  1. I would get something like this, tie a strong nylon line to it and a float of some sort so the thermometer hangs under the surface a few feet and throw it out into the ponds.
  2. A proton, a neutron, and an electron walked into a bar and ordered a beer. The bartender asked for $4 from the proton and electron, but just slid a beer to the neutron. The proton and electron looked at each other and then at the neutron wondering why their beers cost. The neutron said "oh yeah, there's no charge for me!"
  3. I have a Flambeau AZ3 small tackle bag that I got at Walmart. It works great for wading and it holds three small boxes and has a ton of other zipper and magnet flap pouches to store stuff. It lists for $30 but I got it for just under $20 at our local store.
  4. Don't even really need a hook to fly fish for them. Just a short 3-4" length of nylon rope (the white kind that gets all frizzy when it unravels) and comb it out to make it look like a streamer. The rope strands get tangled in their teeth. From what I've heard they put up a heck of a fight for about 30 seconds before becoming a log on the end of your line.
  5. The battery I use came from Cabela's. It's an 8 amp-hr dry cell battery and I think it was around $25 for it and a charger. My kayak actually came with a battery bag so I just put it in there....
  6. I've built my own for abour $1.20 per jig. I got a bunch of jigheads off ebay for about $0.80 a piece (they have arky heads, brush gaurds and 4/0 gammy hooks) then I bought real rubber skirts from fishingskirts.com for $0.22 per tab and I use 2 tabs per jig...
  7. I have a lowrance elite-4x DSI mounted on my Ocean Kayak. Lowrance sells a scupper mount that I have my scupper mounted on and it works great. The finder was around $179 and the scupper mount was $35. I think I paid $25 for a RAM mount to mount it to the kayak.
  8. Oops, my graph didn't copy over like it should have... Wayne, your calculations are a little off, esp on the 60 degree cone...
  9. 60 degree cone covers about 11.5' of the bottom at 10 feet of depth. The formula is tan(1/2 angle of cone) x depth = bottom then multiply by two. Easy to figure out with a scientific calculator. For example. For 10' depth and a 20* cone Tan(20/2) x 10' = 1.76 x 2 = 3.52' bottom coverage For 10' depth and a 60* cone Tan(60/2) x 10' = 5.77 x 2 = 11.54'
  10. My uncle fishes a local weekly tournament out of a tracker pro 165 with a 60hp on it. Just depends on the tourney though. I think he says there's guys with tiller handle motors on Jons in his tourney.
  11. I got my Berkley Amp spinning rod from Dicks for $40 and its a great rod. They make a casting version too.
  12. Watch the Mike Rowe videos on the ecoboost v6. They take an F150 with one and put it through all sorts of tests. Pulling, distance, etc and they even remove the engine and put it in a baja truck and race it in the baja 1000 and it wins its class. Then after all the tests they break down the engine including the turbos and it looks darn near brand new inside. I think they put something like 500k miles on it or something through the tests. Made my mind up on what I want for a vehicle next.
  13. They are chatter stick baits: http://www.overstockbait.com/Chatter_Stick_p/cb-cstk3-08-oix.htm
  14. I have a Veritas micro guide rod paired with a 3rd gen Revo S and it's great. For what it's worth, Walmart still has their Veritas microguide casting rods on sale for $70.80+tax with free shipping on their website...
  15. I'm using one pitch and one spring and it works pretty well.
  16. I know that rubber skirts definitely move a lot more than the silicone in the water and look a lot more natural. The flat rubber tabs that I use make the jig fall relatively slow too. But I guess what matters there is the trailer size and the weight of the head too...
  17. I bought all my flat rubber skirts from fishing skirts.com and they work great. Nice price too although two tabs are almost too thick for my do-it skirt tying tube to fit through.
  18. When my girl gets big enough I found a pink rod and spin cast reel at Dicks. The rod is about 2' long and the reel has LED's that light up when you turn the handle...I think that she'll like it...
  19. I have an old Shakespear Go-Lite Swimming Mouse that was my grandpa's...Probably from the 30's or 40's...Looks a lot like this:
  20. I have a Shimano Clarus that is a couple years old that is a 6'10" MH two piece that I like and used the past year until I just got a one piece Veritas. You are right though, there aren't many two piece rods out there for casting setups. Abu Vengeance can be had as two piece, and Damiki makes one too...
  21. Any auto body shop that knows what they are doing should be able to paint plexiglass to the tint you want.
  22. I have them on my new Veritas rod and it definitely casts farther than my standard guide Shimano Clarus rod, but I'm not sure its because it's 2" longer, or that it has my new Revo S on it compared to a BPS pro qualifier on the Clarus. I guess I could always take the PQ off and put it on the Veritas to see if it still casts further. The micro guides definitely give a more sensitive feel to the rod and I guess it shaves off weight because my Veritas is longer but way lighter than my Clarus.
  23. I have the Revo S and Veritas Micro MH set up and it's a pretty nice lightweight setup. Casts a mile and looks great with the white on white...
  24. That perception looks nice for the price. And Academy sports sells it if you have any of those around you.
