  1. Philpott is a great lake with lots of numbers of fish.I fished there this past summer and had a good time.Lots of crayfish in the lake so I would choose something that copied a craw.I remember all the craw hulls that the fish spit up in my livewell, literally dozens of two to three inch crayfish shells. The water is really clear there so use pretty light line 8 to 10 and drag a hair jig down some of those bluff walls, rocky points etc.
  2. If you tie your own flies then its pretty easy.I learned from how to videos on popular internet sites.A bucktail bass jig is tied the same way a striper jig is tied just on a smaller scale.I like greens and browns but black is very popular too. I also like a zoom skinny chunk or uncle josh split tail eel as a trailer. Hope this helps little.
  3. Hi Tyler,I live in Salem VA. Yeah I love to fish SML but it can be a tough lake to fish ,especially on weekends.I used to hunt in Franklin Co.
  4. Thanks Darren, I havent had much luck with them but havent gave them a fair shake either. Im from southeast VA originally, been living in the mountains for the past 15 years or so.I used to love to fish the Tidewater lakes and Suffolk lakes back then.
  5. sorry for the bad pic, cant get a bigger pic to upload
  6. I havent tied many of these, but I like this one.Hope to get out soon to try it.
  7. Its as easy or as difficult as you make it.Theres a real art in tacklecrafting but lucky for you theres vast information out there and heres as good a spot as any to learn. Dont get too ambitious and buy alot of things you wont need. If you buy premade jigheads they should be painted to keep cost down.Buy skirts in colors that are proven either to you or in your area you fish. Green pumpkin, watermelon and black are a good start. You will need some skirt collars and a skirt tool to finish up.It is very satisfying to catch bass on a creation of your own.Good luck and let me know how you do.
  8. Thank you Cadman, coming from you its a great compliment.
  9. Thanks DavePNW
  10. Got to make some baits this weekend, finally found a hook I like for this jig.
  11. Zoom C-tail worm with a home pour 1/16 oz shakey head. Light line tough bite killer.
  12. Ive got the same mold and like Cadman says all those trailers work but dont forget about Uncle josh #11 in green pumpkin or brown, black .Very good jig on pressured waters.
  13. I use this for the top, about 30 strands and the bottom gets the perch belly about10 strands you have pictured.
