Got out for a little night fishing...
with a soon to be 2 week old baby and a 6 year old in the house my fishing time is somewhat limited. Luckily for me, my wonderful wife said she had no issues with me going out fishing last night. I loaded up and was on the water right at 9:15. There was still some ambient light but it was getting dark pretty quickly. I decided to throw a frog around the lilly pad edges to see what was going on. about 30 minutes in had a hit but missed him. I threw back to the same spot and he hit again. I am thinking it's probably a pickerel because i don't see bass hit that many times usually but apparently night fishing is a different game. On the third hit I got a solid hookup and realized it was not a pickerel....it was my first citation sized (length) bass of the year. Of course the one time i want my scale i don't have it but hey, that's how it goes. I continue fishing till about 2:00am and land one more fish on the frog....another citation sized fish. I did lose a couple fish on flukes and caught one little one on a creature bait. All in all it was good evening and got my first two citations of the year. I am gonna try my best to get out again tonight if i can get another hall pass lol

Live vs Artificial
Chucking out a worm/minnow etc on a bobber is what most people think of when they are throwing live bait. This is true for many but the nuances of fishing live bait are actually pretty complicated. To be a great live bait fisherman you still need to find the fish and then present your bait in a way that will let it get eaten. In the saltwater world live bait is the norm and not frowned upon but for some reason in freshwater it is, which i don't understand. All that being said, I will occasionally throw live bait out or live line a sunny that i caught just to see what happens. I will also use it in the winter time to give me a few more things to look at while i let my jerkbait/jig shakey head sit for a minute between twitches. Funny thing is that this winter my artificials outperformed the live bait.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?
How is it a smart move? I mean his team could have made the finals but they choked down the stretch, partly because of his play. And as far as long term or short term, this is in essence a one year deal so there is no long term ramifications. I think it is a punk move too, how someone who gets beat by a team then goes and joins that same team is mind boggling to me.

that is what they said this year after they set the regular season win record. I don't think GS is built for playoffs really as you can't depend on shooters to always be hot. Adding Durant does give them a scorer though which will help when the shooters go cold.
- Top water baits that do not require standing to fish.

it will peak this year and next because of the money and then you are gonna see player contracts that were handed out really hurt teams and it will settle back down. While i don't like it per se, it is capitalism at it's finest...let these dudes play wherever they want for however much they can get. I know if someone told me they would offer me a teaching job down in the outer banks making 5 times my salary now i would be gone.....

I have to agree that this is the weakest move i have seen in all of sports. He had GSW on the ropes and could have been in the finals and instead of being hungry and wanting to go after them again next year, he goes to their team instead. I'll make my call now that Westbrook and Durant are both in LA after next season.... you started to see the physical play get to them in the WCF and in the finals. I agree that percentages came in to play but at the same time something changed. GSW had a tough time against teams with length and physical play. It will be interesting to see what transpires next season though

Sorry but when you can stay put and make more money and you go elsewhere for less money then it isn't just about the money. And to say to take the money out of sport doesn't even make sense. Free agency is capitalism at it's finest and that is why the league put measures in place so that the original team can offer more money and more years than other teams. NBA has max deals too in case you didn't know so other than OKC, if you had the space to could offer the same money. Guys made a lot more money than KD on other teams which he could have demanded if it was just about the money but but wasn't just about the money...

Are pickeral and bass friends?
i have caught them in the same laydown before and in the same lilly pad field so i imagine they can coexist.

He actually brings something to the warriors that they need, a scorer. they have shooters that people were blown back by two years ago but then teams settled down and figured some things out. And besides that, shooters aren't always going to be hot and bottom line is they are a soft team and when teams are physical agains them they have issues. KD is a scorer, not just a shooter so he will fit in just fine. And it is not about the money at all because he could have made more if he stayed in OKC....i personally find this a punk move. I mean they had the warriors down 3-1 and choked it away so they were obviously close. Westbrook is going to go off next season though and then be a FA.....

Favorite Co-Poly Line ?
i just started using co-poly line and am using yozuri and i really like it. A few squirts of KVD line conditioner and no issues with coiling or memory. Also seems way stronger than the lb test on the label.

