  1. Yes, practice, but if you are not getting the same distance as spinning after a while, something might not be right... Make sure that you use the lure in the middle of the lure rating of your rod or bit higher when you start out. Make sure to use your thumb on the spool to control, but experiment how much pressure you apply. Play with the break / spool tension to find the right combination so that it is controlling well, but not stopping you from getting the distance. There should be whole bunch of video on youtube out there you can study.
  2. I think your original question was 'was it worth it'. That implied the you already had acknowledge there were some differences, but not sure the difference are worth the price difference. At the end, only you can answer that. Everybody's situation, both fishing and financial, are different. I think you got the information you need to make that decision. One thing I found some folks were not accurate in this thread was about the price, which I didn't want to go into, because recently the threads tend to turn into "buy from there don't buy from there" thread, but there are about $15 difference between the two on the lowest price I find on some auction site and Daiwa currently has a rebate on Lexa100 that you can download from their site. So we are actually talking a big price difference.
  3. Thanks for the review. I might give them a try with some of their unique blade baits when I need to get some.
  4. Ok, good point. I'm looking 1850 lbs. It is the package weight. Just took from 2013 Tracker Pro 170 spec, assuming something like this is what I'll eventually get.
  5. I wouldn't call it dramatic. But I have big hands, so you might feel different. Looking at the reel from the top, left corner where it hits my palm is more square with Tatula. And the front size is wider with Tatula, but that doesn't mean much for palming.
  6. I'm looking to buy a used suv up to $15K, $16 max. I would like it to be newer than 2008 or so. I'm planning on buying and towing 17ft aluminum boat. I'll have to drive up some hills to go to some of the waters I fish. I often drive for 100 miles one way for fishing. Is 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with v6 too weak for the job? Also is there any reliable tow rating chart that I can look up for any suv for the last 10 years? Some sites I found, shows different numbers for same car. Some don't go into detail about the engine size.
  7. For me, Yes. I have both. They both feel about the same for me in my hand weight wise. The biggest difference I feel between the two is the break. They are both mag breaks, but of different one. With Lexa, I feel the break is always on and does not increase the break as much at the top speed. It's kind of static. Tatula's break appears to be more dynamic. If I'm looking for something I want to cast far, I go with Tatula. If I don't care that, say like froggin, and want to save some $$$ at the same time, then Lexa. But for me, if I need one more reel, I'll just go with Tatula and go fishing.
  8. mama is testing how realistic you are about the money.

For boat, I use BPS's 370 red bag also. However, after I bought that I saw one from Cabel's I like their big one because it is more vertical than BPS one. My BPS one when it is fully loaded takes up lots of real estate on my small boat. I used to fill my front pocket with all extra plastics in their own bags, but it got too heavy so I don't do that any more. I just have ones I need in the 3700 boxes. That back pack looks very nice! I was looking for something like that last summer...one with tackel box compartment and rod holder on left side. I couldn't find anything nice, so I bought military type back pack which has bunch of straps and attached 12 inch PVC pipe to left side to carry extra rod.
  10. Yup, when I want that presentation.
  11. This review was for H rod. I wish they did on MH.
  12. Sounds like only little ones were there at the shallow that day. I would fish deeper or some different spots.
  13. I think this technique is not well known in general. I think I'll put the link to my signature.
  14. My opinion is it will kill fish if you don't remove it. With the technique mentioned above( to remove the hook from gill )together with pinched barbs, removing the gut-hooked hook is very easy and snap.
  15. The blade baits I bought are the first one on 'Blade Lure' section. They have whole bunch of designs and price varies widely there. Interesting. Their (not sure theirs) designs are unique. I wish my blade baits worked. I'm interested to hear your review.
  16. This depends. Are you looking for one all-round combo? What do you already have?
  17. Thanks guys for input. Many of newer SUVs has low tow ratings, therefore my looking at Pathfinder, but maybe I can get by with those car based suv's as I am planning on buying aluminum boat. Ron, I meant selling my current car for say $8K, add $5K and buy a newer suv around $13K, that was my plan number 1. Plan number 2 was to keep the current car, and get an older truck for $5k.
  18. I don't commute. I mostly work from home. If I get older truck, the cost of insurance is very minimal I think. Actually I used to have another car, an older car. When I gave that away, my insurance company actually increased my premium saying that now I drive my newer car 100% of the time.
  19. Do you have dedicated tow vehicle for your boat? Or one vehicle to tow and drive around the town? I want a bass boat. In order for me to get a bass boat, I will need to buy a tow vehicle. I currently drive 2008 Ford Fusion, which I like. I don't put lots of mileage, so it still have lots of life left. Anyhow, I looked into selling this and buying relatively new SUV by adding extra $5K. But I am having difficult time finding one. I was looking at Nissan Pathfinder 2008 as it appear to have enough power to tow because it is a truck based suv. I started checking craigslist, but it rarely comes around. When it did, the seller was asking way over blue book. Then it occurred to me maybe I can find a very old truck cheap for just fishing, probably less than $5K. I thought it might be easier to find such truck, and it might be more economical that way? What do you guys think?
  20. Is the spacer behind the bearing on the side plate in place? It is very thin one almost like a paper.
  21. I started off with spincast decades ago when I was a boy. I think it was probably a year later that I picked up my first baitcaster. I really didn't have much problem. Only thing I paid attention was to use the thumb to control the spool, which I'm sure you knew that already. I personally feel this backlash fear is overblown. What I would recommend is to get a reel with Centrifugal break with line like 12-14 lbs mono, M rod cause it loads better if that's not too soft for your intended application, and practice with a lure in the mid range of the rods rating. You'll be fine. Enjoy it.
  22. As OkobojiEagle said Acetone is the main ingredient of the nail polish remover. And they come in plastic container. A couple of different plastics I used so far to soak bearings worked fine. They are medicine bottles from pharmacy (those orange ones) and the caps of soda bottle.
  23. Yeah you guys are geeks
  24. Congrats! Nice boat! I am hoping to get me one of those myself within in a year.
