  1. Think about it this way. In a kayak you are already low to the water and your rod tip is where you would be if standing in a conventional boat. In essence your rod tip is in the same position and essentially doing the same motion. Whether you are moving your rod tip down or to the side, the bait doesn't know the difference, it is just the line being pulled. Position your kayak so that the line is pulling the direction you want and it will be all good. The other option is buy a kayak you can stand up in if it is that much of a concern.
  2. i have owned many kayaks over the years and my last purchase i went out close to a dozen times before i started mounting accessories. I carry a lot of gear but i keep my rigging simple, less to go wrong and less to get in the way.
  3. I haven't changed any of my gear or techniques because i am in a kayak. Sure some are a little different but they are all doable, especially if you are able to stand. I use rods from 6'6" up to 9' with no issues.
  4. go for it. I am going to turn 40 this year and after 10+ years working as a process manager for a large bank, I started teaching and will be finishing up my first year in about 6 weeks. is it easy, hell no. So i enjoy my "job" a lot more, hell yes!!!
  5. what are you trying to accomplish with said accessories? Pretty much anything you want is out there so if you have a problem yo are trying to solve it would be a good starting point for recommendations.
  6. my dad had the hullavator and it worked great. Only had the lift the kayak to around waist height i believe. I haven't used the other ones.
  7. @Wayne P. posted something on another thread about this but i don't have the link handy. Once i get home i will post up the link if nobody else beats me to it.
  8. get a smaller jet boat and you will be golden. No need for a riverpro for smaller waters. Or you could always get one of these too. I have yet to see one in person but i have heard lots of good reports about them. http://www.soloskiff.com/
  9. i cut my grass whenever i feel like it but it is rarely before 8. I figure my closest neighbor likes to start his harley and let it warm up for about 30 minutes whenever he rides and those hours are all over the map. And on a side note, aren't harley's air cooled and it probably not be the best idea to let them warm up for that length of time? Oh, and if a person complains about me cutting my grass when i decide to cut it, I would smile and say ok not a problem, when would you be available to come cut it then.
  10. too bad it is a mail in rebate......i always forget to do them lol
  11. what does doubling the chart speed accomplish in this situation?
  12. save up money, buy a kayak to get you off the bank or find another spot.
  13. I will echo some of the other posts. Yes you can do it and no you shouldn't since it is illegal in all the states i know of. Here in Virginia they ask you for purchase price and then you pay tax on that. Here we are also blessed to have personal property tax which is levied by the county but they don't care what you paid for it, they base it on blue book value and you get that lovely bill in the mail every year.
  14. I have been using shimano baitcasters for a while and have stuck with the citica models for my budget and they have done well. I have G and E models and i actually like the G models better but I have no concerns with either after quite a few years of hard use in my kayak. I do know that they all performed much better after i sent them to DVT for servicing.

I like a lot of different square bills but am not a fan of teh KVD models, for some reason they don't produce well for me. I like the rapala squuare bills of various flavors, the rick clunn and my recent favorite are the sebile baits that i picked up o na whim cause they were havign that buy one get one free sale. I think there are a lot out there that are good performers.
  16. I am by no means an expert but smaller diameter trees are going to cast a shadow that may not be as noticeable as you would think. I am starting to train my eye to see things and it is getting easier.
  17. I hate mail in rebates.....lol
  18. Nice review and i recently have the need to replace some line on a few baitcasters that originally had braid but it is due for a change....maybe i should try it too
  19. If you want to do the screw lock deal just buy some of those keeper deals and thread it in and run your hook through it. Personally, i don't nose hook too often in lakes as they get snagged a lot more often. Now on rivers, nose hooking a 3-4" stick bait and dead sticking it through likely spots is always a producer for me. I also have gotten a few bags of a custom job where they double dipped the nose with clear plastic for durability and it worked flawlessly
  20. I have a crate and a bunch of plano boxes so i will be of no help lol it does look like you have the bases covered.
  21. or buy a cheaper worm that has the tail you want. I like grubs and paddle tails for trailers myself
  22. I did think about this when i was running into snafus. I then figured well, nothing was structurally wrong and having worked in production type environments before, I know things happen. Now if something was off center or parts didn't fit correctly, I would have without a doubt sent it back and not had a second thought. Since the customer service was so good I have zero issues that they will resolve anything that happens in the future. As far as the tongue goes, it looks a lot longer than it really is because of the small cargo area. I needed it for the length of my kayak. I could probably get away without but it would be tight for sure.
  23. I have floated the upper James many times for smallies and it is a great time for sure. I have learned my lesson to watch water flow levels and usually i prefer to put in downstream of where i want to fish and paddle upstream and float back, much easier after fishing all day
  24. I actually have 3" PVC pipe running about 4 1/2 feet underneath the boat attached to the cross bars. I would think that would be ok for support. They make a bar extender kit but it doesn't work with the cage. I am sure after a few trips with the trailer i'll dial in what exactly i want and how to rig it. I want to make a lockable box too for gear so that is next on the list of stuff to make or buy for sure.
