  1. I have this same paddle and it is a good balance between price and functionality. I'd love to have high dollar paddle but reality is I would rather spend that coin on other things right now.
  2. I think it is funny when people get mad about people changing sponsors. I mean isn't it possible that there is more than one good line/lure/rod/reel/boat company out there?
  3. I am not good at these types of things and I am lucky to still have both my parents around but what i can say is that you will get through it. I'd also make sure you get that FJ and restore (if needed) it to how your dad would have wanted it and drive it, a lot I will be sure to send a few prayers your way.
  4. Lots of boats out there but in that price range yo are somewhat limited. You also have to consider the added cost of a PFD, Paddle and transportation of the kayak. All that aside, a tarpon 120, jackson cruise and a few others would fit the bill but you would have to go used. I would also recommend going to a demo days if possible and paddling as many as you can and while you wait for that, save some more cash, you won't be disappointed
  5. Nice feature. I wonder if can get mine up high enough that i can use it as a bullet point on my fishing resume
  6. I haven't bought one yet but i did get a stutter step with a gift card that after playing around with, looks like it could be a real good bait.
  7. Sierra trading post is where i get all my socks and i am partial to smart wool and icebreaker for my merino wool anything.
  8. I caught three last weekend in 42 degree water. One on a jig, one on a jerk bait and one on a crank bait.
  9. I don't like a net in my kayak but i know many like the leverage landing net for kayak use. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/YakAttack_Leverage_Landing_Net/descpage-LEVNET.html?from=basres For toothy critters where i fish i either grab them by the back of the head as was already mentioned or use my fish grippers.
  10. Merino wool is not synthetic wool. It is a specific wool from a particular type of sheep hence the name Merino. I'll take Merino wool over garbage old fashioned wool any day of the week and a synthetic blend over both of them. Definitely keep things as loose as you can to allow for blood flow. Keeping warm in the cold is doable but it takes some planning and semi-specialized gear. Changing socks is a good idea as well.
  11. cartopping a kayak is not about strength as much as it is about technique....i am 5'11" and loaded my ATAK which is 90lbs or so on top of my lifted wrangler without issues.
  12. Dry suits are solely for wind and water protection. All your insulations comes from what you wear underneath. As far as being comfortable goes, that is up to you. For me personally i would be fine but i also don't wear cotton anything in the winter especially when outside. You want something that traps more air for the insulation aspect like fleece.
  13. ok i see now. I was thinking more than the spool was misshapen or something. and yeah remove a washer and that will fix it
  14. i am not sure how a washer would help if line is being bunched in the back of the spool unless i am misunderstanding what you mean by the back. I am reading that as the side of the spool closest to the rod blank, not the top or bottom of the spool.
  15. Conference winners really don't mean much to me. The conferences are all differing levels of competitiveness. You can also lose one game and not win your conference based on scheduling more difficult teams. I want the best 4 teams, conference champ or not.
  16. yeah, we are gluttons for punishment....oh and don't need those pansy motors either lol
  17. After owning a few micro guide rods i have now come to realize that in a kayak, they are easier to manage and don't bang on stuff as often. All my rods are now micros and i don't think i will switch up anytime soon.
  18. I am right handed but use left hand retrieve baitcasters and have mine on the left side. It is where i have always used them so it works for me. I usually land my fish on that same side as well and haven't run into any issues with the trolley being on that side while landing fish.
  19. I know you had a rack but going through the doors was the issue. http://paddling.about.com/od/paddling101/ss/kayak_roof_rack.htm#showall This should help clarify what I was referring to.
  20. Very nice fish for sure. I will echo Darren and say wear a PFD in the cold at the very least. I have an A-rig that i rarely throw so i may just have to do it if i get out tomorrow.
  21. If you had a rack on there then there was something wrong with your fastening system or the bars are super close together. If you used ratchet straps through the doors while it was on a factory rack, then that was probably your issue. I have put many a canoe and kayak on factory racks and when properly secured I have never had a concern.
  22. I will say that foam blocks are fine and dandy but save up and get a rack, you will thank yourself later on and wonder why you didn't get it in the first place.
  23. I highly doubt they are american shad as they are an anadromous fish and if you are fishing in WV as per your profile location, i am 99% sure they don't migrate that far inland.
  24. While a jet boat is a specialized craft, it is great for fishing skinny water that only kayaks can get to. My dad has an inboard jet on his boat and going 50mph isn't an issue so i don't think speed is a concern. The only place they are really a problem is when idling in grassy areas as it can clog the intake. Other than that, they work the same other than hull shape differences. For someone who is a guide on the susky i'd bet it extends his season by a lot and allows for reaching areas he couldn't with a conventional prop driven boat.
  25. I do all my sunnie fishing with my fly rod. Nothing beats a slow sinking spider. IT is always fin to catch a bass while doing it as well
