  1. You chose your words wisely and your point was clear. Focusing on the families of the victims was the intent and it was achieved in my mind. So for that, nice job
  2. Mounting accessories on any kayak is easy, especially if you use track systems. Don't mount anything permanently though until you get out a bunch times. My last boat i purchased i went out probably a dozen times before mounting anything and that was my 6th boat i think so far.... I would recommend paddling any kayak if at all possible.
  3. maybe, maybe not, we really don't know that for a fact but ultimately at this point it doesn't matter which is the point. Innocent people were killed.
  4. This thread is an example of what is the problem really. A post about a tragedy gets turned into some sort of political agenda either for or against the weapon of choice. bottom line is people were killed for reasons unbeknownst to any of us and it could have been worse......my prayers go out to those families who lost someone in this act of domestic terrorism.
  5. I don't think i have ever heard that question asked before and i have no experience with that but i would think front wheel drive would be better on ramps than rear wheel as you would have more weight over the drive wheels. I am sure others with actual experience will chime in eventually though....
  6. nah, I live in central VA so i hit the james but mainly i fish for largemouth in the lakes around here. I do make a few trips a year to meet my dad on the susky though in central PA....
  7. search the DGIF website...there are quite a few places to fish nearby and if you drive about an hour, you will hit a lot more.
  8. Here in VA you do need to register anything motorized that is driven on public roads. You don't need a license though if it is one of hte slow moving vehicle deals. And you also need to register a kayak or any boat in VA that has any propulsion other than your body.
  9. MSRP has one word in it that will let you know....it is suggested. Personally, i wouldn't but i am no collector or purveyor of high end fishing gear either.
  10. same tail as horny toads and have saved me during a frog bite when i ran out out on more than one occcasion
  11. nice fish. It always amazes me at how many am allies i catch that have a companion with them all the way up to the boat.
  12. I love catching bowfin....glad to hear you had a good time and everyone caught some fish. I am hoping to get out somewhere tomorrow and hopefully feel a pull on my line as well
  13. craigslist and there are quite a few Facebook groups that sell kayaks. If you price it right, it will sell fast.
  14. 6lb diameter braid tied direct for me. If you aren't a line watcher though you can miss some fish but i'll take the no stretch properties of braid any day for this technique. I tend to throw weightless plastics into heavier cover and braid helps me get them out more quickly. And one more thing to add, i don't throw wacky so mine are all weightless, weedless rigged.
  15. Is there some specific reason you should have the title? I have never heard of anyone carrying a title around with them on any type of vehicle.
  16. I am a kayak fisherman and have been for years but that is not an apples to apples comparison at all. Sure top of the line to top of the line but that is where it ends. For what i have in my kayak and trailer i could have bought a nice aluminum boat but I wanted a kayak. I don't take people out fishing with me other than my son and he can fit in there with me for now. I don't have to register it or worry about maintenance. I'll probably kayak fish until it becomes to hard on me physically to do so or if i want to take out more than just my son, i may get a aluminum boat. Bottom line is that if money is a concern then it will be hard to beat a kayak as you have no additional expense after the initial purchase.
  17. My local shop I trust the owner and his wife without question. The owner fishes the FLW as a co angler and has done pretty well. He also does well in the local tournaments. He has never once tried to sell me anything. I ask and he recommends, makes life easy for both of us.
  18. Do it. When i worked in the call center for a large bank i received an award that is given to about 25 call center agents out of about 10k i the country. Fast forward to the awards ceremony....has about 300 of the big wigs there plus family and crap. It happened that my director was handing out the awards and when i got mine i gave him a huge hug and said i couldn't do it without you man....he lost it and so did everyone else. It didn't hurt that his office was right near my cube and he was a cool guy for sure..
  19. Rudders are also a crutch for not learning proper form....keep that in mind. It is also another thing to purchase and worry about working or not and if you are dependent on a rudder and it breaks for some reason, is it going to ruin your fishing day?
  20. Another thing i really like when working flukes is using braid on my spinning set up. When i switched to braid i found my hookup percentage was increased and line twist is a non-factor. Given the nature of the working of the bait and the slack that is in the setup, the no stretch helps in hooksets. I also am able to see the subtle takes easier as well.
  21. that is a thing of beauty @A-Jay
  22. seems long for a river kayak to me. I like my river kayaks no longer than 12' and tops on the list are maneuverability, stability and a comfy seat. There are a lot of good boats out there and out of the three kayaks i have owned for river specific use, i still fall back to my coosa (wish i never sold it actually). It has a good balance between stability and maneuverability. I didn't like it for flatwater as much because it did tend to get pushed around in the wind more than I like. I would say the top river kayaks these days are the ride 115 and the coosa. The beauty though is there are a lot of good boats out there so go to a demo days and test paddle as many as you can and the decision will be a lot easier to make.
  23. spinning for me. I didn't like using casting gear for the technique, same for hard jerkbaits, feels more natural to use spinning.
