  1. I barely put any stock in tomorrow's forecast, let alone the 10 day.
  2. It is actually the main ingredient in scabies/lice medication.
  3. IMO, pro's didn't get to where they are because they can't adapt to new water. Double that sentiment since you are talking about "elite" pro's. These guys get paid the big bucks (winnings and sponsors) simply because they can consistently catch fish. Not just on one body of water, but across the country. Maybe, just maybe, back in the old days before all the advancements in technology, the local guys had a shot. But today, given the proper equipment, someone who has never even seen the lake except for his topo map, his graph and a look at local weather patterns, has equal (if not better) chances of pulling in a good bag. Technology trumps lore. Science trumps gut instinct.
  4. Noodling for pike is never a good idea. I think you are only supposed to do that with fish that don't have sharp teeth.
  5. I've just had a far worse time here than anywhere else I've ever been. I never had allergies or asthma until I moved here. My ex is completely looney tunes and is the reason I even moved to WI in the first place, so had I never done that, she wouldn't be haunting me and making me miserable still. The weather is.......southern WI weather. Either be cold or don't be. Stop teasing me with Spring. I am done with Winter, but Winter isn't done with me. All the lakes (ALL OF THEM!!!!!) require boat access, so us shore bound guys are screwed. As I mentioned in the other thread, it seems as though WI is one of the ONLY states with LMB season. Packer fans. Brewer fans. Bubbler? Seriously? I don't understand is that? The beer is good, though. So are the friday fish fry's. Taxes aren't too bad.
  6. Yea, that IS ridiculous. But...I'm not one of "you guys". I am a FIB that just happens to live on the wrong side of the cheese curtain. I seriously despise everything about this vile state. I've been around, lived in a number of places, but WI is the worst so far.
  7. Ok. Thanks guys. VERY much appreciated.
  8. Wait a minute....so if I were to get a small jon boat (under 16 feet) and title it in MY name in Wisconsin....all I pay is the title, which is a max of $22, and that is if there isn't one already (transfer is $3.75). No registration necessary in WI? Yet, if I were to do it in IL, I would be robbed for between $100 and $200?
  9. I probably severely overestimate the thoroughness with which the DNR does their job on the water. I find myself rather paranoid. I seriously envision there to be gov't employees at every ramp checking papers and whatnot, as well as roving boat patrols. I really need to get my sea legs about me.
  10. I like the cut of your jib lol. I suppose I could, I just wanted to keep everything on the up and up, as legal as possible. Plus, like I said, this is all new to me and is a rather daunting task (one that he has placed on my shoulders). If I do it that way, do I need to let someone know I have returned it back once every 60 days? Does that need to be over night? Or is it more along the lines of just saying I did when the Warden asks? Nevermind. So then this way, I would need: title/registration for boat and.....title (no plates/registration) for trailer (if we go with a trailer)?
  11. Ouch. I guess I will lean even closer to a jon boat that we can toss in the back of the truck for now. We don't go on big bodies of water anyways.
  12. Again, thank you very much. What do you mean? edit: nvm. I see. It's bloody expensive.
  13. Thank you. I assume it would make the process much smoother if we get one with existing title/registration and just transfer it over, yes? Or is it easy enough if you get one where the seller indicates that they do not have the title/registration (bill of sale is good enough, right?)? It is also cheaper to renew as opposed to new, isn't it?
  14. Could someone help me with some info on what it takes to "legalize" a boat purchased via private sale? My father (lives in IL) and I are looking at getting a boat which would be stored at his house. It would most likely be under 16 ft (looking at 14ft jon boats) since that seems to be the cutoff. I have already looked at the DNR site, but it's not as clear as I would like it, or I am simply having trouble reading it. What I need to know: Insurance? Do boats need it? Title? Should it come with one that I just renew? (remember: 14 footer) Registration? Same as title? Trailer plates? Trailer insurance? I know this all sounds like "duh" stuff to yous guys, but I/we have never had this sort of stuff (boats/atv's/trailers even). Prices would be great, but more importantly is just finding out what I need. I can find out the price later.
  15. Or, more likely, cause them to burrow in deeper.
  16. So the conundrum is: post on a message board you frequent to see if anyone has ever had this issue and the people on here are only here to discuss fishing stuff or Contact the company to ask a question. As far as I have seen from internet folks, it is a lose lose situation. Had he contacted Mega Strike first, he is wasting the guys time when he could have done exactly what he did (or done a google search). Instead, he chooses to ask around first and gets lambasted by (some of) you guys. He made clear that he was not knocking the product as well as stating that he would continue to use it. Sheesh, relax you guys. The internetz are far too srs biziniss.
  17. This is my thought when taking a picture. I am saying "hey, look at this FISH I caught". Why would I want you lookin at my ugly mug instead of a beautiful fish? Also, what do I gain from making the fish appear larger? I may as well just photoshop a tarpon on the pic while I am at it. If I am worried about the legitimacy of how the size is perceived, they make scales and rulers.
  18. Ctrl + V is the keyboard shortcut for paste (assuming you are using Windows, that is)
  19. Not sure how "new" this is as my Veritas that I bought last year, on clearance at Dick's, has the guides "triple footed".

(snark incoming) Aww, boo hoo. I haven't even gotten out this year and it doesn't look like I will for quite some time. (snark exiting, thanks)
  21. I use one of http://www.berkley-fishing.com/products/tools-and-equipment/classics/tackle-bag-medium-powerbait'>these Berkley Tackle Bags
  22. Welcome home. Hopefully we will start getting some of the weather those southern boys keep bragging about and rubbing in our faces so we can actually get out and do what we all keep talking about. Fishing, I think it's called?
  23. I am having this dilemma as we speak since I am in the middle of placing an order with Siebert but I can only get a few. There are waaaayyyy too many choices lol.

Indeed. Just a slight bit of inconsequential info I may or may not have forgotten. But seriously, it's a good way to catch the elusive "wood-mouth bass". You pros have probably forgotten the species.

Hooksets are free. But honestly, it comes with experience. I am pretty much in the same boat as you because I can't get out very often. I fish jigs in heavy grass, from shore AND casting as far as I can, so I really have to pay extremely close attention because dragging a big ole jig through tons of grass, then trying to feel that slight tick ends up in A LOT of empty hooksets. Yes, people can say "when you feel this, set the hook", but somehow that has to translate into real world experience. Short of someone holding the rod with you while a fish bites and saying "there, that is a bite not a log", there isn't much someone can say. This is one of those rare instances I will advocate gear that costs a bit more. When fishing baits that stay in contact with the bottom, sensitivity is paramount. You don't realize it until you have quality gear, too. When I made the switch to braid, it was like night and day. Then, I got a better rod and it was like going from nighttime in North Korea to mid day Manhattan. I have gotten to the point where if I am with someone, I won't claim it's a fish until I can actually see the fish. My first time out last year, I was reeling what I was certain was a large log only to have a good size catfish break free right at the surface. I looked at my dad and said "Huh, I guess it was a fish afterall". Take this with a grain of salt, as with any information I post. I am open to being VERY wrong.
