  1. So I'm wondering what the impact this will have on the SK pro staff. Especially KVD who is strictly a Quantum user. Wonder how Lew's will have an effect on that sponsorship.
  2. Very true. It's all about the money. If someone offers enough money to buy something they will sell it off. No one business is immune to that.
  3. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/peak-rock-capital-portfolio-company-lews-acquires-strike-king-300549819.html The whole fishing industry is going to be one big company someday.
  4. Here's another solution from a company called Precision Sonar. https://precisionsonar.com/
  5. That's not what I meant. I meant why wouldn't they provide a means to get the wiring for a transducer down to the prop housing like they did with the Terrova. With the new imaging technologies out there people are going to need a way of mounting a separate transducer from the universal one. I understand they used that groove for the auto deploy.
  6. I just did a Google search for "mounting transducer on ulterra" and there was a bunch of threads over on B BC and other forums and a few Youtube videos. His problem isn't going to be mounting the transducer. His problem is running the wire down to the transducer since the Ulterra has motorized stowing and it seems there isn't a groove down the side of the shaft like the Terrova and the Powerdrive hasn to run the wire down.
  7. This place makes outrigger plates that allow you to mount the transducer separate from the trolling motor. Might be an option so you don't have to worry about the cable issue. They even have special mounts for the Garmin GT transducers. http://fishingspecialties.com/
  8. Why would Minn Kota do that? I guess they don't care that people would want to use an external transducer and they would need a way to route the cable to the TM prop housing?
  9. No fish finder can use down scan or side scan with the universal transducer in the trolling motor. It was designed to only use 2D sonar. This video is for a Terrova but it should be the same to run the transducer cable for the Ulterra:
  10. For $100 take a look at the Lew's TP1 Speed Stickss and the Duckett Ghost rods. Both are really good rods for $100.
  11. Another interesting acquisition.
  12. The first thing I do when I get a new pack of these is break the keeper off with a pair of pliers. I always superglue my bait to the head anyways so the keeper just gets in the way and fouls the bait.
  13. Get all the salt out of the Zinkerz or TRDs first by stretching them out before you put them on the hook. I've had one Zman head and half Zinker last me over 100 fish and several trips without it breaking doing this. The problem does lie within how Zman puts the bait keeper on the hook. In order for them to weld the keeper onto the hook the hook has to be bare. It seems they don't always powdercoat this weld and that tends to rust first since it is unprotected. Tape off the bend of the hook and the point and give it a blast of black Krylon and I bet it helps keep them from rusting.
  14. I've found Ish's Phat Frogs to walk the easiest for me.
  15. I think they acquired them just to get that many more smaller lakes contours. Ones that aren't available with their 17000 maps they include on their units. If I were Lowrance I wouldn't want to have a Navionics card in my finders just to spite Garmin again.
  16. This is pretty big news. I guess Lowrance and Humminbird won't be using Navionics cards anymore. LOL http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/garmin-acquires-navionics-1005836171
  17. I have a 2008 model of your boat and I've had it out in 20mph winds on a large reservoir where the wind was blowing the same direction as the lake and it was no fun. Going with the waves was downright dangerous as it was pretty much jumping the waves at anything much over a no wake speed. If you have a passenger they better be wearing wet weather gear or they will be wet and miserable. Into the wind isn't as bad since you are more or less hitting the waves head on and cutting through them but it will pound your body to a pulp. I wouldn't have gone out in those conditions other than I knew if I got out of the main body of the lake the arms would be calm enough to fish. Being that it's aluminum doesn't really matter either though. I've been out in a 21' Ranger z521 before in 18-20mph winds on a wide open lake and that wasn't fun either. Just get to know your limits with the boat. If it were me, I wouldn't be out on a lake in 30mph winds in a Tracker.
  18. I have one, maybe fished it twice. It's a really really big bait. Too big in fact. If it was about half the size it would be a better producer for me. It's a workout lobbing that thing. And as I type that i see they are making a 4" version soon.
  19. This pond is in Columbia, MO. We have caught several more since then that have similar markings.
  20. It's not a bass but my wife caught this strangely colored green sunfish last summer. We think it has something to do with the weed treatments that the pond has undergone.
  21. I might try to do something like this. It looks like it wouldn't raise me up much but it would allow the water that does come in get back out and make it so I'm not sitting in it when it is in there. Right now I have my scuppers plugged with foam golf balls and it works to keep the water from coming up the scuppers but when it does get in there it can't get out unless I pull the golf balls out to let it drain.
  22. I think I may have to do this with my Ocean Kayak Trident. The stock seat really doesn't bother my comfort-wise but I do get tired of getting a wet butt all the time.
  23. I can tell you that with my 2008 Tracker 175 TXW with 60hp Merc, after I upgraded to a 24v TM, with a full live well, a full tank of gas, and a passenger with all his fishing equipment it takes a good bit before it planes out. Once it gets on plane I can still run about 36mph on the GPS which is the same as when the tank is half full, the livewell is empty, and I"m by myself. Probably takes a good 100' or more to get up on plane. I usually don't run with a full tank of gas though or a full livewell.
  24. Loon is probably the only one that makes a big difference in color since it's black and all the other colors are a silver or white color. I have used monkey butt at the same time as my fishing partner has been using loon though on a stained lake and we were both catching fish. In clearer water the dark vs. white may make more of a difference with the WP.
