  1. Standard size for sure. This subject came up here before and I was a minor. My favorite color is California 420, what do you expect
  2. +1 +1 If there are lots of small fish and you want to catch them, one option is to go smaller with 4" senko, if you were not already using them, with 1/0 or 2/0 offset worm hook. I usually would not let the fish swim off with. I think you increase the chance of gut hooking too much. Especially with 4". I get hit, I reel it down and I set the hook. Not too fast, but not too slow either. I figure if I don't stick it, it was not meant to be caught. (or used wrong hook etc off course...)
  3. TWM, It is good that you are bringing the attention to this subject. I took 5 out of 10 die is more of a figure of speech... I have seen in some other forum that a couple of guys put the picture of bass covered with dirt, which looked like breaded tempura before being fried. Some of the pic was a guy stepping in the bass' mouth on the ground and taking picture. I thought those were isolated cases, but they were not. They kept coming. I made comment here and there. I didn't get the feeling not many people care that much. However, many of the cases were because they don't know better. So it is important to speak up about this time to time.
  4. HP43, others gave some good advice already. Let me add my .02. We don't know anything about your experience, so here's what I would say to someone relatively new to bass fishing who asked the question you asked...Keep the jig in your tackle box but don't use them for now. Learn to fish plastic worm well. Make sure to use weight, weightless fishing doesn't count for this. Learn to bottom fish first. Learn to feel the bottom. Then one of those good days that you caught multiple fish already on worms, tie your jig.
  5. Oh ok, yeah I might give a try sometime. The Spike-it is the one I got yesterday also. I was interested in the color, not the sent. I guess my expectation of the color strength was a bit too much for these products. I will stick with buying plastic with color I want for now.
  6. I just thought the swimming version of that since OP mentioned his steady retrieve...
  7. The one with the boot tail? I tried and I am still having better results with swimming fluke. BTW, What dip do you use? Yesterday I bought my first dip (well it is in a pen form), but was disappointed how little it changed the color of plastic.
  8. I can totally relate to this Mr TeaxRigs. I crank them in very fast myself. The reason is the same as yours to save as much of their energy as possible. I don't know how much time pro takes to get the fish in as I don't watch them on TV or anything, but a couple of clips I saw on KVD, he didn't play that long either. I do think the way you hold has something to do with it. I use net to pick them up except for dink. Then I hold lip to unhook and everything. I used to have fish shake a lot on me at that time. They still do, but one thing appeared to help for me was hold in the way so that fish's mouth is opened. I used to pick the fish up by lip with more of their mouth closed. I realized this when I saw some of the pictures of me holding the fish. This might have been my counter reaction to seeing those pro like Bill Dance jerking the fish's mouth in the way fish is almost horizontal. Anyhow, I now hold the fish with mouth open on purpose when I hold with one hand, and this seems to make them calm better.
  9. It is not a typo. I meant this-> http://www.pecheur.com/en/gb/buy-lure-delalande-strawberry-shad-gt-13cm-pack-of-4-43701.html No, you got me
  10. I think the hook right in the middle of the throat will greatly lessen the chance of survival. It just matter of time it starve to death. So for the reason, I always try to remove the hook. I would dip the fish in the water in my net so that it can get some oxygen if I have to take a bit longer time to remove the hook. Using pinched barb hook will make removing the hook so easy, even if they were gut hooked. The most of the time, I can remove the hook with one twist of my wrist in one sec. The joy of fishing increased after I started doing this. As long as you keep your line tight, you don't loose much fish because of this.
  11. I appreciate the concept. I was wondering if it delivers, i.e.hook up ratio. Anybody used them?
  12. My beloved wooden spook's hooks need replacing finally. Any recommendation of brand and size?
  13. bigbill I hope these reels last for you. I really do. I would have bought it and tried out if it was really $1.40. But shipping being $29, it is not really $1.40. I personally feel these tactics of cheep item with high s/h unethical and refuse to buy from seller like that. Also where it is made is one thing, but which company oversees is another. Things like reels, the quality control matters a lot.
  14. I might pick this. What color works best? The way it look in the store and on the water are very different...
  15. I carry a small camcorder with which the screen can flip 180. http://www.rakuten.com/prod/sanyo-xacti-vpc-cg20-digital-camcorder-2-7-lcd-cmos-black-16-9-10/214525908.html?listingId=253068515 I can see myself before pushing a button or before the self timer goes off. I combine this with a mini tripods (on land) or monopod (attached to the boat). It works out very good. Only problem is this kind of camcorder is not very popular and I had a hard time buying replacement when I drop one in the water. Anyhow, 20 inch, 4.5lbs is my guess.
