Berkley Nanofil Line?

Recommended Posts

I love it for things like wacky rigs, swimming grubs, and small cranks. It's terrible for contact baits if there's any kind of wind because it blows a huge bow in the line. It's designed for spinning reels so keep that in mind. It casts way further than any line I've ever fished if you need long distance casts.

I think it's junk for as expensive as it is.  Does it cast far?  Yes, it casts like nothing else.  Does it break easy? Absolutely.  I had more break offs with that stuff than I have ever had using any other line.  And it's not like you are fighting a fish and it all of a sudden breaks.  It just snaps on the initial hookset.  I probably lost $50 worth of lures and baits before I un-spooled it and threw it in the trash.

I could not agree more.  I want to LOVE this line ... I really do.  I bought it when it first came out and had the same experience as described above.  Once they came out with the green colored line I decided to try it again and again the same issue.  No more nanofil for me!

I always used a leader and never had a problem with it.  I loved the casting ability and sensitivity.  Seriously, based on what people say about it I think I must have gotten luck.  Never had one break off on the entire spool of 8lb line.

I've been fishing 8lb, 10lb and 12lb NanoFil on my spinning tackle since it was released (2+ years?). Still using it, still liking it. Most sensitive line I've ever used... including fused fireline.

I recently tried the line out, an it does cast extremly far, and did experience a few line breaks on the hook set. But Ive found that if you take a couple feet off before every trip, you generaly wont have that problem with the line breaking. I used to have to the same thing back in the day with Spider Fusion. You could always tell the weak parts by the color.. once it turned white I knew to strip off that section of line. With the nano kinda the same thing.. only I have to guess at where it needs to be stripped to. I've also tried it with a flouro leader on it.. an the results for actualy catching fish were 5 fish with a leader to 1 fish with no leader. To me that seems pointless. Why spend that kinda money on a "super line" only to have to put a weaker flouro leader on it to catch more fish? I like the line.. an will continue to use it as long as it last, but I wont be getting anymore of it. Im a die hard Berkley line user.. but that nano.. isnt worth it.

Love the line, I've been using it since March, even though it's not my main rig, I fish with it every weekend. I use 14lb. test. I finesse fish with it and have caught lots of bass when nothing else would do...I've had no line breaks and the line comes off the spool like a charm....... just another backup tool I have in my " fishing tool box".....

Anyone try it yet? Has was it?

Me personally, I have not. I'll be honest, I will probably never try it. A quick search here will come up with 20 plus negative experiences with it. That said, the same thing can be said about Berkley Vanish. I've had some decent luck with a test spool I got, but due to the track record of it, I won't recommend it. Same goes for Nanofil. I suppose if you were not worried about loosing a big fish or fishing for money, give it a shot.

The line is amazing in open water. any sort of cover it comes in contact with eats the line up.
