(Un)official Hoosiers Thread
We put the boat in the water for the first time today it was 40 when we started so I wasn't sure...but a guy across the lake got 2 6 pound bass so I was hoping....we started out at the North end of the lake and got 1 fish on a lizard bait where the lake flows out..we threw cranks around that end and nothing so we headed to the south end....we got 1 nice bass a the mouth of a channel on a strike king red eye shad in about 4 feet of water...we then went around and fished the mouth of another channel and the 1st fish in this pic came at that spot...they were just off the mouth of the channel in about 3 feet...(surprised they were not deeper)...we then went to the little lake and fished the beaver dam...and got bass 3 in the pic....5 or 6 feet of water....we then fished some trees and got bass 2 in the pic 5 or 6 feet deep...we lost 3 big fish...one bass that was huge was at that boat and I can still see the bass jump and spit the boat and jump over the net and land about 4 inches from the net....the fish were thick looks like they have been feeding most of the winter..

Indiana Lake Tippi And My Lake
we went up to Lake Tippicanoe this weekend and fished some on Sat we got 5 bass nothing over 14 inches water was very high. I got home and fished for 2 1/2 hours and got 13 I started throwing a KVD 8 and I hooked 2 big fish on that and then lost the bait and didn't get a bite on the KVD 1.5 ...I got the fish on a rage crawl pitching at the dam and trees...I did put 3 bass 3 pounds in the boat..

Indiana One Of Our Better Days
we started fishing yesterday morning and got 14 biggest at that point was 3 pounds. The fish came on strike King crawls and KVD 2.5. I then got a 4 pounder off a point and people started talking about going in and I said no we are fishing the island (has produced more 4 pound and up bass then I bet any structure in the state) so my brother stopped we fished one side and no fish they said ok we are hungry and are going to eat I said no we are stopping at the other side and first cast on other side hooked a monster and got it in after a pic put her back and she swam away....

Indiana Bass
We have been out 3 times (motor issues) we have heard reports of central indiana bass being on the beds so we went to check last night some of those spots and most of the fish at those locations were 15 inch or so males. We went out to the main lake and got a 3 pounder near a point then fished a island in 15 feet of water. I hooked a bass that I felt like a monster right away and we got him to the boat and my brother lipped him and got him 1/4 out of the water and he flopped and he dropped him back in and my 20 pound braded line broke...the fish looked 8-10 pounds...I can still see it in slow motion...here are a couple of pics from some fish that did make it in the boat this spring.

Late Spawn
This years in Indiana has been very slow in years past in the spring we could always find bass in the same spots and would get some big ones full of eggs.We had the worst winer on record this year and we could never find the big bass and the ones we did catch were not fat fish that looked full of eggs. About 3 weeks ago we went out and it is like something clicked and we got 17 fish on KVD 2.5 and 4 really big bass the biggest 7 pounds and they were in spots the bass would spawn and looked full of eggs. I got some big bass since and same deal big fish in spawn bed locations and look full of eggs. Last night went fishing and the little lake that connects (has a river flowing in so I am guessing higher oxygen) has produced the last 3 big bass, and earilier in the day my brother lost a monster. I fished the tree line on the way to the channel and didn't get a bike then went back into the little lake and got a 4 pounder off a beaver dam that looked full of eggs. I then went and fished some trees and got a 5 pounder. On the way out I stopped and fished the beaver dam again same spot my brother lost the monster and got a 6 pounder that was huge. I don't know that bass spawm this late but these fish sure look and seem like they have. Alan

Anyone Catching?
Here in Indiana it was tough unti about 3 weeks ago ....we got 1 bass over 6 (its a private lake that produces lots of big bas) and couldn't get anything over 4 pounds and we couldn't find any fish that looked like they had eggs and they were not where they have always spawned in the past. About 3 weeks ago we got some big fish (7.4) and we have found a number of big fish since and they are where the bass spawn at in the past and some looked full of eggs it's the weirdest thing...No weeds here was a bad winter and has been mild this summer....(had to treat weeds in the past)

The Lake Came Alive (Indiana)
It has been so far this year with such a change in fishing...we had a lot of dead shad when the ice melted and we wondered (I still do) if a lot of the bass had died also...but yesterday they were very much alive.

The Lake Came Alive (Indiana)
Our lake this year had been a shell of what it was in years past it hasn't produced the big fish or the numbers like it had in years past. Last night I went fishing with my brother and we got 10 but it was a hard 10 most were smaller nothing over 2 pounds. We had plans to go again today and I wondered if this would be the day they would turn off. We had a shad kill this winter and we were really wondering if the winter had done a number on the bigger bass. We get out on the lake about 8 and start fishing the docks down and after about 5 docks I pull a 5.8 out and we said wow at least we got 1 good bass if nothing else about 2 bass down the way my kvd 2.5 stopped and this big bass comes flying out we get him up to the boat and my brother went to net him and he was to big and fell out of the net...another min later he got off...he was bigger then the last bass I would say over 6....we keep going on our path and put somef fish in the boat....we go to this one harbor and and I lose another 5 to 7 pound bass....about 2 min later something hits the crank like a train and starts tearing off line and I tell my brother this has to be a cat or carp...he doesn't come up and I'm telling my self it's not a bass...we see the fish flash in the water and see it's a big bass...we boat it and it goes in at 6.3. We then fish another side of the lake and have no luck so we go back across and put more fish in that...with 11bass in the boat we go to he little lake the connects and I have a monster blow up on it and ends up spitting the crank bait...but the bass start feeding like sharks put 4 bass in the boat over 2 pounds in 10 min..then hook a big monster and we get him in and right away know it's bigger then any others and it goes 7.4.......on the way back we fish a section of trees where I hook another very big bass and he jumps and spits it. I was the best day we have had here in Indiana. Alan

