  1. I am not a fan of KBF tournaments for various reasons that there is no need to discuss here. I wouldn't mind doing some local ones though if my schedule permits. I haven't done any in quite a few years so it would be fun to do one again.
  2. Taimen are an awesome fish for sure. Really there are a lot of fish i would like to catch. I still want to go out west and catch all the cutthroat species too. For now, with a 6 year old and an 8month old i'll stick to the local fish
  3. Peacock bass Goliath tiger fish Golden dorado Sea run brookies And all on the fly rod. I am really going to focus on getting a citation sized largemouth on my fly rod this year. Last year i started out strong but didn't stick with it long enough and went back to conventional gear in most situations. This year i hope to do a lot more night fishing and the fly rod, as long as the bats leave me alone, would work perfectly.
  4. That is the stand up seat deal? If it is, I messed with it in the store but it seemed like it would be in the way. It limits the adjustability of the seat and to be honest, I have owned my ATAK for 2 seasons and i have never felt the need for it. I would also think it would give something else for the wind to grab. All that being said, i have yet to try it and with the price tag, i'd rather spend that type of coin on other things fishing related.
  5. My 140 doesn't take on much water at all, no different than any other SOT i have owned or paddled extensively. The only scuppers i leave in are the ones in the front hatch because i will put my rain gear in there. I am about 195-200lbs for reference. As far as tracking goes, it does a nice job and is super stable, more stable than my old coosa or even my commander. I do know a lot of people get he rudder but I haven't felt the need for it. It also was designed and i'd say it succeeds in shedding wind. It sits pretty low in the water which is great for most times unless you venture into places that have bigger wave potential. As far as dislikes, the seat fastening system sucks. They may have made changes to it but if you are cartopping it, taking it on and off is a pain. I have a trailer now so i just leave it on all the time. It has gear tracks pretty much everywhere you would want them as well which makes rigging a breeze. I personally don't like track mounted rod holders so i went with flush mounts and the space behind the seat on the sides of the 140 allow for 6 total (3 on each side) to be installed. It is also a heavy boat but it is pretty manageable once you get your technique down. I used to load it on my old lifted jeep wrangler and while it wasn't the easiest thing in the world, it wasn't crazy hard. Other than that, it is a great boat. I can honestly say that this is the first boat that after owning for a year or two I haven't though about replacing it with the next new thing. It is well laid out, paddles 4mph with little effort and the flex pod is awesome. The seat is pretty comfortable and allows for a lot of adjustment. I did break a foot rest and replaced it with a cheaper non added version but i haven't noticed a difference. All in all, it is a great boat and i wouldn't hesitate to get a 120 or a 140 depending on your needs and the water you regularly fish. This was my first 14' boat and i was apprehensive at first but i will say that for the water i primarily fish, the longer length has not been an issue.
  6. What specifically are you asking about? You obviously have experience in a kayak so is there something specifically yo pare looking for as far as features etc... go? I own an ATAK 140 and i know many of the features are the same and i could comment on those but the paddling is going to be different. And yes, I did think before i responded....
  7. If you are looking for a mentee, I'm your man. I have experience in breaking stuff of all types and am looking to venture more into the fishing world.
  8. Woah, reviving an old thread huh A-Jay?
  9. Check the number in the package. I know on a lot of their soft plastics they give you a "Great" price but the quantity in each package is less. I know it happens with YUM brand baits but i never checked on the yamamoto
  10. add in a jika rig to the mix as well. In vegetation i have found it comes though cleaner than a texas rig in most cases.
  11. I am speaking of the bait styles more than the weight size used.
  12. I use shaky heads as a mor finesse presentation with baits that are generally straight tail. Texas rigged baits, the sky is the limit as far as baits go. Texas rigged baits are also more inherently weedless and slither through cover more easily. I think you can use a texas rig in pretty much every play as a shaky head but the reverse is not always true.
  13. I am a fan and as others have stated, the breaking strength is higher than it's rating. I have been using it in 6lb for my spinning rod setup used mainly for shaky heads and i have 15lb on moving bait and texas rig rods. I have zero complaints. I also will say use the line conditioner. I am not sure what it would be like without it because i have always used it but line management has never been an issue.
  14. One of my favorite days of the year....getting that extra hour of daylight after work is awesome.
  15. Definitely sounds like a good set up. I have toyed with the idea of trying to finagle my finances to get a torqueedo for the exact reasons you mentioned but i haven't been able to do it just yet
  16. Totally worth it....to me at least. Saves me from paddling over to check out an area and as far as images go, it is the same as if it was installed on any boat with the one caveat that paddling can create some "wave" on the image as the kayak rocks back and forth on a paddle stroke.
  17. polarized is polarized fro that perspective but you get the most advantage of that polarization with a higher quality lens. Distortion and clarity are definitive differences in lower end glasses compared to high end. There is also a large difference when you go from plastic to glass as well. I personally won't get a cheap pair again unless i have to and i have owned a lot of different brands and lens types.
  18. what he said....
  19. I don't think they are making nests yet but the spawn isn't a short window either. there will be early and late spawners every year. I'd be curious to see what water temps are on the lakes i normal fish because i went out last saturday to a lake with the deepest spot being about 5-6ft and surface temps peaked around 49. Either way, good looking fish!! go back and get her when she is fat
  20. I use both but primarily spinning in a MF action. I have used a casting rod for heavier jerk baits on what I would say is a light MH rod. I prefer your hybrid for both applications One exception is flukes where i prefer braid and spinning gear pretty much exclusively.
  21. Catch-Photograph-Release Most if not all kayak tourneys are length only. Weight doesn't matter
  22. Sous Vide is great but you don't get the crust that i know i like on a steak unless you cook it below temp and sear it. I am all about the reverse sear on any steak more than 1" thick. I also don't like any seasonings other than olive oil, salt and black pepper. You can get pretty much the same results as a Sous Vide method with a reverse sear. and the reverse sear works outstanding on thick pork chops and chicken breasts too. another thing yo can do is to cook your steaks frozen. it takes longer but the results are great. Oh and i also like to cook mine directly on the coals too...just brush them off and it is great. the moisture in the meat helps to prevent it from burning. And forget all the old wive's tale about the searing in the juice stuff....total falsehood there.
  23. I think that rod is one of the best rods in their lineup as far as the Mojo bass goes. IT will do what you would like it to do and do it well.
  24. I am more amazed at how people get all up in their feelings and resort to name calling over someone else questioning the ability to guess a fish's weight from a distance that is jumping when people can't even guess the weight accurately when holding it.... Get some thicker skin or catch the fish and prove me wrong.
  25. Video it and post it up. then you can prove us all wrong.
