  1. Monday 1/25/16, Alligator Alley, 10:00-2:00, sunny, NE wind 6MPH,water clear, temp 65*, Water Temp 60*. Went to the Alley MM39 north side. Got a late start to let them warm up and become active. The bit was tough but I did manage to catch some nice bass deep on a zoom finesses worm. Big fish today were 4 and 5 pounds. Spinnerbait, big worm, jig got no action. The 4"senko, and finesses worm were the only bait drawing any attention. It was a beautiful day, and I was the only boat in the canal.
  2. Such a sad state of affairs. I'm sure he was look forward to a wonderful day with nature and a low life had another plan. You just never know what could happen these days. Even our police are targets. Conceal carry is looking better and better. God bless his family and loved ones during this difficult time. I am so sorry for their loss.
  3. Good move Ron. I want to welcome you to Florida.
  4. Orlando has a little jewel in Turkey Lake next to universal studio. It is a city park, with big bass and limited access, and catch and release only. You can also rent a tracker with a charged trolling motor, for a half day for $25. Only 6 boats a day on the lake. Don't miss hitting this place. Also lots of bank fishing spots.
  5. If you have a truck, or rugged vehicle, go out to the Holey Lands , up 27 to the Broward/Palm Beach line. From 27 go west, down the two lane paved road until it turns to a gravel road. Continue west another 7 miles and then look for areas with weed beds, culvert pipes, and unusual cuts into the canal. Normally you will catch a bunch of bass and have an entertaining day. You have 30 miles or more, of lonely canals to fish. Go on Google Earth and check out all the possibilities. You also may see all types of wildlife, native and exotic. If its a warm day wear boots.
  6. Yes Disney has plenty of big fish. Don't miss out on Turkey Lake right next to Universal. It has boats to rent really cheap and lots of big fish. A Tracker rental is 25 dollars for a half day. All catch and release. Only six boats a day. I rent every time I stay for a few days.
  7. I will give you a few simple key points when starting out. 1). Start with your plastics and learn how to rig them correctly. 2).Be a line watcher, any changes or movement take up slack and set the hook. 3).Use the least amount of weight to get the job done. More wind, deeper water more weight. 4).When things really get tough, down size and slow down. 5). Always ask yourself what were you doing when that fish hit? Was the bait falling, was I retrieving the bait, was it sitting still, did I jerk it. Just adjust your game plan from there.
  8. Here in Florida the Season never closes. Nothing better then winter fishing down here. Another great thing about Florida is at 65 you NEVER need a freshwater license. It doesn't get any better then that!
  9. Great time, good fishing with friends, fun, and enjoyable. Hope to do it again this year, nothing else to be said!
  10. Big black ribbon tail worms, a black swimbait like an Gambler EZ swimmer. Warmer weather, a black frog, black buzzbait or a big jointed black Arbogast jitterbug. Black puts out the best contrast against the sky from below the water. I have not done it for years, I like my sleep. Lol
  11. Flipping, I just can't get into it!
  12. Bassman, I have fished it from the boat and the bank several times.. There is a lot of bank to fish, and all is accessible, except the RV Camping area. From the bank I would fish the lake edge where the canals intersect with the main lake. I have always caught fish over where the RV park guard gate is located. I once caught three right at the big culvert the road goes over. Fish slow and texas rigged, senkos worms and creature baits. The fish will be deep. Good luck and let us know how you do.
  13. Saturday 1/16/16, 7:00 - 11:00, Sunny, water temp 69^, clarity light stain, wind 5 NNE. Went out this morning to Alligator Alley with Steve Johnson. The fog was heavy this morning and we sat at the rest area until it lifted. We then ran to the bridge area and began fishing the cut between the two canals. Bass were tight to the pilings. Several keeper bass were caught in this area. We then moved to the north canal and fished the road side, and fished back to the ramp area. The bass were not chasing baits, all bites were deep and very subtle. The only way to detect a bite was when you moved the bait, you could feel some weight on the line. Most bass were caught on 4" stick-o's, trick worms and zoom centipedes. Hollow body frogs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits got no results. Most bass were deep and you had to fish very slow. We ended up with 11 caught, most were keeper size with the largest at 2.5 lbs. It was a great day to be out in the glades.
  14. Drove down the Sawgrass Expressway today, the flood gates at the end of the Sawgrass east canal were wide open so they are moving a lot of water out of the recreation area. With current the fish will get more active especially where the flats hit the canal, Sawgrass may be a good choice as long as the water is moving. let us know how you do.
  15. I have had a friend that was fishing 50 yards ahead of us when the two of them were in the front scream like a 5 year old. A wm had climbed up the motor and in the back of the boat. The two of them used rods to get it out the boat. i have had a snake follow my boat and I had to step up the TM speed to out run it. Followed for about 30 yards.
  16. When things really get tough , down size and slow down. Target the drop offs and depth changes. Works for me often in Weston.
  17. Holey land is all about current. Find some current from one of the many pump stations and big fish will hang around in close proximity. The place totally changes when the pumps are on.
  18. Rodman is a dangerous place to run around if you don't know where you are going. Lots of stumps and down trees. Be careful!
  19. Thanks Glen for all your hard work. The success of this site is directly do to the leadership at the top. You have created a great site that will continue for years to come.
  20. I have fished Ida about 20 times over the last 20 years. A rattle trap, and white spinnerbait in the main lake has produced for both peacocks and large mouth. My main area is in the canal just north of the ramps on the west side of the lake. With the high walls of the bank this might be a good area with a north wind. I usually use 4" senkos, trick worms, and speed worms in the shallow canal. If this canal is muddy, go through Lake Eden and run up the north canal and let the wind blow you back toward Lake Ida. This canal has a sand bottom and stays a lot cleaner then the east canal. Always catch fish offl the docks along the side canals. Good luck.
  21. Thanks Glen for taking the time to do this. You run a first class site!
  22. Too much thought, I fish to clear my mind and just react to nature!
  23. There are lots of spots at the parks and ramp areas all along the perimeter of the lake. You will not hit the main lake but you will hit the rim canal and some minor water ways that feed into the lake. Wear your snake boots, always good to be prepared.
  24. By far adjusting to environment changes is always the toughest part of the game. The most injoyable part is just being out there with nature.
  25. For hot south florida weather, I personally love Frogg Toggs because they breath and relatively inexpensive. I have worn out a few pair, but can put them on in summer and not die from the heat. May not be ideal for colder climates but great for the tropics.
