  1. It isn't so much us as it is the lake..it's a 100 acre private lake was stocked in the 80's I guess...hasn't been stocked since that I know of...we have about 4-5 people that bass fish it...It isn't managed and fish are never culled {it has 30 pound channel catfish and 50 plus pound flatheads that do the culling)...I talked to some biologist types and they said they weren't sure you could grow bass bigger then this here in Indiana...only thing they thought was if Rainbow Trout could live here that might give them a little more size...I'm thinking about the trout option...
  2. My brother came over for a few hours today to fish in the old boat (14 ft jon boat) before we pick up the new one tomorrow. On the 4th cast just pulling away from the dock i get a nice thick 6 pound bass and we keep going...about 15 min later he has some clamps crossed on the trolling battery I see sparks flying and about 10 seconds later a flame comes up and burns for a few before it goes down...I said "we can't let a little fire stop us keep going" so we did ...we fished a spot that he wanted to try (that I knew wouldn't hold fish) and it gave up a few crappies that was it...we then fished another spot and I hooked what felt like a 14 incher until one about 3.5 pounds came flying out and spit it...we boated about 7 nothing big...until we got to the island in the middle I hooked one around 7 pounds and on the 3rd jump she spit the KVD 1.5 that one hurt bad....back at the dock i got one about 15 inches....all the fish but 1 came on a KVD my brother tossed a brushawg all day and couldnt' buy a strike on it...we are on a run here for the past 3 weeks we have put one 4 pounds or bigger in the boat each time...
  3. I shouldnt say anything because I can be the only boat on the lake 6 days a week it is a private Lake and the fun boater types only come out on Sundays but when you are after big bass and the jet skis are going by you are like leave please..lol more so the 16 year olds on jet skis ..
  4. No private 100 acre lake only about 5 people really fish it full of 4-6 pound bass and has bass over 10 geist can't touch it..lol I fished today got one 6 pounds on next cast or 2 I hook another bass and after about 15 seconds he comes flying out of the water he was 6 or bigger he spit it (kvd 1.5) I wasn't as upset as normal since I just got the one before...I got a 3 on the way home ...brother went this morning while we were on our way back from tipp they got 12 biggest was 4.5 -5 (didn't weight that one)...I spent the first 2 hours of the evening fighting jet skis then the bass heated up...also lost one about 5 about 10 min before I got the big one in the boat
  5. We went to our lake cabin in Northen Indiana this weekend got it opened up etc it was fun but it is a public indiana lake not great (has nice musky) bass lake. When I got home i figured I would go out for a few hours and test the new motor my brother got. it was rough at first with some jet ski's ..ski boats etc..in my mind I was thinking come on people. I had got 1 fish and figured I would go fish this one part of the lake that produced tons of big fish laster year but hadn't given up a fish yet this year. (it's a island) I got to the lake and on the 2nd cast got a big bite and after a big fight I got him in the boat unkooked him weighted him took a fast pic and put him back in the water. 2 casts later same area I get another big strike and after fighting him about 15 seconds he jumps and spits it (KVD 1.5) out he was at least as big as this one if not bigger..i wasn't as upset since I just got this one in. Got 6 fish total nothing else over 3.
  6. We went fishing tonight got 16. I threw a scatter rap about 1/2 the time it caught some fish but was kind of a pain i doubt i will use it much. It tended to get messed up a lot and was very sensitive to grass it seemed like. It did put some bass in the boat thought. For here I still like the Strike King KVD better.
  7. NE of indy about 20 miles
  8. Yea it did fight hard after a while my brother said man that pulls hard I said here and gave him the rod....he did bend the hooks on the kvd 1.5.
  9. We went fishing for a few hours on Mothers day and I was throwing a KVD 1.5 along some rocks and it stopped and this fish started ripping offline and running hard I thought here is the 10 pounder we have been after it does another hard run right out tearing off more line. He then comes up out of the water and we see it is a carp about 10 pounds....ahh yes so close..lol He fought like a train though was at least fun for a while until figured out it was a carp..On wen I was out with a friend in the same area and once again set the line and it runs and I thought it was a 10 pounder and it was a big catfish hooked in the tail...
  10. My cousin and he daughter went out to fish today to try and get her a nice one they got 10 bass and she got a nice 4.5 pound bass so she was very happy. That is all great but she lost one that was a lot bigger (her dad is a bass fisherman so he would know) then the 4.5 pound bass she got in. I'm supposed to be doing some stuff before we have to leave in 3 hours but you don't know how bad I want to go get in the boat and go get that big bass..lol hmmm what to do..
