  1. Looks like Power Pole is coming out with a small, portable pole anchor system for use in small craft, including kayaks! http://www.power-pole.com/jlmarine/power-pole/micro.aspx
  2. Looks like it. The Product name on the card behind it says XXXXDROP, so I'm assuming so.
  3. Looks like it's for ice fishing?
  4. Saw this on an iCast product showcase. Whut?
  5. I think it's junk for as expensive as it is. Does it cast far? Yes, it casts like nothing else. Does it break easy? Absolutely. I had more break offs with that stuff than I have ever had using any other line. And it's not like you are fighting a fish and it all of a sudden breaks. It just snaps on the initial hookset. I probably lost $50 worth of lures and baits before I un-spooled it and threw it in the trash.
  6. I know some people that have bought some, and they work, but the hooks are pretty shoddy. They amount you save on buying the lures you would put back into them swapping the hooks for better ones. But then again, a lot of bigger name lure companies (cough SK) don't use that great of hooks either. Their umbrella rigs turn out to be a pretty good deal though.
  7. I just recently started fishing with wacky rigged 5" stick worms with great success. What hooks does every one use for wacky rigs? I know they make hooks specifically for wacky rigs, but is that what everyone uses, or something else? I've been using a size 1 mosquito hook for the time being. Seems to work ok, although they are getting hooked deeper than I would like, and it seems they get hooked in the roof of the mouth a lot, and is probably why I lose a few after they are hooked. Also, any hints on how to make the stick worm last longer? I am using o-rings already and I'm lucky to get about 3 fish out of them before they are either thrown while fighting a fish, or they are torn almost completely in half making them unusable.
  8. I just tried out a Phat Frog the other day and it walks much easier than my BPS frogs and my Pad Crasher. And like said above, the hooks are in a different chamber than the body of the frog so it doesn't fill up with water at all...
  9. Straight braid. Not planning on using a leader with this setup. It'll still catch fish.
  10. So I took advantage of the Tuf-Line Supercast free (plus shipping) offer they had and got some 20lb braid from them. I put it on a new set up I bought primarily as a jig/topwater/creature bait rod. It's a BPS Bionic Plus 7:1 reel on a 7' MH Fast Bionic rod. First impressions of the braid is that it's way more sensitive than I ever had with mono or hybrid lines. I could feel every stick and branch I dragged my jig over. Pretty cool stuff. The other thing I really liked is when I got a backlash it was a lot easier to clear and that's worth having braid on the reel alone. It also cast really smooth, just like mono. Unfortunately, the fish weren't interested in my jig. They were only biting on wacky worms this morning and that was on my other rod with Yo-Zuri on it.
  11. Like WBD said, it's all false. http://wd40.com/about-us/myths-legends-fun-facts/ It is good for keeping water out of your distributor on your engine though since that's what WD40 stands for, Water Displacement-Formula 40.
  12. For kayaking, I used to wear a pair of $5 Walmart neoprene water shoes, but they only lasted about half a season before the sole started separating from the upper, and they really weren't so good on keeping out the sand and gravel. Just recently I bought a pair of Teva Churns and I really like them other than the fact I should have bought a half size up. Seems they run a little small. Still, they do a pretty good job on keeping the pea gravel out, sand not so much but I just have to shake my foot in the water and the sand clears out pretty easily. Really comfy while walking around too and they dry pretty quickly in the sun once they are wet. I would have had a pair of Zekos as I went to a boat/fishing show last year and they had then 75% off, but they don't sell half sizes and I needed a 9 1/2. 9's were too small, and 10's were too big.
  13. The guy had where he was camping at in an album on his Facebook page with the name of the stream. There's a rope swing behind him in the picture, so it would be pretty easy to find exactly where he was at on this particular stream. As for being able to spear them so easily without spooking them, these streams are floated heavily by the party crowd, so the fish are fairly used to having hundreds of canoes, kayaks, and rafts floating over their heads. Another thing is those sling spears like he was using allow you to not have to be very close to use them with accuracy. Good news though. The guy that made the call to the MDC got three call backs today. Seems they aren't real happy seeing one of their tagged smallmouths on the end of a spear.
  14. I also have a pair of the Columbia fishing pants to fish out of my kayak in. They are light weight, dry fast, have 50 UPF sun protection, and the bottoms are convertible and zip off to make them into shorts when I'm done fishing. I wear one of their long sleeve shirts too. I burn pretty easily and I really hate reapplying sunscreen when I'm fishing so wearing this stuff really helps out.
  15. It's probably a 15-16" fish at least. And the sad thing is, stream smallies take about 6-7 years to grow to that size. Then this dingle head takes him illegally...
  16. Show me the HAVOC!
  17. Wouldn't a standard backpack work? You can find JanSport or Eastpak backpacks for much less than $50 that will hold 4 or so large tackle trays and a few more smaller ones.
  18. He took down the one of him with the fish on the spear shortly after he posted it so I guess he knows it was something he shouldn't be doing. A guy from the forum called MO Dept of Conservation and they said there just isn't enough evidence to do anything about it. I think there is. For one, we have the guy's name and even an address and phone number that he posted on one of his facebook posts (I know, not a real smart guy). I'm sure this isn't the first time he's done this and probably has some holy fish in his freezer. Secondly, that smallie he stuck has a conservation tag on it. When someone catches one of the tagged fish it has a reward amount of either $25 or $75 on it. You are supposed to remove the tag, release the fish, and send the tag in with where and when you caught it (it's a smallmouth preservation project that has been ongoing to track the movements of smallmouth in selected MO streams) So this guy, if he was smart enough to know what the tag was, got some money out of this poaching too. The thing is he has to send this tag in to get his money, and hopefully his name is on the MDC's radar now and will go after him. I doubt it though. Facebook really opens some eyes though. I found out looking at this guy's friends list that a bunch of underclassmen that I went to high school with are friends with him, and even my wife is a mutual friend with two of his friends. Weird eh?
  19. So I'm on our local fishing forums today and a guy posts up some pictures he found on a random guy's Facebook site. He's got a sling spear with a 15"+ smallie dangling from the end of it, and then another picture of a dozen or so fish total that all have spear holes in the side of them. In Missouri it's only legal to spear fish in impounded waters and only for rough, non-game fish. He had at least 8 black bass on the table (which is also illegal if he was the only one "fishing" it since the black bass limit is 6 in Missouri). The stream is was poaching on is an awesomely clear Ozark stream that is one of the better smallmouth streams in Missouri because it's too small for jet boats, but large enough to float canoes and kayaks on (also a big party stream unfortunately) It really steams me to see illegal fishing activity like this. People on the local forum are going to report him to conservation and hopefully he's fined/jailed/loses license forever/etc. Here are the pictures (someone blurred his face to keep his anonymity)
  20. Try swapping out to a weedless prop also.
  21. I have always used leaders no matter what kind of fly fishing I'm doing. When attaching leaders to my fly line I've used the braided fly line loops for years and never had a problem. http://www.basspro.com/Braided-Fly-Fishing-Line-to-Leader-Loop-Connectors/product/75087/
  22. Great video of how to make the Jika Rig and how the action compares to a T-rigged bait.
  23. I have found that I can't make my frogs walk with it. I have a new setup with braid to try walking frogs with but I can't get them to go back and forth with hybrid. It works fine for me with WTD type hard baits and poppers though.
  24. I'd have to say these would be mine in order: 1. Edwin Evers 2. Shaw Grigsby 3. Alton Jones 4. KVD Just so much to learn from those guys. I would just like to fish with Bill Dance. Not so much to learn stuff from him but to be able to fish in his private lake and catch a bunch of the hogs that live in it!
