  1. So not to hijack the thread but how exactly does an increased free spool time due to a bearing change directly translate to on water performance? Sorry the the ignorance, but it wouldn't be the same as say putting in a lighter spool would it? Would it be complimentary if used with a lighter spool? Bought a couple beat up curado es locally and just looks like they need a decent cleaning and possibly some new bearings.
  2. I generally use two trailers most of the time. If I want something with a larger profile I'll use a Hula Grub or twin tailed grub. If the bite is super tough I'll throw on a skinny bear signature pro series jig with a power team lures craw douvre. Sometimes that smaller less active presentation is just the ticket! Green pumpkin and black blue seem to work everywhere!
  3. You'll love it! I have an ALX deputy sitting here begging me for more time on the water but I cant seem to put my KLX down. Caught my PB on it this morning as a matter of fact.
  4. Spend a touch more and grab a klx. They're always on sale and you can find a 25 dollar promo code.
  5. Been wondering this myself. Can get a new scorpion XT for the same price as a new chronarch. Also I believe the scorpion is listed as slightly lighter than the 50 series chronarch. Can anyone shed some light on this?
  6. Dont always have to match trailer to jig. Some days different colors work some days similar colors work. Best way to learn is to get out there and do it! Last time I went fishing all I did was throw a jig because I wanted to increase my confidence with it.
  7. Totally agree! Do NOT buy into the hype regarding fluoro vs mono IMO. Fluoro most assuredly stretches. The biggest difference I've found is some lines handle abrasion resistance better than others. Make sure you're comparing line diameter though and not pound rating. Many times companies will put a pound rating but the line diameter will be of a thickness more closely relating to other brands higher lb test. I've always wondered why fluoro is so much more expensive as well. Big fan of Yo-zuri hybrid here. Price/performance its amazing.
  8. Big fan of the omens here. Lately though I've been pushing the KLX. With the discount cash off codes available coupled with their daily and weekly specials you can get a superior rod for a small amount more.
  9. I have the dobyns DX745 and so far have been underwhelmed. I'd take a STRONG look @ the KLX series or an ALX rod... My KLX is every bit as good as my dx744. (For some reason I like my 744 way more than my 745). No need to spend a huge amount of money for a fantastic rod. I will say the dobyns 60 dollar replacement is amazing though. (havent used it just a nice option to protect your investment) If you do decide to go dobyns send me a pm and I'll give you some info.
  10. Sorry to hijack the thread but... Is the new Ci4 going to completely replace the Chronarch E or will they be @ 2 price points? Any word on if a new(er) curado replacement will be coming out? Just got a bnib chronarch 200e for a smoking deal... First shimano reel... Lets see what all the hype is about.
  11. Lot of information on this rod over at TT. Seems like a sweet rod! :-)
  12. I had an issue with my initial order. They sent me the wrong rod. Trey Kistler himself called me and made it right. I wasnt in to bass fishing when all the problems happened but I have read about them. So far my experience has been nothing but positive and I will continue to use their products as long as the customer service and quality stand up to the test of time. If anyone is interested in a similar rod I would highly recommend ALX rods. Another ridiculous value.
  13. Its the second one. I know it doesnt look like it. First one looks bigger. Matter of perspective I guess. it was BIG.
  14. First the TLDR for the lazies. This rod is EVERY BIT AS GOOD if not SLIGHTLY BETTER than my Dobyns DX744. Ordered a 7'3" KLX a few weeks a go and finally got some time on the water with it the past couple days. FIgured I'd give some impressions. Aesthetically this rod is very pleasy. I'm not a fan of blingy or flashy rods (then why do I own two DX dobyns? lol) and really like the clean understated look. The KLX fits this perfectly. All guides were aligned perfectly and no excess epoxy was used. There were no physical imperfections when I received the rod either. The split handle was easy to fish and provided good grip. It also paired well with the reel I used and it balanced very well. The sensitivity of this rod is AMAZING. You will feel everything trust me. Every branch, rock, stump, etc is clearly communicated. I could even tell when I was in the weeds which I usually struggle with and get a lot of false hook sets. The real test of this rod came on two fish... An 8.9lb flathead and a 20-30lb flathead. Both fish were caught on jigs while searching for bass. Never once did this rod feel outmatched and it truly shined in all scenarios. I think a lot of rod makers should take a hard look at this. I can honestly say you're getting the performance of a 300+ dollar rod for less than 200. Just got a couple of ALX rods in as well. Waiting to pair them with either a tatula or the new Ci4s but they seem to be the same trend as the klx IE high dollar performance with the high dollar price tag. Cant figure out where my phone saved the pic of the big cat to I'll try and find it.
  15. Has anyone actually handled one? Looks to offer a tremendous value but I remain skeptical. I'm also super curious about the new ardents.
  16. I'm a big fan of the ribbon hinge worm by power team lures. Its got a pretty unique action when compared to similar products.
  17. 300 on a combo can buy you some nice things. I'd buy a KLX or ALX rod and put it with a PQ or lews BB1 (Can be had for great deals on fleabay). Getting fantastic value out of the rod and reel.
  18. Love when you do these please keep it up! Cant wait to hear your thoughts on the tatula new chronarch.
  19. I've begun to learn that there is no such thing as too big. Wish I had a pic of the bass that tried to eat my 6xd last week lol.
  20. No better combo IMO than the PQ carbonlite.
  21. Just got off the water and used em. I buy the hype regarding these. I got hung up many times and was always able to get it back. Hooks set in top of the mouth. Real deal IMO.
  22. Could you swing 160ish? You could get a bass pro carbonlite rod and pro qualifier reel for right around there. Great combo! I started with it. Very under rated rod IMO.
  23. I havent had enough time fishing my DX744 and 745 to have concrete opinions of them but I'm underwhelmed currently. I have 2 alx rods that I'm hoping to take out next week that match up spec wise to the dobyns. Hope to have some better opinions then.