Line breaking on hookset
not too often for me unless it was a toothy critter which frequent my lakes....d**n chain pickerel bite me off a few times every trip but i am ok with it cause it forces me to retie lol

Line breaking on hookset
yeah it seems like a pop with sharp hooks is enough. I know i have an adjustment period when i switch between lines cause of the no stretch properties of braid.
-
Line breaking on hookset
10lb braid is what, 2lb mono equivalent? if so braid doesn't have a great shock resistance. I have snapped 40lb braid on a cast when i get a backlash. It also doesn't take much to nick it up and pop later on.

Can a Bass Live Long With a Swallowed Soft Plastic? Observations of Bass Tagging
This is far from proof that it was your worm that stayed in that bass all that time. There are 9 months of variables involved here and just because the bass spit up one of the most popular worm styles and colors is by no means an indication that it was your worm that it coughed up. I highly doubt that a worm of that size in that size of bass would allow for food to be digested and just sit still without trying to pass through the digestive system. Could i be wrong, sure but no way to tell without more identifying information on the worm in question. All that being said, the tagging program seems pretty cool...

I am thinking of investing in a good fishing kayak.
that boat is like the cream of the crop in the Kayak world...i do wonder how it would handle solo though and i know it has to weigh 150lbs at least but with a trailer, probably not a concern.

@Darren. nailed the one big thing i missed. Don't rig anything for a while. My most recent boat i went out probably a doze times before i started rigging things up.

wow lots of questions but i'l do my best...but before i give my advice i will say go test paddle as many boats as you can. Find a shop having a demo days and have at it... Standing and fishing is not a problem. there are probably 10+ boats that have that ability. Taking the girlfriend in the kayak, well not as many options, especially ones that will then handle well when being used solo. Foot pedal options are great but pricey. you are looking at almost 3k to start with one of those boats and then still have to factor in a PFD and paddle. Pedal drive boats are also heavy so transporting is something to consider as well. Pretty much every kayak has the ability to add a trolling motor, either with a unit designed for the boat like the wilderness systems ATAK or via alternative methods from various manufacturers. Same goes for fish finders...you can mount one on pretty much any kayak. Most boats have the ability to store a lot of gear if you use a crate of some sort and rod holders. I have 6 flush mounted rod holders in my boat and a crate and can take more gear than i really need Transportation of the boat is another issue but you can get a rack system and cartop just about any boat. I cartopped every kayak i have owned on my jeep wrangler up until my last one when i bought a trailer (which is the way to go in my opinion). This is where weight and boat balance comes into play. There are boats from pretty much every manufacturer that meets your needs, wilderness systems, native, hobie, jackson to name a few off the top of my head. So take a look at all of them and get out and paddle if at all possible. I am currently paddling a wilderness systems ATAK and it is a great boat that provides stability without giving up much speed. It is kind of heavy but before i had my trailer it was manageable to car top. Hope my incoherent rambling helps a little bit but feel free to ask more questions as we do have quite a few kayak anglers on board here that can provide varying perspectives .

Fishing will probably be on hold for a while...
Well as some of you already know my wife was pregnant with our second baby with a dude date of July 11th. Well this little firecracker decided she didn't want to wait anymore so yesterday, Pepper, decided to make her grand appearance. 8lb 8oz of beautiful baby girl. I have never been a gun owner but i am seriously contemplating starting now.... Our son is so excited to be a big brother too. when he came into the room to see her for the first time he walked in all slow and said SHE IS ADORABLE then proceeded to sig to her cause she was fussing some. It actually made some of the nurses tear up and they later told me it was the sweetest thing they had seen from a big brother in all their years working there. Oh, and he was no happy at all when it was time to give her a shot

Anyone fish diascund reservoir?
A buddy of mine was out there and caught a few. It was his first trip so he may not know what normal water levels are like. It is one of my favorite places to fish but i haven't been out there this year yet.

I don't usually burn but this keeps things hydrated and prevents peeling. Drinks lots of water and ant inflammatory are your friend.
