  1. This fish was caught in a public lake that any joe can fish unlike my other entry that was a semi private lake :'(. This little # was caught in RayRoberts in Texas. TX record is 18.18 this fish went 8.11. 8.11/18.18= .4460 X 100 = 44.60 Don't hate the player...hate the game. Happy Releasing! H.G.
  2. Thanks guys - was pretty stoked when I drilled that 8! Beast - I don't know if there are boats to rent - only one marina on the lake - I am sure with a little I-net work you can find it (I doubt they rent boats because I have never seen one when down there). The lake has some good bass. 4's and 5's are fairly common and they go up from there. Let me know if you are going to drag your boat down and I will PM you with some info to help you. It's a big lake with tons of tree's and NO boat lanes cut or marked. H.G.
  3. Returned this evening from our annual RayBob buddy fish. I left Thursday morning got on the lake about 1:00. Lake was still up a couple/three feet. Looked totally different to me. Had a great trip and much fun was had and even a few fish were caught Day 1 we found Bass on beds and in the short grass. I am sure there are other ways to fish the lake but I am a plastic pitching fool so we target pitched deep into the brush, goodie bush and flooded cedars It was a lot of fun- but as you know a lot of casts per fish. Day 1 was our best numbers wise. 9 fish boated and several that came unbuttoned and quite a fish we just saw but didn't stick. We found a few bass on beds and mananged both of those 1 ate right off the bat on the Grandebass Mutant and #2 we worked on for about 45 minutes (with a break)- after 8 changes she ended up eating a Manns hard nose lizard - the one with the chartruse head. Fishing bedded bass IMO can be challanging and addictive! Largest 6.1 That evening/night we had a big front roll through - I will add that ran into Danny Golden (RayBob guide) several times on land and water and he was very supportive and generous with information. I appreciated it alot and if I ever have the extra money - I will fish with him someday! Great guy. Day 2 - was COLD with some wind. I wiped ice off my boat in the twilight and was in full cold weather battle gear. Far cry from shorts and t-shirts the day before. Danny said he thought the bass would stick short and we found several fish up there and a few in 4' of water. Still tough day - boated 7 - largest 5.7 Day 3 - AWESOME DAY - light wind - sunny (a little cool in the am) - I couldn't find the fish shallow - found them deepr in 4-5 of water. Pitched any cover I could see and then some I couldn't . Fish were hard to come by again! Boated 7 - largest 5.11 Day 4 - Today - fished sun up till 1:00 in the afternoon. Maybe one of the best days I have had on the lake. Caught fish right off the bat - by 9:30 I had a 5, some shorts and an 8.11 in the boat! -my best Ray Roberts fish! She didn't have the big belly but she was really looooong. Ended the day at 1:00 after fishing for a bedded fish off and on for an hour - finally got her to eat a little tiki monkey. It was quite satisfying! Home in Wichita by 7:00 pm wanting more...lots more ;D Daddy Likey Ray Roberts! That's the trip in a nutshell minus KU dominated last night, a few beers after fishing and - my purchase at the local Fina station - you will see it on my nogin for a couple of these pictures. Let me just say - don't hate the player - hate the game! My boat partner's best day 2 fish: We caught quite a few of these: The Bed fish I spent a loooong time on: Miss 8.11 - HU$TLER All in all a great trip with a dash of everything. If you have a chance to fish this lake give it a try. It's a good lake with some big fish and lots of trees Like a little fork minus the people. Happy Releasing! H.G. As always - free that fighter!
  4. I like the Power Pro but I have issues fishing it in wood when the wind is blowing. When the wind blows and you are setting plastics right against the bases it seems to always 'catch' or 'stick' to the tree! Then I am trying to get it off all the time. It seems like velco! I switched to 17 and 20 mono and the stuff just slides off and right down the base. I still have some PP on a few rods but all my pitching rods are now rigged with mono or floro.
  5. Thanks guys! Looks like they are drawing a lot of water - - anybody have opinions on what the Bass think of that on RR? Happy Releasing!
  6. Leaving in the early morning for TX! Ray Roberts is the destination. I am worthless at work today! You know the day before you leave on a trip you have been looking forward to since the last time you left! Been spooling reels, trying to keep the monkey at bay (done a very poor job of that), new batteries, cleaned up the boat and spending way to much time vicarously fishing on this forum (hey it helps!). Wish us luck! I will report back on Monday! Hoping you guys catch a good one! Happy Releasing, H.G.
  7. I would also look at the Revo S or the Quantum Code. I have both and like them both. The Revo I used most of last year and it's been a great reel. I just picked up the Code and used it once and liked it but it's not 'proven' yet.
  8. I have quite a few Falcons and am quite fond of them. The new Cara T7's are real real nice for the $$. I have several Lowriders, my extendable Flipping is one of them and it has a lot of back! IMHO- great rods, made in the U.S.A., not machine wrapped, great warranty, great people, and made in the ol midwest!
  9. SWEET! I just received an order from you guys! Can you say........ [move]~RATTLESNAKE~[/move] Happy Releasing, H.G.
  10. Popeye - you may want to consider a little larger boat w/18 being the smallest. Just my opinion but those 16's will limit you to where and when plus almost eliminates #3 angler. I don't think you can go wrong- like said above - maybe skip the nitro that old. IMO - a well cared for engine of any of those makes will make you happy as long as you stay 18 or larger. I have had Champion (still do) and Stratos and haven't an issue with either. Good luck man! Just find a good engine that's my best advice. Happy Releasing! H.G.
  11. WOW Thanks David! May I say: YOU ARE THE MAN! We will see if this thing gets any additonal steam but right now, I don't think she is going to take off as a BR only tournament (no offense to anyone! You have been wonderful) When I get back from TX I am going to have lunch with a member of the council and maybe we can create an open tournament to benefit those guys (BR members will be the first notified of course)! B.S.A. is a great organization that needs our support! Happy Releasing, H.G.
  12. Welcome! You are on the right track with the beetle spin. They catch anything that swims!
  13. We have one. Kind of like a scaled down Cabela's or Bass Pro. Good selction but not everything (or close to everything) better than Wally or most local bait shops. Prices are usually MSR. Nice to have - I use ours farily often.
  14. Now the answers are piling in. My .02 I like the old lake dams. I would position and drag my bait off the top down both sides. Carolina would be my starting point. I am a sucker for deep creek channels with good cover. In the summer I would fish them fast until I found a bite and slow down. Good luck man and Happy Releasing, H.G.
  15. Awesome! Treat her nice and you will become long friends!
  16. I checked them out in his shop the other day! I like the concept and I will buy one soon to try it out. He has been perfecting the spiral wrap since most of us were in diapers ;D!
  17. Shoot it man! Great product and fairly priced! Revo S
  18. Welcome to the B O A T club. You have been around long enough but...be sure to have the motor totally checked out! and You know what boat means......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
  19. Congratulations! That is fantastic!
  20. I bit and bought two escalades. I haven't fished with them yet. I did cast and pitch them around in the yard. One of them won't engage everytime with a turn of the handle :-/. Other than that they seemed ok for a 60 dollar reel. I will be fishing with them this weekend and if you haven't purchased yet I will try to find this thread and post my opinion.
  21. Guys, it's in your court. I know it is some heavy coin and I totally understand. But I am not going to present this to the council unless I have some backing here. No big deal either way I am happy either way. Happy Releasing, H.G.
