  1. Nothing is going to stop that guy from doing what he is doing, short of somebody violating his rights. What he's doing is no different from the pickup truck full of illegal immigrants siene-netting a lake or pond and keeping every single fish of every type and size that they net - an all too common sight in NoVa (Goose Creek Resevoir and areas around Algonquin Park have been ruined by fishing of this type). It is abhorrent. Somebody should snap his rods, slash his float tube and dump his tackle box in the lake.
  2. No idea, I just grabbed it from Google Images. I went to the photographer's site, and it is a real pic. Apparently it is a way to harvest a DNA Sample from Whales. Not hunting, but doing actual scientific research. Here is the caption from the photo:
  3. I thought the name chuck woolery was a joke - you know, a fuzzy/wooly lure you're supposed to chuck out there. But it's really Chuck Woolery on the package. What the heck is the host of Love Connection doing hocking lures? They look like junk. I'll probably have to buy a half dozen... j/k
  4. Whenever I'm down in FL, I buy as many Charlies Worms as I can afford. A great local manufacturer. The worms are pretty bouyant, come in a few different styles, and have a berry scent. Great baits.

  6. Florida Grouper is great, I can't imagine a Vacation down there without a grouper sandwich. I also had rockfish recently and was very surprised how tasty it was. Meat was very firm too.
  7. I don't use worm rattles very much, but I used to a while ago. I found that I lost too many, so I would use a small piece of scotch tape and tape the rattle just above my bullet weight. This worked to save more rattles, and also effectively pegged my weight. The scotch tape held up for more casts than putting the weight inside the worm would. Every once in a while, pull it off and retape it.
  8. Right now it's the Bagley Bang-o Spin Tail, but I'm saving my dollars to grab some of those Megabass scream X's. Once I get those, I'm thinking they'll be my favorite.
  9. Has anyone tried the Ultimate LureSaver split rings? They are little titanium split rings, that when used properly (which involves matching up the correct test line with the correct test split ring) will release the hook from the lure should you snag your lure on the bottom. Apparently they do not release when a fish is on, only when you are dead snagged and tug on the line a certain way. They seem like a good idea for a bank fisherman like me that cannot resist throwing a his megabass lures into the water. I was wondering if a simple lure retriever would be a wiser investment, or maybe go with both... You can check the Ultimate LureSaver out at the cabela's webpage.
  10. Dunno, they all seem to get hung up pretty much the same for me. Just make sure you have a heavy pound test, and a lure retriever.

I'm not buying them till they go on sale at Gander Mountain. Regular price 7.49 - 7.99 for a package of plastics? No sir.
  12. I throw a Lunker City Salad Spoon, very similar in theory to a buzzing frog, and their version of pumpkin is a very murky muddy looking green, and does very well. I think any dark color will do pretty well. I worry more about color when there is less slop. The more slop there is, I think only shape and sound/vibration really matter.
  13. LOL, I have discovered the same thing in the lake I fish, I've gotten a couple of nice xraps, some renegade jerks, and a couple others. FREE!
  14. I've been fishing this for a month now, and have caught a ton of bass on it. Only problem is not one of them has been even a pound, about a dozen and a half dinks. A few have been only slightly bigger than the lure. I use it in multiple ponds lakes, and one river from NoVa to the WV Panhandle. I use the ghost shad pattern and the chartreuse/purple back patterns. I try to use varying retrieves, fast, slow, deep, medium depth, etc. Can't get a decent fish to take it. Is it the wrong time of year for it, or should I just stick with it?
  15. Some ponds in my area are already getting clogged with this really fine, stringy algae that my brother and I have always just called Angel Hair Algae. In some areas you can't cast anything without dragging a pound of the gloppy crud out. Is there any trick to avoid this stuff, or to make a lure come through it somehow?
  16. No offense taken. In theory I am against bed fishing too. Problem is, I am a world-class rationalizer and have very little will power when it comes to fishing. I couldn't help but throw lures at that bass. I feel guilty as heck now.
  17. I would go right to the rattletrap and then switch over to a bandit 200.
  18. It is possible. Some soft plastics will melt together with other hard plastics, such as the surface of a tackle box. Folks call it worm burns. They can ruin crankbaits and tackle boxes. To be safe, I would check it every so often, and whenever possible, keep your soft plastics in the baggie they came in.
  19. Just got my first Anthrax lure from Ebay. The seller had typed Anthlax instead of Anthrax, so I got it for relatively cheap ($14) -for a megabass lure anyway, that's pretty cheap. Can't wait to chuck this upside down goofy looking lure into the water. Any tips?
  20. I have and will, but not consistantly enough.
  21. I think it was a 'she' too. The bottom was pretty rocky right there, and the tail was not bloody in the least which is why I initially though it had to be a female. There were no eggs on the bed yet, it was only about a foot and a half of water, and it was pretty clear. I'm going this evening to take a peek to see if she, or a male is on the bed. I'm crossing my fingers.
  22. There's 1 on Ebay - looks kinda in rough shape though: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Herbs-Dilly-Gold-Metal-Spinning-Lure_W0QQitemZ160109619196QQihZ006QQcategoryZ794QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  23. I caught a nice 4 pounder on a bed yesterday, the only bed I saw on the small lake I fished, on a shaky head yellow/black fleck bass assassin. She was right at my feet for a half-hour before I noticed her, it took me another half hour to catch her... I knew a bass would lip a lure and move it, but had never actually seen it before last night. She must have moved a dozen different lures before the shaky head got her. After catching her, and releasing her immediately, she did not return to the bed. I left and came back two hours later, and she still had not returned. With the size of her gut, I would bet that she hadn't spawned yet, and there was no male hanging around. Will she go back? If not, will she find another bed? Will she drop her eggs somewhere? I tried to get her back in the water as fast as I could, but now worry that I screwed it all up.
  24. Most people here would rather tie on an actual Banjo... Really though it is no better than any other mediocre bait. It will catch some fish, but it should never be considered the BE ALL END ALL of fishing baits like the commercials say. It is just OK. You can get a lot more for your money by spreading it around to a few different styles of fishing lures - go buy some soft plastic worms, a couple of cranks, a buzz and a spinner for the money you would spend on a Banjo Fishing kit and you'll do much better.
