  1. So...you believed in bigfoot up until this thread? All it took was some sarcastic responses and now you don't? Me thinks you ought to work on your critical thinking skills (no offense).
  2. Ahh, I see. I didn't know that. Thanks.
  3. Keel weighted hook would work too, wouldn't it?
  4. Holy crap! This looks very interesting....
  5. Well, yea. People who go sticking their arms into holes under water with no idea what's in there, hoping they get bit by a fish, tend to be a bit....crazy.
  6. Everything I have read re:smallmouth bass says YES! they are schooling fish. However, the river spot I have been fishing has yielded only one fish per outing. 2 weekends ago, I got one on a lipless crank. Yesterday was a spook. No matter what else I threw, I got zilch, nada, zippola. Granted, both times the fish were caught shortly after sunrise. I am fishing from shore and have maybe 200 yards of shore to work with, but only from one side and there is no downed timber (well, there is but it is out of reach and I want a boat just for that tree lol). Every outing this year (save for the one time I was in a boat on Delavan Lake) I have had this problem, so the idea that was brought up about fish communicating to one another is starting to ring true for me. What I have yet to find info on, though, is how river bass move in relation to time of day.
  7. I don't think he'd have an arm left if he was hillbilly handfishing lol.
  8. I've got Gander Mountain branded senko's and worms and they are COVERED in salt. Also, my buddy pours sea salt in his worm bags and swears by it. I've also got some tubes that have KVD's name (old, can't remember the brand) on them and they, too, are covered in salt.
  9. In regards to scent, we see a lot of manufacturers heavily salt their soft plastics and garlic smelling spray seems to be a go to for bass fishing. Has anyone tried garlic salt? I've thought about using it, but I don't know if it would be detrimental to the chemical makeup of soft plastics.
  10. I don't know if it's the writing, or the "actors". It used to be full of seriously funny people. Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Chris Farley, Dan Akroyd, etc. etc. Now, it is full of nobodies, save for a few here and there like Andy Samberg who is only situationally funny. He's only funny if you think his shtick is funny. The others? Original comedians. EVERYONE laughed at them.
  11. Cone to think of it, I was rather strong/fast in my retrieval. The fish didn't seem to mind, though, since I had a few other blow up at it aside from the one I landed. I forgot how much fun topwater fishing was in the morning as the fog is burning off the water.
  12. Thanks again guys. I received some Tatsu Senshi that I need to review but don't have a reel I can fill with it. I think I just found a purpose for it and can at least review one aspect of it. :edit: I meant Senshi, not Tatsu.
  13. Haven't watched since Chris Farley died and from what I hear, I'm not missing much.
  14. I'd rather fish a jig with a rusty hook than not fish a jig at all.
  15. Palomar tied directly to the lure.
  16. You guys are right (as usual). I'm using 20# power pro, no leader. I'll try a leader next time. Thank you.
  17. I fished a spook for the first time today and maybe every other cast, my line would get tangled around the front hook, sometimes both. Is this normal? I even managed to lose the front hook mysteriously. I changed it out with a treble from a crankbait, but it killed the action. It would sit up in the water when I wasn't moving it, but as soon as I started popping it, it would go under. Treble too heavy?
  18. Good call. It's a full size spook. I didn't think of that.
  19. thanks. Now.... Does anyone care to take a stab at guessing the length?
  20. Dang, I was thinking it was at least 3. Ok, I was hoping.
  21. I thought he was a decent size fish when I caught it, but i don't have any means of measuring. He had a good size gut on him too lol.
  22. I do that all the time. Oddly enough, a great number of my fish have been caught on my "last cast". better yet, it's" I'm not tying on any more lures if this one doesn't get a bite" followed by tying on 3 more baits. Or a personal one of mine when fishing heavy cover or heavy snags "I'm done as soon as I lose this lure" agsin followed by tying on, amd losing, 3 more lures.
  23. I've been reading/hearing that people tend to use lower ratio for cranking because it stays in the strike zone longer. I suppose either would work, depending on the situation, though.
  24. Lower (5.x:1) means less line is retrieved with each turn of the handle. A lot of people seem to like these for crankbaits. Higher (7.x:1) is the opposite: more line is retrieved with each handle turn. A lot of people use these for heavy cover (maybe flippin jigs) to get the fish out faster. Medium (6.x:1) is (obviously) right in the middle and a jack of all trades.
