surface or dead-sticked. The molded front legs and 3D eyes of this bait are good features...

  22. Angler killed at Genoa Dam... http://www.twincities.com/2017/04/05/fisherman-dies-after-boat-is-sucked-into-dams-churn-on-mississippi-river/ According to multiple reports, James Kenneth Freeman was killed on the Mississippi River after he was pulled into the roller gates of Genoa Dam. Wisconsin DNR says the 52-year-old fisherman’s boat was anchored inside the marked restricted area within just 150 feet of the dam. He was told to leave the restricted area and followed orders, but pulled anchor before cranking the motor. By that time, the current was already pulling his vessel towards the dam. The boat capsized and the current pulled him underneath the roller gates. Witnesses said that Freeman had a life jacket in the boat and was trying to put it on as his boat capsized. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears told The Courier that this is a harsh reminder of the importance of using caution while on the water. “Tragedies like this are unfortunate and should not happen,” Spears said. The incident is still under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
  23. Most fish are predominantly visual feeders, and in clear water they are even more aware of their surroundings...The thinner the line, the more freely the bait will move, which will look more natural to the fish and likely result in more bites... Keep the sun in front of you, concentrate on fishing into the sun, so your shadow is cast behind you. This becomes extremely important when fishing in shallow water... Try a Green or Brown jig that resembles a Crayfish. As a rule, in clear water Greens, Browns, and Translucents will be more effective... One of the most effective techniques is to "Target Shade". Shade acts just like Cloud Cover and decreases visibility, increases activity, and relaxes all fish species... It’s important to provide them a realistic profile, often that means decreasing the size of your presentations...
  24. Try using a small dab of Silicone or Hot Melt Glue in one or both of the bottom corners. That way you can still remove them without too much effort or damage.
