Rooftop kayak carrying questions
I had an Inno rack with square bars and it howled driving on the highway also. I got a faring like I talked about above and it made it a lot more quiet. Still pretty noisy with the kayak up there but quieting things down without anything on top.

Switching baits in Kayak.. Tie on or Clips
I use cheap duolock snaps from e-bay I buy in like lots of 500. Like I said above, I've only straightened they out where they've failed twice.

Proper Way to weigh a bass?
HAH! I'm sure no one realized this was from 2006. For my input, I used to just put the hook on my fish scale through the gill slit closest to the bottom of their mouth but I switched scales to one of the cheap e-bay luggage scales and the hook is much smaller so now I use my fish grips that have a hole in the handle to hook the scale onto. The only issue with this is I have to TARE the scale with the fish grips on it first before weighing the fish or the weight will be a little off due to the weight of the grips.

Rooftop kayak carrying questions
If you are worried about the air flow most roof rack manufacturers make front fairings to help quiet the roof bars that would keep the air from flowing across the top of your car.

Best catch on your cheapest combo?
Caught a 5lb flathead on a Barbie pole last summer.

Switching baits in Kayak.. Tie on or Clips
I've only ever had 2 duo lock snaps fail on me in my 40+ years of fishing. I use snaps for pretty much all my presentations. So much easier to change baits than having to retie every time.

MLF St. Lawrence River Massena, NY Jun 25 - 30, 2021
BASS has been up there the past few times in late August (2018 and 2019) and it took 95lb and 87lb to win each year. Seems pretty good to me after the spawn.

From what I've seen of any bass tournament on the St. Lawrence River the past several years since the goby invasion it's like catching fish in a barrel regardless if it's spawning season or not. The fishery has big fish stacked in it and it doesn't look like they are hard to catch.

I guess this is easier than putting on a pair of goggles with a snorkel and sticking your head over the side of the boat into the water. I don't have an issue with it if they allow super megaview panoptix finders. They do the same thing with those on dirty lakes. At lease with MLF they are releasing the fish right back where they caught them so they can go back to their beds instead of hauling them all over the lake.

Finally making the transition to lures. Any suggestions for a good resource for learning how to use all of the essential smallmouth baits?
Heck yeah. Smallmouth love buzz toads. The 4 1/2lb smallie in my avatar picture was caught on a buzz toad.

For top water those are pretty easy. Cast and retrieve. They aren’t good around cover or weeds though because of the treble hooks though. For that sort of stuff I would recommend a Zoom Horny Toad on an EWG hook.

Lure same as a frog but better at hooking the fish?
I use horny toads because A) I have trouble getting a hollow frog to walk usually and B ) I have a hard time hooking up with fish and keeping them hooked. With horny toads if they have the bait the fish usually end up in my hand.

Here's a good video on why it's hard to hook up with fish using hollow bodied frogs: (40) Topwater frog fishing: the science of setting the hook - YouTube

Cocktail drinkers...
I like a good Rum and Coke with a twist of lime. Margaritas with Mexican food too. Other than that, a good neat bourbon has been my go to.

Joining two light lines
Looking at the specs off Zebco's website it looks like it comes with 4lb mono, so you don't even have to worry about what you are wanting to do. Spincast Reel | 33 Micro Gold Triggerspin Reel | zebco.com

Joining two light lines
I agree. 6lb test on a rod like that is going to work great for probably 95% of the fish you will be fishing for with it.

What's your favorite tube and weight
I exclusively use Bass Pro 4.5" Magnum flipping tubes with either a 1/4 or 3/8oz weight. Great tubes and get better the more they are used.

life vests
I wear my kayak PFD 100% of the time no matter how hot it is, how deep the water is, or what body of water I'm fishing. For one, it's a good lesson for my daughters to see their dad out there with a PFD on. Two, you just never know what is going to happen. A motor boater doesn't see you and hits you, you hit a rock and that rock hits your head when you flip, etc. Dead is dead and a PFD can help prevent that. I wear a Stolquist Fisherman kayak PFD. Has a high back pad so it doesn't interfere with the kayak seat. Has lots of pockets and compartments to keep things like a whistle (which reminds me, I took my whistle off and it's on my boat) and my phone in a waterproof case. I don't recommend a self inflating PFD for a kayak as it's practically useless if it goes off accidently and you don't have a reset kit with you.

4 senkos in a row stolen off my wacky rig, 6 total, WTH!!!
Walmart or Amazon or Target. Do a google search for Goody hair rubber bands. They come in packs of like 250 of various sizes. The small ones work if you use 2, but the medium and large you can double them to form an X and I hook the hook through the worm under the x so the hook is perpendicular to the worm. I find hook up rates are a little better with it like that, although you do lose some weedlessness. In heavy cover I use a Berkley Fusion19 weedless wacky hook in those instances.

I had the exact opposite effect. When I tried shrink wrap on my senkos I had the same experience the OP is having where the fish would bite and I'd set the hook and the senko would be gone and I'll I'd have is a hook with my shrink wrap left and no fish. I went back to my Goodie hair bands doubled over into an X shape and never looked back. I can get 6-10 fish on one senko usually before the hair band cuts the worm in half.

Has anyone found they are happy with non high end rods and reels
Most of my combos consist of a $60-100 reel and a $50-100 rod. My most expensive set up is a Lews Tournament Pro Speed Spool I got on sale for $169 and a Carbonlite II rod I got on sale for $99. It's nice, but my lower end stuff is good too and helps me catch the fish just as well. I've never understood the need for $300-400 reels and $300-500 rods.

What’s the most recent lure(s) you have adopted?
I was looking through my tackle box for something I hadn't ever used before and found a Boyd Duckett BD Shad I had gotten in a mystery box a few years ago. I'd never really thrown it and the pond I was in has a lot of small baitfish about the size the lure is. First cast I caught a fish. I used it the rest of the weekend and caught several others. The action of the jointed hard swimbaits is just amazing and is something I'll be using more and more.

Best state for river/creek smallies?
Can't leave out Missouri. Ozark streams have some world class smallmouth bass fishing. The only problem with Missouri is that's just it, smallmouth are pretty much limited to the southern part of Missouri south of the Missouri River. But just about every stream south of the Missouri have abundance of smallmouth bass in them.

Does anyone else feel like they catch more quantity in current but more quality off of rock banks in slower moving water?
I didn't mean "Big River" fish I meant big fish in rivers. Around here even little creeks are called rivers where they start. We don't catch many bass in the parts of the BIG rivers around here. All of the good rivers are like the ones you fish.
