  1. Between the 2 I'd get the Helios. I don't want to mess around the gen 3 Revos because of all the qc issues I've heard about. I'd also check out the Lews TP and Shimano Chronarch if you haven't already.
  2. I also like the Gamakatsu hooks. I just got some 1/8oz VMC wacky jig heads and I like those a lot too. Not heard good things about the VMC weighless wacky hooks though. I stick with Gamakatsus there.
  3. As far as actual fishing, I'd pick the Veritas. I like working lures with it more than the Mojo. BUT, the trigger doesn't feel very good on my hand/fingers and I much prefer cork over eva. Its really a toss up if you ask me. I'd recommend checking out the Shimano Compre as well as the ***. The Compre is my favorite 100 dollar rod. I haven't handled an *** but I've hear an overwhelming amount of good things about it.
  4. I really started using braid to a fluoro leader. Its my new favorite combo as far as line goes for my fishing. I don't have nearly the issues with the heavier fc backlashing and keeping memory.
  5. BPS Carbonlite/Pro Qualifier - 6'6 - 7' M/F rod, whatever gear ratio you prefer.
  6. I'd prefer a higher gear ratio but thats just me. Other than that I think you picked out good equipment.

I like the Punkin' Ed, but I would also check out the Mega Strike Shakey2. I've been meaning to get a pack because everything I've seen and read is awesome.
  8. Thanks guys. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at unloading my cranking rod. I just never use it and feel like I would get a lot more use out of another rod that I could use for worms, jigs, etc. I fish lipless cranks up to 1/2oz on my 702c Dobyns Champ and it actually does a great job. With the frequency that I throw squarebills I would feel ok throwing them on one of my M/F spinning set ups.
  9. I had a 200 G6. I sold it only because it was a RH reel. I liked it a lot. I had it spooled with 12# Yo Zuri.
  10. I was thinking the other day about lures I throw and the frequency with which I throw them. I RARELY ever throw a crankbait now (squarebills and mid-depth divers, I dont fish anything below ~10ft). I fish from a kayak, not a bass boat so the number of rods I can take is also limited to 3 max. Because of this, I hardly ever take out my cranking set up. So my question is, what can you accomplish with a crankbait that you can't with a spinnerbait, swimjig, vibrating jig, etc.? Thanks.
  11. I haven't used the code but I would feel comfortable recommending the PQ over it. Most Quantum reels get spotty reviews unless you're at the upper end of their models (Smoke, Exo, etc.). The PQ, however, has a good reputation. I have 2 and I feel that they perform up there with some of my more expensive reels. For 100 bucks (or cheaper if they're on sale) I don't think they can be beat. As far as gear ratio, I would use either a 6:1 or 7:1 reel. I use 6:1 for all of my applications but I don't think you can go wrong with a 7:1 for bottom contact presentaions, like jigs.
  12. Gotcha. I'd definitely throw it on the Veritas then. Also, I just started throwing my shakey heads on a spinning set up and I like it a lot. I feel like it helps me slow down a lot more than when I throw it on my "finesse" bc set up.
  13. I'd use the fc. I like either 10# fc or 20#braid w/ a 10#fc leader for shakey heads. I also don't usually go higher than 1/4oz though on a M/F rod.
  14. Either cranking or punching mats. Others might use moderate actions for other things but for the most part those are the two most common applications that I can think of. As far as your question, bluebasser pretty much answered your question IMO.
  15. mostly zoom trick worms
  16. What type of crankbaits will you use? I like a shorter rod for squarebills for casting accuracy. Deeper divers I would get something longer. I don't think you could go wrong with either as it will mostly come down to personal preference.
  17. Depending on the power of your jig rod you could throw spinners on there, unless you are no longer going to use the casting set up. I like to throw my treble hooks on a MH/M rod. Everything else is on a F or XF action rod (I don't have a punching rod). I suppose you could try but I want a faster tip when setting a single hook lure like a spinnerbait. Personally, I would prefer bc rigs for those set ups as well, but thats not saying you can't stick with whats comfortable for you. There are plenty of guys out there that use only spinning reels.
  18. For 100 bucks you can get the BPS PQ. A solid reel to start off with. It has both centrifugal and magnetic brakes. If you want to bump up your price range, the Abu Revo S and Shimano Citica would be good choices. If you want to stay around 150 I'd check out the Lews Tournament Speed Spool. Another reel I'd suggest checking out is the Daiwa Lexa. I don't have any experience with it but it gets a lot of good reviews. Everything I hear about the Vendetta isn't bad, but I would recommend bumping up your price to 100 bucks. I feel like there are a lot of quality choices for the price at that point. Abu Veritas, St. Croix Mojo, *** and Shimao Compre would all be good choices.
  19. Jig, swim jig, senko
  20. Powell Endurance or Max on sale at the fish ranger
  21. Thanks. Some how I missed that. For under 130 I'd check out the Powell Endurance or Max. They can be had for 109 right now. Either the 714 or 723 would be great all around choices.
