  1. I haven't personally heard of any but I'm sure there are stories out there of them not going off. I'm a good swimmer and hopefully if I do ever need it I'll be in a state of mind to be able to pull the cord if it doesn't automatically go off. I have heard of them going off by themselves though. My buddy had his go off while being completely dry in his kayak and my uncle had one go off when we were fishing last summer in the blazing hot weather. Then you have to worry about keeping a recharge kit onboard so you can reset them. I usually keep a regular vest on my boat too so if I ever have to drain the vein I can take a dip with that vest and not have to inflate one of my inflatables.
  2. I use regular Tuf Line Supercast 30lb on my top water bait caster just so I can drag horny toads through slop easily and so there isn't any give in the line to my other top water baits. It's also coated so it doesn't tangle in my top water treble hooks. When that done I will string up a spool of 40lb Power Pro I have waiting. I also use the Tuf Line because I got it for free with a promotion they had a couple years ago. I use Power Pro Super Slick 8 on my spinning rod with a hybrid leader. Just started using that this past year and it seems to be really manageable on spinning tackle although it's lost some of its color and isn't as light green as it was when I got it.
  3. Not a bass, caught a lot of little dinks out of my in-law's pond this weekend too, but my greatest catch caught these cats this weekend all by herself.
  4. I use a Stohlquist Fisherman when I'm in my kayak and it's a pretty comfortable vest with lots of adjustments.
  5. While I use inflatables because they are light and take up less room than traditional PFDs as said above you never know if they are good to go when you need them to be. There isn't a real good way of testing to see if they will open if you go over board. I guess you just have to trust them to work. I use ones from Bass Pro and also have some back ups I bought at West Marine for about $50 on sale.
  6. I have Power Pro Super Slick 8 on my spinning rod and Tuf-Line Supercast on my topwater rod and both are great braided lines.
  7. I was just going to post up the videos that Glenn put up but he beat me to it. Lately I've been using the hooks he showed that have the wire weed guard on them and they work well. I bought them on ebay and I think the hooks could be a little better on the ones I bought as sometimes they throw the hook but I tried them with a different rod that has a little more backbone and have had a little better catch rate. I've tried the stupid rig to keep them weedless and have bought some stupid jig hooks from Blue Rock tackle to try but haven't used them yet. As for size, I typically don't like going much over 1/4oz or 3/8oz for weight, and I usually use 4"-4.5" tubes and a 3/0 or 4/0 hook is a great size for those size of tubes. Any bigger of a hook and it's running out the back of the tube and there's nothing to run the hook through. Like said above a tube jig hook with an EWG hook doesn't rig great so I typically use a standard bend hook.
  8. You are bank fishing a park pond not the Bass Master Classic. It's not that serious. Go find a bathroom.
  9. They make a bar that you can install onto the roof rack that swings out and lets you put the front of the kayak up to rest on while you pick up the rear to put on the rack.
  10. I just started using JJ's Magic which is garlic. Haven't really been out enough to see if it helps.
  11. I disagree with all of this. Especially the guide part. I have a Lew's TP-1 spinning rod and it has microguides and a microwave guide and it casts just fine so guide size shouldn't matter at all.
  12. Ahh, never had that happen. I actually rarely have the braided line get tangled in the hooks for whatever reason.
  13. That's why I use a snap for most of my presentations. Easy to change baits and the line doesn't get in the split ring. Plus gives really good action to topwater WTD type baits.
  14. Yikes. Worst first day ever for me. I have 571 points. My best pick is Williamson in Bucket E in 63rd place. Absolutely dreadful.
  15. That's the same line I use on my topwater rod. I got that line through a promo they ran a couple years ago where they sent a free spool if I paid for shipping costs. It's a great line although the coating tends to come off sometimes. I just cut that out and retie.
  16. Yeah and that's accurate as this is a Catch Weigh Release tourney. That's a nice fish! Basstrak is not going to be "Fake News" this tournament.
  17. Straight braid for all my top water baits all the time when I'm in the boat.
  18. The other P-Line products are great. I love CX Premium and it's my go to line now.
  19. I can't count the number of times it's broken on my buddy when he's used it. Whether it be on the cast, while fighting a fish, on a snag. He's had nothing but trouble with it. He's switched to YoZuri and hasn't had any issues.
  20. I posted this a while back where I saw Chris Lane let one of his rods go and it fell in the water on MLF and it floated. Didn't know what kind it was though. Here's the video on Youtube:
  21. I've caught smallies that were so PO'ed a the bait I threw at them they were almost black in color. Then after getting them up out of the water and they settle down a bit they turn back to their brown color. i've caught hybrid meanmouth smallie/spot or smallie/largemouth varieties before but usually they will have a distinct lateral line on them as well as being a greenish brown rather than brown like a typical smallie, but that one the OP has is all smallie.
  22. There are other brands of that cooler out there that are much cheaper than Yeti. Look at RTIC, Ozark Trails, and a few others.
  23. This is what I do. I rarely cover my mouth also and I wear SPF lip balm to prevent my lips from getting sun burned. I usually wear mine like this:
  24. Went out river fishing in my kayak today and caught this 18” beauty!
  25. Top 12 is the cut for tomorrow actually. Which stinks because I had Ott and he missed the cut by one freakin ounce!
