Hi guys!

this are some of my biggest catfish from italy. The big mom was 227cm and have a weight over 170 pounds. The smaller two fish have 219cm and 180 cm. it made lot of fun to catch this giant fish.

Well, yea. People who go sticking their arms into holes under water with no idea what's in there, hoping they get bit by a fish, tend to be a bit....crazy.

Unreal, that looks like a great time. What kind of bait, and tackle, are you using for these guys?

For all of us metric challenged, 227cm is 7.5'!

Those big wels look like they would be a blast to catch. They remind me a lot of the flathead catfish we have here, only bigger.

• i caught them with livebaits,small carps(1-2 pounds) in 1-2meters depth. My rod is a Rhino bigfish 3 meters and my reel a penn spinnfisher 950.I don´t know the usa dimensional unit.

Sounds like you're equipment is very similar to what lots of guys over here use for big catfish. Big flatheads live in nasty areas so some use shorter, heavier rods with strong baitcasters and heavy braided line to help move the brutes before they can bury back into the cover they live in. We also use a lot of big livebait or fresh cutbait. Wels and flathead look a lot alike in the front half of their bodies. Same huge mouth, big flat head, beady eyes, broad pectoral fins. This is my largest flathead as an example of the similarities. The tails are the only major difference.

I use also a heavy braided line 0,55mm with a lifting capacity over 140pounds.

And its more than a fight with this fish,your muscle hurts and you feel every bone in your body its great.They are very strong and the river make with his flow the fight harder.

The largest flathead ever caught on rod and reel came from Kansas and weighed 123lbs. There's been fish caught over 150lbs on commercial gear or in nets though. They live in most states here from the midwest to every coast. I haven't seen the movie in years but I'm pretty sure the fish in that movie was a flathead.