  11. No that is one we caught and threw back the dead one was a lot bigger then this one went back the next day he was about 3 1/2 feet from the shore up a small hill....
  12. Me and my brother cut out a few hours early from work today and it paid off. We fished for 3 hours and got 15 fish including a 6.1 ,4.25, 4.1, 3, 3 and several in the 2.5 range. All of the fish came on KVD 1.5 . What hurt the most was we were fishing a area that holds some big fish and we saw a hawk look at us setting on the bank he didn't want to move but he took off after a min or 2. I looked closer and saw a huge bass setting on the bank it was fresh blood was not dry..still had good color..and hadn't started swelling....this bass was a monster he would have passed 10 punds pretty easy was long and built like a football...would have loved to have got him and not the hawk.
  13. It has been slow this year (slow for here) but with the 70 degree days the bass are starting to get active. We fished yesterday got 5 no big ones but my brother lost a big one when it cut the line on a steel cable on a dock. I wasn't going to take the boat out today but a guy down the lake got a 5.9 pound bass and a 3 pounder so I had to go out. (his came on a worm). I fished for a hour and 1/2 I got 2 bass.(3 pounds and 2.5) 2 crappie and a catfish. (all on crankbait strike kind KVD and a Scatter Rap) last week I got one 4 and a friend down the end of the lake got one 6. I miss last year i had a home office and could fish 7 days a week and it was70 degrees in march...now we have a real office and spring took longer to get here... Alan
  14. We threw the bandits all the time last spring I lost a few 8 pound plus fish and changed to the strike king KVD I like the bigger hooks...Nice job..
  15. I hadn't used it yet I tried a number of different ways but when the fish came I would reel it some...stop...pump it speed it up and he hit it hard....he didn't take it in to deep I got the bait out with my fingers....this was the "orignial" style crawfish colored....this lake will be a good test last spring we got about 18 fish over 4.50 and 95% were caught on a strike king KVD so it will be interesting to see how it compares...there was nothing to crash it into I was just on the seawall throwing it out and he hit about 15 yards out....
  16. I got a few of the new rapala scatter raps to try out and until now the bass have all been down about 15 feet. My brother came over and I didn't have much time so we just fished from the dock. He threw a KVD 1.5 and I threw the rapala scatter rap and I will say it does run differnt. I would stop and go pump it I changed it up with no luck. Then I got a big bite and got a 5 pounder (indiana) he hit the scatter rap hard will be interesting to see how it does when we fish the good spots from the boat.
  17. We have a cabin near lake 62 (I think the only indiana lake on the list) have gone up since we were 9....the private lake we live on here though is a lot better...
  18. We went out for about 2 hours today and saw all the fish were 12 to 15 feet range. We saw some huge schools of baitfish down at that depth with some big fish close by. We put the boat over the top and started jigging and pulled in a nice 4 pounder. Air temp was 42 and water temp was 46 to 47. Alan
  19. Well to be fair I live on a large private lake that 4 or 5 people fish....we got a number of 5 fish bags over 20 last year...It also gives up a 10 or 2 each year...we boated a 10 and 9 last year also lost a handful in that range...have a gopro this year so should get some good footage..
  20. I'm from east central Indiana...going to try to catch a 5 fish bag over 30 and a indiana bass over 10.5 the goals for the year..

Was looking at a video a friend shot on his gopro cam this past summer it was a good day even though the battery in the nitro stopped working and my drag broke while I was fighting a nice bass..(number 2 on video)
  23. Does anyone know if you can rent boats on Newton Lake? would like to try it this winter my boats are in storage.
  24. I did 10.5 we were lucky enough to get a ton of fish 5 pounds and up. (indiana) We were also lucky enough to put some friends on some nice fish...
  25. We went out today in a effort to get a bass in Dec. The Nitro is in storage so all we had was the 14 ft Jon Boat. The wind was very strong so we couldn't get to the spots we wanted we fished a smaller (12 acre lake) that connects...we lost 2 and my partner got 1 nice bass 2 pounds he was VERY thick. The only thing we could get a bite on was a shad colored strike king red eye shad we fished for about a hour and 1/2 and the wind was just to strong for us to fight today. We are going to try again on Monday it is supposed to be 63 and put the Jon Boat up..(up means on bank out of the water so we can put it back in fast if we need to..lol)..we are going to try to throw lipless cranks around some islands and deep points and see what we can get.