Central Indiana
When I said private lakes I really ment a certain one (and one across the road that gave up a 10 last year) 100 acres 35 miles NE of Indianapolis. I ment consistent size compared to other lakes but my best out of it is 10.50 and it has produced a few others that size and I have seen 3 fish that I think were over 11 (one eating a duck...one 5 yards from the boat on brothers line...and one caught off my dock by a friend that hadn't fished in 20 years and had no idea what she had)...This year has been down though after the hard winter things the last few trips have seemed to pick up thought...Have been out 7 times this year (the year we had the mild winter I went out 5 times a week..but the business has picked up)...and we have got a 6.5, 6, and a 5.8 ....this year is the worst I have seen in at least 4 years though.. I do think Geist is your best shot in the lakes around Indianapolis for big fish. The only like I know of in the midwest that is better is a private lake in KY 30 miles from evansville its another world from what we have...

Found Some In The Trees
I was by myself so no great pics but I got some

Found Some In The Trees
last night I went out on the lake with a friend and we ended up getting 15 fish highest number this year but nothing over 2 3/4 a few in that range...all on plastic lizards they wouldn't tough a crankbait...This morning I went out alone and fished our spots and couldn't buy a fish no signs of life....so i said I'll go try this tree line it looks great but it doesn't produce like some of the other spots.....I started to get some bites both on cranks and a brushawg (green) then I pitched it into these trees and felt something pick it up and go about 2 feet with it and I jerk back the rod bends over and I can feel the head shaking so I knew it was a bass I was able to pull it out of the trees and it stayed deep ran under the boat never jumped...I was able to bring it up and get it in the boat....thickest fish I have seen in a very long time had the tip of a tail in it's mouth (big shad I think) ...It weighted 6 pounds and I put it back....I went and fished some other sections and couldn't get another bite and came in.

This Year Has Been Tough
Nice bass..it's funny I took a friend out last night and he put on a frog and in mind mind I'm thinking well he isn't going to get anything on that here but I'll keep my mouth shut and to my surprise he got a few on it...one pretty decent....now I need to go buy some...

Central Indiana
In terms of the public lakes in the Indianapolis area for bass most people go to Geist (fishers) and Morse (near Noblesvile) they produce some fish and Jacob Wheeler posts pics at times of some big ones coming out of geist...there are some private lakes North that produce better and bigger bass but you have to live on them...

Are You A "better" Fisherman Alone Or With Others?
I would rather fish with my brother...we haven't got skunked in 2.5 years on our lake....I fish alone and of course my 10 pounder (indiana) came when I was alone so no good pics of the fish ...(have some not so good ones)

Indiana Picked Up Some
It was weird today I went out at 6 and NO signs of fish....3 boats out and nobody could find fish...they all went in and about 8 tonight they came on and I lost a 3 pounder...then got 1 14 inches....got a 3 pounder.....then I got a big bite and the fish felt about 8 pounds but it was 5.08 hardest fighting fish I have had on this year....

Indiana Picked Up Some
I live on a private lake and until this year in the spring and early summer would produce more 4 and 5 pounders then you could count and you could aways catch fish. This year indiana we had a very long and rough winter lots of snow ice worst in a long time....We started this year ok my brother got a 6.5 pounder and then I got one 5.2 the next weekeend then everything changed. I fished 3 times the last few weeks (I know I should fish more but business is picking up) and got 2 bass to show one 15 inches and one 7 inches. Today my brother came up to fish and I said sure we can try but it's been rough started off slow and we started to get fish on soft plastic (rage tail) they wouldn't touch a spinner or crank at all...most bass were small then my brother got one about 2 pounds it had a red tail and looks like it has been fighting for beds.....about 11 things picked up and I got a 4 pounder on a crank it was big but not pack full of eggs.....then about 20 min later I got 1 about 5 pounds and lost it 6 inches from the boat....my fault....then my brother got 1 about 4 so the quality and numbers of fish picked up....they turned on with the KVD square bill cranks and it seemed like most fish were in 3-5 feet We got 7 total not a great or even good day but did see some good signs after a rough few weeks.

1St Time Out On Our Lake
We got the boat in the water today at the house ( we fished in KY a few weeks ago) the water was a lot warmer then what we thought it would be 61 on north and 57 on the south (100 acres) we fished a hour and got 2 bass 1 about 2 3/5. The fish came on KVD 1.5 in channels or the mouth of channels. We talked to another guy on the water that got a 5, 3, and a 2 pounder. If we could have fished a few more horus into the evening we would have done better. Felt good to at least have the options to fish.
