Thank you! Good old GYCB #297 WR. Threw right in front of some very heavy cover. Didn’t even feel it but saw my line moving.

Grats! Did you get a length? I'd guess around 4lb. Once it starts feeding up a little more it could push 5.

I'd guess 4lbs. About the same as my pb!

Your reel has line that can be cut to length, a 2nd to girth and guessing get a lot easier. Length X Length X girth divide by 1200 = lbs.

Length with mouth closed laid flat tip of jaw to end of tail, girth around widest area dorsal fin down. 

If you don’t know the girth use 75% of the length for average body bass.

Photos make it difficult to guesstimate needed dimensions.

Thanks Tom, wise advice. Next time if in a jam I will do this. One thing I learned today is to never fish without a scale or at least my measuring tape in my pocket. After getting skunked the last two weeks I wasn’t expecting this. But as they say, you never know! 

First instinct was 4-5 lbs.  Camera angles make a lot of difference. 

In the state that fish is in I'll also say right around 4lbs.  Has a huge head and small body though and if it was a different time of year it would be pushing 5lbs maybe.

For reference I caught a 3.91lb bass over 4th of July weekend that was 20.5" long.  Thought it would go an easy 4 1/2 lbs but it also had big head/little body going on, which is not typical of the pond I caught it out of.  Usually the fish are as fat as can be due to the massive amount of forage in it.

Tough to see the girth in the pics, I would guess about 4lbs.  Its got a big head, in March that fish might 5 or close to it.  Either way nice fish.

The next lesson you will learn is that when you take a measuring tape and a scale you will never catch a big one (Murphy’s Law of measurement)

Congratulations on your new personal best bass. The bass you caught appears to be 3-4 pounds.

I would guess 4.25lbs from that picture but it'll be well over 5 if it fills out it's frame.

4.2 is my guess. At least close enough to being a 4 pounder.   Looks good !
