  1. We had them 2 years ago here in Missouri. It made for some awesome fun with slow top water baits like jitter bugs and poppers. There were so many flying in the air sometimes it looked like smoke filling the sky. Pretty amazing sight really. I remember looking at one of the trees in the yard and not seeing any bark because every inch of that tree had a cicada on it.
  2. Bass fishermen along the east coast, get ready for some top water action from Mid-April to early May. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/cicadas-coming-151907579.html Bass love these things when they land on the water. Arbogast actually makes a cicada colored jitterbug. We had them emerge 2 summers ago here in Missouri and it was fun with top water fishing when they were around. Sure was noisy though and it kind of sucks when they fly into your clothing and hair.
  3. Dang, these things are really a hole in the water you throw your money into. Might have to do the outdoor storage facility thing and just pull it to the house and put it in the driveway to charge the night before fishing.
  4. I thought that might be it, wasn't sure though. Seems to work a lot better than the gripper style scale they used last season.
  5. I know they are using a different scale than they were in the last season of MLF (Berkley 35lb precision digital scale) but does anyone know what those grippers are they are attaching to the bottom of the scale to hold the fish by the mouth with? I looked on Berkley's website but didn't see anything that looked like what they were using...
  6. I've always found smallies hanging out at the end of pools right before the riffles start. Last year with our low water it was a little different when we found fish in the middle of riffles along the edges of swifter water. But typically, unless there's some sort of cover in a pool, I find them at the end of them before the riffle.
  7. +1 Great rod that is super light. And looks cool with he white paint to boot.
  8. For those storing at a facility inside a storage unit, what kinds of monthly prices are you paying?
  9. Where does everyone store their boat if you can't store it outside your house (e.g. in the yard or driveway). Do you put it in the garage? Do you use some sort of storage facility? If you use a storage facility do you rent a storage "locker" to put it in or do just keep it at their facility outside? If outside do you remove the electronics and trolling motor so they don't get stolen? Also, how do you charge your batteries if stored at one of these storage facilites? Do you keep it at a family member's house? Anywhere else? Hopefully I'll have a boat in the next few years and these are things that have been on my mind lately.
  10. Happened to me last weekend too. I started fishing with a jig and caught two shorts real quick when she came down to the pond and needed me to tie a swivel on for her. She the proceeded to catch two shorts and one keeper in about 20 minutes on a rooster tail. I did manage to hook a 3-4lber later that I wasn't able to get to the bank, so it didn't count. Oh well, can't win them all.
  11. The only thing that keeps Lake of the Ozarks from being a better fishery than it is, is all the hoopla stupid drunken nonsense that happens every summer weekend there. Take away the 50' cigar boats and ocean yachts and its a top notch bass lake.
  12. I bet we see the prison all fixed up with crops in the yard and all that next season with the prison acting as a regular "town". They have to be able to feed all those people somehow.
  13. Yep. That's the one I use. Works great. I bought the one that comes with a charger.
  14. Looks nice but i really covet the dry storage in my ocean kayak. It's nice to not have to put my tent into a dry bag if it happens to be raining on an overnighter.
  15. I have caught a majority of my fish in that pond on a white senko. And I guess that imitates a dying fish of some sort. It's just that I threw the a-rig and white and shad colored stick baits in it yesterday for the first time and I guess I expected them to really go after them but got absolutely no bites at all.
  16. So I've been wondering this. By nature will a bass it any bait that is presented to them even if that bait is something that is not a naturally occurring forage in the lake they are in? My in-laws have a pond on their property that I know only has LMB, channel cats, and bluegill in it and that has been confirmed by the DNR through shocking. I have caught bass on lures mimicking worms, crayfish and bluegill. So therein lies the question, will these fish also hit something that looks like shad such as the a-rig or a jerk bait even though there are no shad or baitfish like that in the pond?
  17. Wlure.com has some for $3 but only with chartreuse heads. The white ones are sold out.
  18. It's a shame there's not one up here in St. Louis.
  19. You screw the front of the bait onto the spring and then rig the hook weedless into the bait.
  20. The review I saw on it the other day said it was one of the worst games ever made. http://games.yahoo.com/blogs/plugged-in/walking-dead-game-shouldn-t-buy-184355588.html
  21. Yep...Looks llike a Big Bites Bio Bait Kreit Kreature http://www.***.com/Big_Bite_Baits_Bio_Bait_Jeff_Kriet_-_Kriet_Kreature/descpage-BBBBBKK.html
  22. That's completely understandable using the same pound test in braid as you do on your leader. It's the 50-80lb braid with a 15lb leader that I don't understand. Unless it's for what you said, to save your braid when you get snagged. But then again, they are using the 50-80lb braid so when they do have to pull a hog out of cover it doesn't break...But the leader might if a lighter pound test is being used. It's a catch 22 I guess...
  23. This time last year we had already been out in our kayaks twice, wearing shorts none the less. We got 9" at our house here in St. Louis yesterday. I am so ready for nice weather. Screw you Mr. Groundhog!!!
  24. To me, unless you are fishing in extremely clear water or are making a finesse presentation there's no need for a leader on braid. If bass are smashing the heck out of Alabama rigs with their thick metal wires attached to the baits they will bite a bait that is attached to braid. Also, to me, putting a leader on your braid just creates a weak point in your line. Most guys use 50lb braid with a 15-17lb fluoro leader. What's the point of having 50lb braid if the leader is going to break before the braid will. Also one of the reasons why someone uses braid is for sensitivity and I'm sure adding a leader diminishes some of that sensitivity the braid gives you.
  25. Not that Stren mono is bad or anything but when that gives up, get yourself some 8lb YoZuri hybrid line to put in there. It's a really great fishing line.
