  1. Well, as long as it does not negatively effect the bite and nobody charging extra for it, I'm for coffee scent. It will probably help for me to wake up and fish in the early morning. I love fishing, but waking up is tough part for me. (Wait there was a thread about the weakness...) I didn't know about 16", must be new addition. Yeah, me too 10" is the biggest now. But if you think about it, those worms look smaller sometimes depends on how they are retrieved and how flexible they are. They can bunch up in the water. However if I use 16", I feel I get more tail nibblers.
  2. What would be the lowest grade Shimano spinning reel you would consider? I'm not much of spinning guy, but this can become my spare or my daughter's main set up. I'm looking 2500, if that matters.
  3. I just picked up the first 7" Anaconda too (not fished yet) and I was wondering the same thing!
  4. You are saying your hand cramps from holding the rod with deep diving crank bait vibration, correct? So it is more about the rod than the reel, no?
  5. And also don't forget those rating are meant be just a guideline. Some rods can handle more or less than the others. The same rating from different manufacturer feel very different sometimes.
  6. I saw this video before and tried this before too. I wasn't so much fund of having three ends sticking out from a knot, but didn't have any problem otherwise and agree it is a good knot. And I just noticed this is basically doubled version of Pitzen Knot with 3 turns (It is not doubled San Diego Jam because he does not go through the bottom opening before the loop at the top.) My current preference is the regular Pitzen Knot over doubled version because only one end sticking out from the knot, the knot is more compact and no need to double up which slows me down sometimes.
  7. We have Glenn to answer your question, but I use both fluke and swimming fluke however I feel like. My favorite way for regular fluke is probably split shooting and swim it over weeds with some jerk motion. I'm guessing your set up with 10 lbs is the lightest rod which can throw this? I also do with keel weighted hook, especially with swimming fluke.
  8. Wow, Maico1, wow. The little quarter where your fishing buddies can gather is a nice touch. Some part looks like a store.
  9. I was thinking the exact same thing as you, SudburyBasser. Cabela has a lot more choices of styles, and better ones than BPS.. (Plus I am not happy with BPS.)
  10. papajoe222, takes a real man to admit this My weakness (in fishing) is just do what others tell me to do. I have to analyze it myself first. Edit: I take this back. I actually don't think this is a weakness.
  11. Pitzen Knot. I do with 5 wraps for 15 lbs.
  12. Where I am (Northern California), it never gets cold enough to freeze the lakes. And I never stop fishing, but the place I can fish sometimes become limited, not because of the temp but due to murky water. I pick a day when a nice weather is expected to go fishing. So that in case I get skunked, it is still enjoyable. Today was one of those days. Rain is expected for next 5 days starting tomorrow, but today was nice. @ 8 am, I saw the frost on the lake shore, but the water temp was still around 52 degree. Caught 4 dropshotting, shad, worm and grub. They are small, but I still had fun. If the weather turns, I just come home.
  13. All right, I'll pick up 7" Rage worm tomorrow instead of Power Worm I was planning to pick up.
  14. Ok, I have never used one, so educate me please... I hear folks say they got some great action, but what does that mean exactly? When you compare lets say, Rage Grub with, Zoom Fat Albert, what is the difference in action, bigger wobble maybe? It also look like it is good when the baits are moving, but how about with supper slow barley moving presentation?
  15. In your opinion, what temperature bass go to winter mode and what temperature do they come out of it?
  16. Mine is this: http://www.target.com/p/compact-instant-read-digital-thermometer/-/A-11010202#prodSlot=medium_2_37&term=Thermometer
  17. x2 Also I tend NOT to buy lures many are saying good and buy something else, unless I see myself why particular lure is better than the other.
  18. Ok, I see their '25 days of savings" thing going on. Is that what you are referring? If so, the deals are very limited to what they selected...
  19. I'm interested to know how they performed this test and to know how scientific this is. I'm not sure what Feeding Response Magnitude (%) means and how it was calculated... On the chart, the Anise's bar's height appears to be either 1% or 2% based on the vertical scale. Let's say it is 2%. Then they had to try at least 50 times and bass ate 1 time. That's 2%. In order to compare 6 flavors, they have to do the same thing for all six. That's 50 x 6 = 300 tests. And if you repeat the same test to the same fish, the result would not be so accurate. They have to have lots of fish in similar condition to have good tests. Or I am totally not getting the meaning of the chart...
  20. Clint, so where is this study from?
  21. wait..what? when? I have several items I need to get that local shops don't have...

I had some luck with smaller swim jigs. I take any smaller jigs which has eye of the hook at the very front of the jig head, and add some trailer. Some of them are labeled as swim jigs, some are not. Colors for me are mostly shad pattern. The trailers are usually paddle tails. Some of the trailers are tail section of used paddle tail swim baits. I'm not very picky about brands and stuff, but I pay attention to where fish might be and if the set up is right size and weight. I would cast, reel and twitch all the way to the boat.
  23. I fish from bank in winter. Jigs and craw soft plastic work for me. I fish deep and slow. Our lake will never get as cold as your lake but still I found the most of the fish in deep. I use long stiff flipping rod to cast as far as I can and strong enough to set the hook when the lure is far and deep. Other guys were productive with swimbait slowly dragging the bottom as well.
  24. scbassman28, I use Stren 100% Flouro up to 17lbs (not Florocast). I use either San Diego Jam or Pitzen knot. With 17lbs, I do 5-6 turns. No problem at all. Try if you haven't try. I used to have problem with Improved Clinch.
  25. +1 And thread like Senko $3.89, which I missed.
