  1. I'm trying to spool up one of my spinning reels with new line, and most of the line is going onto the lower part of the spool. So, by the time the top of the spool is covered with line, the bottom is starting to overflow. wth?
  2. I'm on a first name basis with the conservation agents in both my home county, and the county I currently reside in. I have a lot of respect for them and the job they do. Usually they check my license early in the year. And then, since they know me, they don't ask me for it again for the rest of the year, and any future encounters I have with them are friendly conversations. If they ever asked nicely to search my truck, I would probably hand them the keys and tell them to go ahead as long as I could keep fishing while they do That being said, I think our founding fathers would be appalled that some people believe we should accept authority just because, and that we should not be concerned with our rights. Here are a couple of quote from Thomas Jefferson: 1. "A Bill Of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference." 2. "Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I did not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but they tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual." Oh, and while searching for the exact wording on those, I stumbled upon a third one, which might be the MOST IMPORTANT ONE FOR THIS TOPIC 3. "I never consider a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as a cause for withdrawing from a friend."
  3. Other law enforcement officers need probable cause (or your permission) to search your vehicle. Isn't it the same with game wardens?
  4. My thoughts exactly
  5. Moderate action for sure. Medium or medium heavy power, it's up to you. I recently got my crankbait rod. It's a St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass 6'10" M/M
  6. I almost always used an improved clinch knot on my mono. I wrap 5 or 6 times. I can't remember ever having one fail.
  7. That thread basically says that 3 combos will get the job done. I have 4 combos dedicated to bass (2 more for catfish, plus my little ol zebco). 2 spinning setups, one bc setup for treble hook lures, and another one for general purpose/everything else. I'm a bank fisherman, so I only take 2 or occasionally 3. I wish I had a boat so I could take 4 or 5. I don't think I would ever need more than that.
  8. I've heard to fill the spool until it's about 1/16 of an inch from the outer edge of the spool. But I think most people will advise you to go heavier than 8 pound mono.
  9. Sounds good. If it's the wrong retrieve he can exchange it, like you said. Otherwise, I think you did well. That's some nice gear you got him. Lucky guy.
  10. Nice! Getting that first one of the year is always a great feeling!
  11. Definitely girlfriend of the year category. My only concern is wondering if he uses left hand or right hand retrieve. Did you peek at any of his reels to see?
  12. My Avid is a 7' M/F spinning. I love it. Very light and sensitive. And although I try to be careful with it, I can be a little clumsy when dealing with rods sometimes, and so far it has proved to be very durable.
  13. Thanks for the reply. That's what I suspected. I probably need to wait a second longer with the minnows. And I may have instinctively set the hook too hard a couple times too.
  14. 1. What power, action and length do you prefer on a crappie fishing rod. Any specific suggestions on brand/model of rods and reels are welcome as well. 2. I'm too broke to buy even a cheap setup dedicated to crappie right at the moment. All of my current setups are for bass or catfish. I've been using a 7' medium fast rod for crappie. It seems like I'm only hauling in about 50% of the bites I've gotten. I feel like I must be doing something wrong on the hookset. Any advice there? Thanks.
  15. I've caught several bass, including a 4 pounder, on roadrunners this year.
  16. That's an awesome article! I can't believe I didn't find it myself with all the google searches I've done. Thanks.
  17. Thanks for the responses guys. It's going to be the Gasconade River. Not sure of the exact location yet. But I think it's pretty close to where it flows into the Missouri.
  18. I have no idea where to start. I have never caught a smallmouth. I have never targeted smallmouth. I rarely fish in waters that have smallmouth. And I rarely fish a river. But in the near future I may have the opportunity to fish for smallmouth in a river in southern Missouri. Where do I even begin?
  19. I thought there was no cure. But then I hit rock bottom. When it got to the point where I had spent so much on gear that I had to worry about having enough gas money to get out and actually fish, I started to change my ways.
  20. Many years I had a couple tomato plants. But last year was my first real garden. I had a bunch of tomatoes of 2 different varieties, 2 different kinds of cucumbers, and about 5 different kinds of peppers... I love peppers, especially the hot ones. It was all organic, and it turned out well. This year, I'm living in an apartment with no yard. My mom said I could plant a garden in their back yard and she'd try to water it occasionally since I can't be there to take care of it multiple times a week. So I'm thinking about just trying corn and beans and seeing how that goes.
  21. I caught the majority of my bass last year fishing crank baits from the shore. And some of my largest ones this year have come on crankbaits.
  22. That would be my answer exactly if the question was, "What do you listen to on your way to and from the lake". While I'm actually fishing, I don't listen to any.