  16. It looks like some of you had good experience with Daiwa Gold Cast, which is hard to believe after my experience with Silver Cast. I bought my daughter a Silver Cast a couple of years ago, so that she can use some of my casting rods to go to a lake where larger bass are found. It has the same lager hole design as Gold Cast. This reel gave me nothing but trouble casting. I would cast and for some unknown reason the line gets locked midair. I was using the line size within the recommended range. I tried a couple of different ones with no luck. My first reel when I was boy was a Daiwa's spin cast. I didn't have any problem with it. So I didn't see this coming and was very disapointed. One other person I met on other fishing forum had exactly the same problem.
  17. Yup, the 'out' part is the bigger side for me, as in " I need to get out'.
  18. I fish jigs in winter months on my local lakes when they are closed for boating. They work for me. Sometimes I only bring a box which only have a few jigs in it. For some reason, I don't use much during warmer months. I would like to stick with one size of jig (1/2 oz) and mostly same design of jig (Archy). I mostly use the same trailer (twin tail grub). I like to always use the same rod, same reel and same line. By keeping things always the same, I get better feel of what my jig is doing down there deep, like hitting rocks or bites. If I switch around things, I lose that sense and I have to re-learn. Hope this makes sense.
  19. If you are looking for somewhere not to far from Zama, you might want to check out and ask around about Lake Tanzawa (丹沢湖). It is is Yamakita -cho (machi) (山北町) in the same prefecture.
  20. Do you know why Sushi is served with pickled ginger? Eating Sushi with finger is the proper and cool way of doing it in Tokyo and pickled ginger, not only eatable, but removes the fishy smell from you finger. However unless you are sushi chef other methods mentioned already should be easier.
  21. The baits which have swimming action of the fish. There are hard baits (they are big, heavy and expensive) and soft baits (hollow berry). Go to bass pro or *** and type swimbaits to see for yourself.
  22. Jelly Worm, grape I think. So long ago I don't even remember for sure. Senko didn't exist yet. I think I'll pick some up and fish next time, just for fun memory of it.
  23. I don't have tennis elbow problem, but I do use both hands to cast. I don't know how you all cast, but the way I do, the most of the work is done by snapping action of right wrist and pull of the left hand, if that makes sense. Right hand move is similar to using a small hammer nailing a small nail. I have one pistrol grip I still take out time to time, it feels very weird casting with one hand now, except when I roll cast. My problem area is my left wrist from twitching action that I give to baits. I tried to learn to use my arm instead, but it feels wired.
  24. Solid advice right there. Thanks, DVT. A spacer behind the left bearing was missing. When I lost the bearing, this space flew away too. Since it is black and the hosing was also black, I didn't realize this was missing when I was comparing two reels. Good thing I hadn't vacuumed the carpet, the little black spacer was still there. My reel is good now. Through this exercise Ive gained some knowledge about reels. I have two vintage reels that I still use time to time. I wanted to clean this up, but I am afraid to touch them. I probably cannot get parts any more. In winter, I give myself lots of time to tackle these, if I decided to try.
  25. Today I went out fishing with Citica with cleaned out / oil dropped bearings. It did make a difference in casting I think. It became a bit more noisy, but I assume that's expected without grease. When I was doing this work for two of my Citica, several mishap happened. First I drop the bearing, I was looking all over the place, but couldn't find it. It turned out it was stuck on the desk drawer and never made it to the floor, no wonder I couldn't find. Then while I was doing this, I noticed that one of the reel was really dirty. I decided to just clean out those dried up weeds and allege. After putting everything together, the reel made horrible grinding noise! I took things apart, but I do not see anything. I thought I might have damaged the bearings, so I swapped them with other Citica. That wasn't it. I noticed this noise became stronger, when I tighten the break. I thought I damaged the spring which holds one of the bearing. I swapped it. Not that's still not it. While I was doing this swapping, the spring decides to jump out. I thought it went behind my desk which is not easy to access. (Sigh.) Went to Shimano site to buy this spring, only to find out they are out of stock (*!@%$!!!) I gave up and decided to go to sleep, but decided to look the floor one more time. Bingo! It was there. Back to where I was two hours ago. Anyhow, at this point, I am suspecting, something very tiny, like a grain of sand, is in the small groove on left cover (this is righty reel), when I was cleaning this reel. I think the spool's outer lip goes into this groove, and not much play there, so a bit of sand can cause this problem(?). I will try to clean that out with alcohol tomorrow to see if that fix this problem.
