  1. If I could I would go somewhere else. If I was stuck there I would use a black and blue swim jig.
  2. Start them young. Little ones just want to catch fish, don't worry if it's not bass. Keep the trips short, when their done, it's over. Don't fish yourself, help them have some success. Bring lots of goodies they like. Bring lots of juices, and drinks kids like. Don't get upset if they have an accident, things will happen! Leave the expensive stuff home. Keep everything simple, don't try to teach a 5 year old a baitcaster. Life jackets always while in the boat, don't scare the crap out of them with your 300 Merc! I learned most of this from practical experience.
  3. When it comes to TX’s they are out to win and will only use what puts them in the best position to win! Floro does that for them!
  4. Its. Hard to tell if I get more bites with Floro, but I think so. One thing I can tell you the hookup rate is better. I detect more Initial bites, the hook set is better, little line stretch, and I usually out fish those using other lines. Not all floro’s are the same quality. Trilene profession grade is what I use, love it. I have used it for 10 years.
  5. Otters will effect a small body of water and the fish population. Don’t kill them or you could be faced with a healthy fine. They will kill the gar and carp also probably before the bass. Easier to catch.
  6. I sure hope they found the problem and your baby is fixed. I have been through this before before I repowered. The other problem is once you lose confidence in an engine, once you turn it off out on the lake you always have the nagging question, are you going to start again. It got so bad I only ran into the wind so the boat would drift back toward the ramps with the help of the T/M. I did this for years after losing confidence, the only answer was a new Yamaha repower, and a feeling you can go anywhere, anytime, with no problema!
  7. With my plastics, its Floro all day long except in heavy thick Vegetation where I use heavy braid. I love Floro, it sinks, super sensitive, strong for its size, and abrasive resistant. Not all Floros are the same quality, I use Trilene Professional Grade. Expensive but worth the price. I have tried about 10 other brands and always go back.
  8. Regardless of what some bass fisherman want to believe, big bass are not smart, and not smarter then smaller ones. There are just a lot more smaller ones that out number the big old girls. Bass have small thinking portions of the brain, and rely on instincts programed through millions of years of survival. They react to stimuli in the environment and certain environmental conditions. They do have larger sections of brain that support detecting stimuli in the water. It's up to the fisherman to understand these conditions, and make a presentation that will trigger a bite. Bass are not smart, some fisherman just are smarter then others!
  9. Expensive gear does not buy you bites or landed fish. The important thing is the line, hook, and the angler. For years I used a 5’6 « rod, and a zebco 20/20 for light top water. The combo would cast a light lure a mile, no back lash or over runs, easy jerk bait jerking all day. Caught thousands of bass on a small Zara spook, or rapala #9. Cheap and out cast most on the market!
  10. I think it depends on the mood of the bass. Sometimes it will startle them and they scatter. Then if in an aggressive feeding mood, or protective mood, it may draw a reaction bite, as a bait splashes in the water. It really depends on the fish, conditions, and seasonal patterns. After making a cast I usually let it settle before moving the bait at all.
  11. The time was Noon, I saw a bass chasing bait against a limestone wall along an everglades canal. That fish was 11.4 and it was over twenty years ago. I used a weightless zoom fluke thrown into the mix, and the fight was on. It had been a reasonable slow day all morning, with bluebird sky, and no wind. You just never know when it will happen!?
  12. No, I haven’t fished it recently but it has been consistant the past six times I fished it over a six year span. I have always been there in feb or March over that span. If it were closer to me I would fish it more often. Still the best rental deal around.
  13. Once you finalize your trip, make reservation for the tracker they book up quickly. Then PM me and I will give you a run down on the lake, what to use that works for me, and hot locations on the lake. There are only 6 trackers on the lake and no other traffic. There is also a typo map on line of the lake, so you will know the drop-offs, shallow flats, and run off areas. I don't think you will be disappointed with this lake. You can also fish from the shore even after the rental is over. We went to a national football coaching clinic in Orlando every year and would fish the lake 2 or 3 mornings and then go to the clinic. It was always the highlight of the trip.
  14. The best deal in the country is Turkey Lake in Orlando Florida. I half day rental is 25 dollars for a Tracker with trolling motor. The lake is limited access, catch and release only and has some quality bass. It is right next to Universal Studios and part of the Orlando Park System. You will need a reservation for boat rental. I have fished it six times and always caught quality bass. There are also RV spots to rent, and some cabin rentals in the park. If you choose to go I will give you some fishing tips. BPS supplies the Trackers.
  15. We too have all kinds of Algae problems with Okeechobee, the everglades, and red tide coast lines. Most of this is do to fertilizers, and run off from big sugar and all the development in Central Florida south. Very sad what has been happening to these pristine water ways. The problem could be fixed, but expensive. We can fix now, or it will cost a lot more later.
  16. Some of us old timers are just challenged by the technology!
  17. I seldom even look at fishing expectations. I go when I can, regardless of what some chart says! I just don't care, you still need to figure the conditions out for that day. That's fishing for you.
  18. There is nothing better then sharing a fishing experience with a good friend!
  19. Used to use a snagless Sally with a piece of rabbit fur. Hard to find these days.
  20. The goal is the same as the last 40 years. Have as much fun as possible with friends, and do it as much as possible.
  21. When I'm fishing on a tough day, I will always go to my confidence baits, slow down, down size, and methodically fish areas that look like they should produce. Things I will not do, is run and gun, and keep switching baits that I don't already have a track record fishing. You can't catch while you rod is laying on the deck of the boat. Keep it simple STUPID, and don't over think it. Grind it out and good things will usually happen. Keep your bait wet and in the most likely strike zone!
  22. X2 and happy new year, may a PB be in the near future!
  23. The first spot looks very close to a ramp in that first pic. If it is that close its probably well know to many if it is a honey hole.
  24. I used to fish L67 a lot from the 41 side. From US 41 I would run up L67 to the cuts in the three pines area. These cuts always produced big time. It was just too far a run from Holiday. Have a great Holiday Season.
  25. Your just Superman! Lol
