  1. So who owns the lake? Is there a home owners association involved? It sounds like your parents need to talk directly to the sheriff himself and whoever actually owns the property.
  2. I agree, on both parts of the post. I've recently gotten confident enough with my baitcasters that I'm really enjoying them and want to fish them all the time. But I still bring a spinning setup almost every time out for certain lures/techniques.
  3. Either one would work. But a MH/F is usually considered a good all-around bass rod.
  4. I think he means cut up a bluegill and use chunks of it as bait. At least that's my definition of "cut bait". And it does work great.
  5. I've always used the same approach during the day. And I've caught just as many as I did at night.
  6. A couple years ago when I first got back into fishing, I was doing quite a bit of live bait fishing. One weekend I went camping with my friend and his family at a small lake. None of us were having much luck. I think the only "keeper" all weekend had been a catfish caught by my buddies wife. However, I was getting a lot more bites than everyone else fishing among some submerged trees. Problem was, I wasn't actually landing any of the fish that were biting my night crawlers. And to make matters worse, I kept getting hung up on those submerged trees and breaking off, losing my hooks, worms and bobbers. On the day we were going to be leaving I noticed my friend's stepson fishing my spot, so I walked over to ask him how he was doing. He said nothing was biting, and said he was tired of fishing, so I took his rod n reel and took over for him. A short time later I got hung up on a tree yet again! Frustrated with all the hooks I had lost, and now was going to lose my buddy's son's hook and bobber too, I sat down in a lawn chair, cracked open a cold one and just set the rod down with the line still hung up in the tree. About 10 minutes later I found myself spilling beer as I dove headfirst to keep the rod from going into a lake. Turns out a 5 pound channel cat got the hook unsnagged for me! I reeled it in and triumphantly held it up above my head as if I was actually a skilled angler or something A short time later I also caught a 4 pound bass on a nightcrawler too!
  7. I'm not very superstitious. And I don't use scents much. I only use it on soft plastics. I'm not even 100% sure what scent it is... crawfish I think.
  8. Yeah, there will be days like that. I've gotten skunked a couple times this year too. I've also had days where the minnow and worm fisherman weren't catching anything, and were blown away with the fact that I was hauling in nice sized bass and crappie on my artificial lures. You just never for sure how the fish are going to act on any given day.
  9. It will probably be fine. Spinning or casting?
  10. The Abu Garcia Veritas for $80, in M or MH might fit what you're looking for.
  11. That's what I'm using. It is glass, 6'10" medium moderate. I love it. You might have to pay $110-120 though.
  12. One day I lost 7 lures and only caught 3 fish. I was disgusted. Then over the course of 2 days this week, I caught about 40 fish and only lost one lure towards the end of the second day. There will be ups and downs of course. But if you can't be afraid to lose some lures if you want to catch fish.
  13. I for one don't care if global warming is real or not. Pollution, litter, trash = bad. Conservation, clean air and water, nature = good.
  14. I still thought that was true...
  15. Another option besides baitcast and spincast, is a regular spinning reel, which is what a lot of people use for soft plastics.
  16. The OP asked this question in June, and hasn't been here since January, just fyi
  17. As others have said, worms for bluegill and minnows for crappie. I also catch a ton of both, as well as bass, on roadrunners.
  18. Yeah, it sounds like you're tying a clinch knot. After you wrap it 6 times and go through the loop, that should create another loop above. If you go through that loop too, you'll have an improved clinch knot, which has always worked for me. Recently I've been using a trilene knot though, which I like a lot. Look for those on youtube, as well as the palomar knot.
  19. Thanks guys! The 2 kinds of line that I've purchased recently are 12# suffix siege which I put on a baitcast reel, and 8# stren original which I put on a spinning reel. I'm really liking the suffix siege so far. But the stren seems like it might have some memory issues, which is what prompted me to ask this question. Just wanted to see what others were using. Thanks again.
  20. What are the best kinds of mono line? I'm looking for something with as low memory as possible for mono, and preferably something not terribly expensive either.
  21. I have the tournament speed spool, and I would highly recommend it. I haven't used the regular speed spool though, so I can't tell you if the tournament is worth the extra money or not. I actually found my tournament for less than $120 though.
  22. Last week I had one of the windiest days of fishing of my life, and I was killin em on shallow diving cranks in natural colors.
  23. Probably either the grub or the flash. But they all have their time and place.
  24. I don't own a boat and I live in an apartment. So inside is the only option. I have one bedroom that doesn't really get used, so it has become my fishing gear room. Besides, keeping it inside makes it easier for me to play with my toys, especially on boring evenings. I do usually leave a tackle box and my 2-piece spinning rod locked in the cab of my truck though. That way it's a couple less things to carry in and out, plus I'm ready to fish at any time.
