  1. It's illegal in Missouri to own any of the native game fish below in an aquarium without a permit: Game fish: bass – black bass (all), Ozark, rock, shadow, striped (all); pikes including muskellunge, tiger muskie, northern pike, chain and grass pickerels; catfish (Ictalurus) except bullheads; warmouth; salmon, char and trout; paddlefish; crappie; pikeperches (including walleye, sauger); shovelnose sturgeon
  2. Check out the Bamabass channel on Youtube. He's caught and raised several LMB in aquariums and has even built a water feature in his backyard where several of them reside now. He has lots of tips on how he's raised them from fingerlings. Usually he feeds them baby guppies when they are that small though.
  3. I snagged a grass carp not quite that big a couple weeks ago at my in-laws pond using a Red Eye Shad. Hooked it in the meaty part of the tail. Fought it for about 15 minutes as every time it got close to the dock it would make a bee-line back to the middle of the pond stripping out drag. Finally got it tired enough for my wife to take a swiped at it with the net and she missed and hit my lure instead, dislodging it causing the fish to get off. I have a video of the whole thing though. (79) Snagged grass carp not landed - YouTube
  4. Is the body hollow like their other frogs? Or is it all the elastomer material and it's solid like the Zoom Frog? If it's the latter I'm not sure the material will get out of the way to ensure positive hook sets. If it is hollow though, I may have to pick a few of these up if they are going to be more durable than other buzz toads.
  5. I'd be taking tons of pictures of all the structure that is being exposed for when the water is back to normal.
  6. I've switched from Zoom Super Flukes to Big Bite Baits Jerk Minnows because they have a shimmy when they fall that looks really good. I usually use a 4/0 or 5/0 offset hook and fish them weightless. Jerk jerk pause jerk jerk jerk pause jerk pause...etc...If you want it deeper just let it sink a little first. A fish will come up from 7-12' though to eat a struggling baitfish a soft jerkbait is mimicking.
  7. In the state that fish is in I'll also say right around 4lbs. Has a huge head and small body though and if it was a different time of year it would be pushing 5lbs maybe. For reference I caught a 3.91lb bass over 4th of July weekend that was 20.5" long. Thought it would go an easy 4 1/2 lbs but it also had big head/little body going on, which is not typical of the pond I caught it out of. Usually the fish are as fat as can be due to the massive amount of forage in it.
  8. Yep, it means you can launch from any boat ramp on the lake and then trailer your fish to the weigh-in.
  9. Check out the Savage Gear Armor Tube Worms. They are a stick worm with a nylon mesh middle section you put the hook through and helps the worm stay on the line. Savage Gear Armor Tube Worm - Tackle Warehouse
  10. All you have to do is sit at a boat launch on any of our lakes and you can have a hay day of things to report back to this thread. One of my favorites is to see people put their camp chairs in the middle of one of the lanes of a boat launch while they swim or fish, and then they complain when you ask them to move when I'm trying to back my boat in. Like it's a concrete beach for them or something.
  11. I've always thought Texas rigged (or stupid rigged) tubes came through cover pretty well myself. I usually use tube jig heads or bullet weights though, so IDK about using them weightless.
  12. My father in law catches bass on his jug lines he puts out for turtles with chunks of beef on a big octopus hook. Bass will pretty much eat anything.
  13. Are you using short shank wide gap hooks to upgrade to such as the Mustad KVD Triple Grip 2x Short? If not they are typically the same weight as the next size down standard treble hook (unless they are really small gauge wire hooks to begin with)
  14. Duolock snap with a palomar knot here for walking baits. Some of my walking baits use a split ring and some don't so even tying direct to some would still give the same action the snap gives.
  15. I've tried the VMC ones with the wire to make it weedless and I found the same thing. That and the wire would get all bent out of shape and I could never get it back the way it needed to be to be weedless again. The thing I like about the Fusion19 hooks is they use a piece of fluorocarbon to make them weedless and it gets out of the way pretty easily when a fish bites but doesn't when pulling it over cover.
  16. It's funny you say everything else is just a knockoff when those kind of prop baits have been used for musky and pike fishing for many many years. For me it depends on the body of water. Ponds = Whopper Plopper Streams = Walking baits Plastic toads also work well for me on both
  17. You aren't going to find a kayak that is 8' long that you can can stand in and is stable enough to fish out of.
  18. Yep. Stronger than the senko usually. Just have to be mindful they can cut the worm in half sometimes. But I've caught fish with the worm cut part way through and I just slide the rubber band up the worm a bit to a new section where it's not cut.
  19. You should try these instead of O-rings, cheaper and you only need one doubled up to make the "x". Amazon.com : Goody Ouchless Latex Elastics 500CT (Multicolor) : Beauty
  20. I like the Power Pro SuperSlick8 on my spinning rods. It's really soft and manageable for spinning reels. I don't use leaders though so no suggestions on that.
  21. When I'm fishing places I don't need to be weedless I use Owner Mosquito hooks size 1 or 1/0. If I'm fishing around a lot of wood or other snaggy things I use Berkley Fusion19 weedless wide gap hooks in the same sizes.
  22. I'm also going to have to go with my grandfather. He was always fishing. He had a heart attack when he was 43 unfortunately, which caused him to not be able to work full time for the rest of his life, but that in turn let him fish. And did he fish. He would be known to go out and catch anywhere between 200-300 crappie (back when there wasn't limits) and clean and fillet them all in a day, and then go out to another lake and do it again the next day. He would use all that fish meat to help support local church's fish fries. He was a very friendly man also, and just about every pond within 50 miles of his house he knew the owner of, and we fished just about every one of them as I was growing up. There wasn't anything flashy about his fishing style. Most of the time he just used minnows or bucktail jigs on a 9' flyrod with an automatic fly reel on it. He taught me a lot about what I know about fishing.
  23. Hammocks: overrated, can get trapped in those dang things. Sweet Tea: overrated, diabetus in a glass. Plain unsweetened tea is amazing by itself. Buffalo Chicken Pizza: Underrated Hockey:
  24. That's strange. I've caught hundreds of fish on the Ned rig and I don't think any have ever been deep hooked. Most are in the top or corner of the mouth. I really don't dead stick it much though and always keep contact of the rig when I fish it. As for the max scent stuff, never used it, probably never will, but I'm not sure why they would be swallowing it over any other scented bait as long as you are paying attention and maintaining contact with the bait.
  25. Manual transmission: Overrated. I used to only want one when I was younger and didn't have to deal with rushhour traffic. Automatic all the way now. Plus newer high tech automatics are way faster than manual shifting for performance. Coffee:
