Carolina Rigging In Summer
I use 50lb / 65 lb braid with flouro leader. I just use this size braid because I do share my reel with other use. I use mojo style weight or recently trying out the walker type weight which seem to get snagged less. I noticed your title was Carolina rigging in Summer. But me, I do this more in winter in deeper water.

Split Shot Rig Help.
I didn't know they even called this split shot rig and I am probably doing wrong, but here is how I use split shots... I just use split shot when I need more weight than weightless and less weight than bullet weight. I adjust the weight until it feels right. I would like to be able to feel the bait/weight just a tiny bit. I mainly use with stick baits on spinning set up. I sometimes used 4" single tail grubs. i especially like to use over submerged grass area by hopping over it just above the grass. The retrieve is not too slow and not too fast the way I do. This was my go to set up to introduce the sports to my children.

Cant Catch Anything With Senkos????
Not sure how many times you went out, but sometimes you catch more fish with other baits than senko. Let the fish tell you what they want and go with it. I would trade any senko fish with any Hula Popper fish any time.

Abu Garcia Owners (Ago)
The last several reels I purchased had been all Shimano's. I won a Sliver Max this year. The reel is nice and smooth and casts well. I purchased a couple of Citia G's last year. I found the Silver Max is smoother than Citica G. The price is less than a half of Citica, the reel is a good deal. I'll see how long it will last.

Hooksets With Braid.
Like Scott said, you'll soon develop the feel of the hook set. I set my drag a bit loose on braid to the point I hear a little bit of drag going every time I set the hook.

Keeping A Trophy Fish
Good Job, hookedahawg. If you'd kept it, your special memory would had been ruined because you would be feeling guilty. Congrats on PB. BTW, those of you suggested replica, which companies are good ones? I would like to check them out and know what they need for making one.

Braid For Everything
I went all braid last year. I'm mostly happy, but I am thinking about going back to fluoro on some of them. My reasoning of going back is 1) braid floats too much for some application 2) braid might spook the fish Someone pointed out that if you are using fast moving bait, the visible braid might spook the fish BEFORE the bait get to where fish is. I thought about this before and forgot about it. But his commented brought back this doubt in my head. I might have to go back and forth for a couple of more years before I settle.

Polarized Glasses - Any Science To Compare Them?
I haven't bought any sunglasses except for the cheapo for long time. I get one of those from like $20 BPS one. I just wear them for awhile and replace when they get scratched up. Are $200 glasses that better? When I wear at the store, it is kind of hard to tell the difference...I also wonder about the colors.

Do You Tie Direct To Jigs/lures Or Use A Snap Swivel ?
I do not think using snap or snap swivel will change your catch ratio directly because of the extra visual deterrent, but it will if it catches too much weed and your lure become weed ball by the time you get your lure back. I was direct everything for long time but recently started using snaps when I bank fish with one rod. The idea is that while I am searching for the bait/color that fish want that day by rotating them, even if 10 seconds per cut/re-tie will adds up and this can make me lazy about changing the bait. I don't do that when I fish from my boat because I carry several rods.

Setting The Hook On Plastics
I believe some folks use hand lining technique and call it "twitching". Edit actually "stitching".

Setting The Hook On Plastics
x2. Having hi-vis line helps to watch the line move in low light condition. I think about the size of bait vs size of average fish when I time the hook set. I do not want to wait too long with 4" senko. Also I recommend pinching the barb with single hook with small bait as it is easy to gut hook as you are practicing the timing.

Best Inflatable Fishing Boat
I've got Intex Mariner 4 with a custom hard floor with 55 lbs electric motor. The boat is great. It's got a keel. It does what is supposed to do well, but to be honest, I am tired of setting this thing up every time I go out.

Help Me Think About This.
x2 about going flouro. Stren has hi-vis clear blue which makes it easier to see in low light situation, might help you for closer range.

Map Coordinates Help
Called the agency. She didn't know what system it was used. She said the USGS was commissioned to do the survey for them back in 60's. I am not sure, but this map is titled "Lexington Reservoir" and it does not have the contour of the hills, only the lake. Sent a PM to Alpster.

Map Coordinates Help
Tried UTM or Nothing/Easting converters with zone 10, which California is I believe. But the log / lat coordinate came out way wrong. And the map does not have anything regarding reference point or system using. BTW these maps are date 1969. I'll have to try to get in touch with the agency.

Map Coordinates Help
I'm looking at the map of our local lake here in California. I'm trying to match the coordinates I find on the printed map to my GPS, so that I can enter way points into my unit. But it is using something other than standard GPS coordinates. I searched around, but I didn't find anything that resembles this coordinate system. Here is one example. One spot I was interested on Google map (Lexington Res in California) has GPS coordinate of about: +37.19'39.80", -121. 59' 24.93" On the printed map that I acquired from the local water agency who oversees this lake, the same spot is marked approximately at: "48,000N, 50,000E" Can someone tell me what these numbers are? I mean, why it is even E(East)? Thanks!

Carolina Rig Setups
I do c-rig from bank during colder months. I use 50 lb braid to swivel and the flouro leader maybe 2ft long depending on water clarity. I use 1/2 oz mojo weight or walker sinker, sometimes heavier. I like this set up because, these sinkers seem to get snagged less than other type of sinkers, and if they did get snagged, I have better chance of yanking them free because of the braid up to the swivel. Hooks, depends on the bait.
