  1. So i guess i'll look at it from the other side. If someone continues to ask me for a lower price after saying it is a fixed price and keeps asking then i would get ticked too. I got windows a few years ago and had multiple places line up to give estimates. The very first one who came in, I made it clear that he was the first and have three others lined up and will not be making a decision today so if he could please not ask me to buy today because the answer is no, it would save us some headache. He agreed and within about 10 minutes in he asked for the sale. I respectfully said no, and then reminded him that i was interested in his product but not the sale today and to not ask again. Fast forward another 20 minutes and on his third ask i basically laid into him and said look i asked you nicely a few times and you are disrespecting me and my family by continuing to ask. If you can't abide by what we agreed upon in the beginning then i will absolutely kick you out of my house and make sure that your company gets blasted in as many avenues as i can to reduce your sales and specifically your sales. So i guess in all that rambling i am saying that after the 2nd time he was firm in his price you should have said fine and walked away.
  2. If a homemade mount is worth the potential loss of the unit then i would go that route. For me, I want to know that it is solid and have no worries so i am using yakattak mounts.
  3. As long as someone is within the legal limits let them enjoy their catch and their meal.
  4. why not ask the guy who your picking the rod up from, I imagine they would know a spot yo can try out their handiwork.
  5. practice lifting and doing the motion. Loading and cartopping a kayak is more about technique than strength. I load by 85lb kayak on top of my wrangler (with a rack) with no issues. I would also invest in a rack system as that will lessen your chances of scratching a ton.
  6. Maybe I am alone on this one but if your 9 year old knocks out a kid and then runs to you while the person he hit is motionless on the field to give you a thumbs up then he is not the monster, you are for teaching him that was ok to cheer another kid's injury. As far as keeping score goes it can go both ways for me. My son played t ball and they didn't keep score officially but all the kids did, same for his first year of soccer. Now he is a year further along and they keep score and so it isn't a big deal. The first few years of playing a sport should be about learning about the game and instruction more than competition per se. That time will come later on but if they don't build a love for the game then there will be no later on. There are plenty of opportunities to learn about losing and winning.
  7. I was thinking about the yakima rack and roll too but that thing only has a 350lb weight limit with upgraded shocks and doesn't have the cage or floor other than buying a basket of some sort. The one advantage i saw with yakima was it being aluminum but other than that i think the sportsrig is a better product for my needs. With a little one on the way, having all my stuff on the trailer and ready to go will be nice when I have a few hours to get out. With all the options and shipping (which wasn't cheap) and a discount i got it was around $2600. I thought about the utility trailer route but i am not a fan. the suspensions on them aren't designed to carry lighter loads and i would have to fab up a bunch of things to make it work. if i need a trailer for primarily utility work and occasionally kayaks i would have went that route but mine is the exact opposite. I will use mine maybe 3-4 times a year for the home depot run or trip to the beach but for having a kayak, it will get used probably 50 times a year at least, if not more. I was looking for a specific item to do the job at hand and the roof rack on a wheels if you will, fit the bill.
  8. Last summer went the craigslist route and got a jet ski trailer that lasted me a few months before al later internal rust that i couldn't see decided to take it's life....liuckily i was at the boat ramp and not driving when the tongue decided to give way. Upon further inspection, there was a lot more rust than i saw originally and it wasn't worth repairing. Luckily for me I didn't have much invested in it so no big loss. Since hen I have been on the search for a new trailer to haul my kayak and serve for light utility duty and for trips to the beach etc.... Put my order in yesterday for one of these guys and cannot wait for it to get here It isn't cheap but i didn't want to have to buy another one down the road and the reviews on this one are stellar and that includes ones that are 10 years old and an older design. It can haul around 500lbs and the cage is removable so you can just have the bars. The floor also doesn't come standard but i figured would like to have that so i can haul gear on there. Should be here in about a week or two. Having the other trailer for the short time i did spoiled me on loading and unloading
  9. Trailer is the easiest way to go and doubles as storage when not fishing. makes it super easy to load and unload and get out on the water.
  10. Very nice job!! I am not a fan of running but i did break into the 4 minute mile category once. We had a gyn teacher in high school who made us run every day and he as talking smack to me cause i said i hated running, i don't get the point of running in a circle etc...he said fine, if you can run a mile in the 4 minute range you don't have to run the rest of the year. Well it took me about 2 months to get it done since i was already pretty close to being able to do it. I then had al the track coaches and cross country coaches asking me to run and i told them not a chance, I did it so I don;t have to run anymore...
  11. You're right, I am thinking of another tournament he won on the St John's river i believe.
  12. when he won the classic i believe it was the main bait too.
  13. I make a bunch of sauces depending on my mood but like slonezp said, there are so many good ones already out there that you can modify to make your own that the extra effort to make it from scratch isn't usually worth it to me
  14. I paddled both the lure and the ATAK before i bought my last kayak and the choice was easy for me. The ATAK got my hard earned money. I have owned many kayaks from many different brands and it offered the best for what i wanted to use it for. The flex pod was a huge deciding factor as it is great to set up and use for electronics. It is a bit heavy but i have gotten my technique down so loading it on top of my wrangler isn't that bad, especially since i took off the front hatch cover, seems to balance better that way. I felt the ATAK was more table than the Lure but both are darn stable. I still feel that the ATAK is the easiest kayak i have been in or owned to stand up in though and the huge cockpit area is great for fly fishing. I don't think you will be upset with either purchase.
  15. 6lb diameter braid for me. Lass forever and gets baits deeper due to the smaller diameter.
  16. the transducer doesn't have to be on the bottom, it just has to be under water and with a side imaging you obviously need a clear shot to the side of the transducer as well, so i would think your normal transom mount would work as long as you are conscious of it being back there.
  17. Just use a spinning rod instead, makes it a lot easier
  18. Good luck. Nothing like chasing your dreams, hopefully it all works out.
  19. if you think this is odd, do a quick search on the king's grant lawsuit in Virginia.... I get someone being upset over it if they bought it and the understanding was that it was a private waterway.
  20. Seems fair to me. If i go to Target and buy something and i bought it on sale and want to swap out the item for a similar but different model, i expect to pay the difference just like if i lost the receipt i would expect to only get a refund or credit of the lowest sale price going back a reasonable amount of time.
  21. Haven't fished there in a few years so i'll be interested to see how you do and what others say. I do know there are (were) some big fish in there the last time i was there but I usually fish the upper lake but i have heard the lower lake is better...
  22. Clunn has been relevant for a long time.....the classic isn't the only tournament of the year and to say you move it so someone is relevant just shows how limited the skills may be.
  23. Clunn came up real big today....he has always been my favorite angler so hopefully he can pull off the win.
  24. I am not sure if i can come up with a wrong way but there are definitely ways i prefer more than others.
