  1. Been looking to expand my skirt material line up to include more rubber. Right now its 90% silicone. I've read some positive things about the bio silk material. I do have some of the flatline rubber from fishing skirts. Has anyone used both and can offer a quick comparison? Thanks!
  2. d**n those are some THICK skirts!
  3. Honestly I'll second the Cabela's recommendation. Its at least equal quality backed by Cabelas and its on sale all the time.
  4. I handled one the other day and walked away impressed. Very nice feeling reel. Would like to handle a type-r before I purchase one. I did find it a little wide.
  5. I too enjoy PTL lures but agree that they're a bit too pricey. I bought a ton on clearance a while back so I'm good for a long while though.
  6. Thats a great looking jig. I'll have to check out that bio silk as well.
  7. Nothing wrong with northstar jigs. I love the black series skirt mix of rubber and silicone. I still throw *** 90% of the time now, and as soon as they release their football series It'll probably go to 99%.
  8. *** is coming out with a football head design in the next few weeks as well. Cant wait.
  9. I've been debating doing this as well. Just scored an airbrush from Hobby Lobby on clearance. Was going to order some blanks from that same site. I need to email him first and see what kind of hooks and split rings he recommends to get true suspending lure. By the time I'm done changing hooks/split rings on a rick clunn knock off it pushes those baits to over 10 dollars as well so making my own would make sense in the long run.
  10. 48 jigs is nothing... I think my frist order from Northstar was around that. I'd take a look @ *** lures nujigs as well. I've just started ordering bare heads and adding skirts myself. If you buy skirts you'll notice an amazing similarity to the skirts some companies use... I'm sure they're ordered from the same source. 3/8oz seems to be the sweet spot for me. Tying your own skirt really lets you customize them exactly how you want as far as bulky profile etc.
  11. Nothing wrong with Siebert or Northstar. I've used both to great success. Might also want to take a look @ *** lures nujigs. Pretty much the only jig I throw anymore. Super resistant to snags, and the only jig that I've used that self rights itself so it almost never rolls on itside. As far as jig weights I'm partial to 3/8oz. This seems to be the sweet spot to me I'll fish it all the way down to 20ish feet of water. Any deeper and I'll normally upsize for better feel.
  12. Depends how much action I want. Rage trail products are great when you want a lot of action. Sometimes I'll throw a chigger craw if I want less action and a bit smaller profile.
  13. You definitely reach a point of diminishing returns VERY quickly when spending all that money. I've said it before but I'll say it again. My kistler KLX is every bit the rod my Dobyns DX744 is. I think with a lot of higher priced rods the price has a lot to do with support. The 60 dollar replacement offered by dobyns is pretty amazing!
  14. Went to my local hobby lobby to see if I could check out what they had. Unfortunately I didnt know they were closed on Sundays. I think I'm ready to pull the trigger, and it seems like Iwata stuff seems to be the most highly regarded. Hobby lobby online doesnt seem to have a ton of stuff online. I have found the revolution on ebay but I was wondering if there is an 'all in one' kit that includes brush and compressor you guys would recommend?
  15. Depends on if you want a lot of action or not. Lot of action rage craws are great. More subtle action I like chigger cras and PTL craws.
  16. As far as I'm concerned many fluoros and monos are VERY similar. You can see how similar in a test TT did a while ago. That being said there are some fluoros that IMO are true to the standard claims about that line. Most notably tatsu and IMO sunline sniper. However these are typically more expensive brands. I use yo-zuri hybrid for most everything unless I can find one of the aforementioned brands on sale.
  17. Totally agree fantastic rods, especially for 80 bucks!
  18. Gotta say they're great value. Love me some chigger craws if I want a more subtle presentation.
  19. Should read the test TT did. Many fluoros stretch similar amounts as mono. I really like yo zuri hybrid. Low stretch and good abrasion resistance and sensitivity.
  20. Hard to see but is something like that what you guys are referring to?
  21. Ah that makes sense and seems like it would be pretty easy to do as well.
  22. No problem I appreciate the help. I'm trying to get a shopping list of everything I'll need.
  23. I did mean two separate holes for two wire weed guards. I haven't purchased any molds yet so I'm having difficulty picturing some of the mods you guys are referring to. I'm especially curious to try this in a football jig application.
  24. Did a search here and tackle underground and couldnt find any specifics. Are there any molds available that feature double weed guards? I'd like to try my hand at pouring some arky and football style jigs with a double wire weed guard. Thank you.
  25. Just started making my own jig skirts. After messing around there must be an INSANE profit margin on this jig.
