  1. I can easily slow down a reel to fish cranks if I'm using a high gear reel. However you can't substitute the torque power of a low gear reel when using resestence lures like deep diving cranks. Even adding a longer handle will only help it a bit.
  2. It's too bad the GL2 is a sub par rod otherwise a Scorpion and GL2 setup would look killer!
  3. If you're running 10lbs then line capacity is no issue with the 50. I run 20lb braid and to me it's is the most versatile reel in my line up. If running braid I really think this is the MOST versatile reel made. I just can't compliment this reel enough. On one of my setups I'm using the 50e as a cranking reel. Shallow to medium divers. It can handle 5/8oz cranks diving around 12 ft and be finesse enough to throw shad raps #5 at 3/16oz. I don't crank a lot so I only have one cranking rod. I chose a GL2 MHM cranking rod as my all around rod. Enough back bone for square bill and ripping lipless cranks out of grass and hopefully be able to cast light cranks. At first I had trouble dialing my two really good reels to throw 3/16 and 1/4oz cranks. The reels were a T3 1016 and a Chronarch ci4+. I mean those two reels are knows to be great casters but I think my rod was the real factor in why I had trouble. Then I switched to my 51e and wow, I am able to cast 3/16 shad raps much better! So a MHM rod with a 51e may be the best all around cranking setup if you are not going deep divers. I have another setup I use the 50e for punching 1/2 oz to 1oz punch weights. I was worried at first being it was meant to be a semi finesse reel but the 50e has the guts and power unlike most finesse reels. Unlike the Daiwas I have, their small reels just doesn't seem right with braid and heavy weights. I believe the 50e is a hybrid. I will add a longer handle for next season on this setup to get more leverage though just because. It may not be the best punch reel but it can handle it. I have not had any issues at all. And yes, the 50 series is smoother and cast further than the 200 series. Waiting patiently for a Curado I 50...tick tock tick tock.

Haha I think many of us gear enthusiast who are in our 20's to 30's was once a car enthusiast too. In 1998 I swapped a B16 SIR motor into my rust bucket CRX. Man that thing could fly, or at least it was fast to me lol. Everyone wanted to race me until I sprayed 75 shot. Then I blew the motor lol. When I first got into serious bass fishing and I started hearing all this JDM talk I was like wow even in fishing? Anyways back on topic, MOST of the time getting parts from Japan through their EMS shipping is faster than most US shops unless something odd happens at customs. I wouldn't hesitate ordering from a reputable japan shop.
  5. And yes its on bank but really you need to wade. To get to spots you need to walk on knee high water and some spots you are in the water.
  6. Yes river. This area stays open sometimes year round but last winter was very cold and it froze up in Jan. I used live bait lol. They are very picky this time of the year. Drop shot 1/4 oz weight and let it flow with current. These river smallies fight like a tank. The 4lb smallie I thought I accidentally caught a carp! Love smallie because unlike LMB they fight until the end.
  7. Sold it that's all. Needed money to fix a boat. Had to sacrifice a few reels.
  8. Was a slow day but 5 very quality fish. Farewell to my Steez with a SV spool. Was great the 2 times I used it. 2lb 5 oz 3lb 3lb 1oz 3lb 5 oz 3lb 15oz (technically 4lb 1oz but picture was taken when he shook )
  9. Anything that flaps is a good plastic top water lure. My buddies uses havoc pit boss and I use rage craws. Really works well rigging it weed less and burn it over weeds. I use Zoom horny toad hooks and the hookup ratio is so much better than a hollow body frog, not that it'll take over a hollow body frog. They have their time.
  10. I know......I look at that site every day hoping it's still available lol. There things I need to buy first before I can splurge on that reel.
  11. My goal is to get a Steez SV or a Megabass Zonda Hedgehog. Man those are two pretty reels. I will fish it so it won't be shelf queens but I won't take them out during tournaments. I already have a Steez with a SV spool but I want the real one for all those SV accent colors lol. Now to find a rod that matches.....lol.
  12. I started off cranking with flouro since that was the "text book" line. Using a true cranking rod I just couldn't get used to the feel although I understood the reason for flouro and moderate cranking rods. This year I switched to using braid and wow I will never go back. I can feel the crank and almost everything it touches, even vegetation. My lipless crank/square bill setup I have confidence in now ripping out of grass with braid. I have noticed losing more fish on braid. I hope the rod will dictate that aspect of it. Of all my setups none has mono, one has flouro, 2 have braid with a flouro leader, and the rest are straight braid.
  13. The best thing comes to those who wait..... Funny story with my breathable wader purchase a few minutes ago at Cabelas. I talked to another manager and showed him the guarantee policy and showed him a quick Google search online that customers had their wader covered and he agree that as long as it's not torn to pieces and leaks in seams they'll honor it or prorate my money back. Then I bought a set that I saw online. If bought separately the wader and boot would cost $256. If bought in a package/set it'll cost $205 but it was online only. The staff said they will honor it at the check out. As I got to the checkout I showed my phone of the package online. The clerk was a new guy and got a manager to come help do the price adjustment. She had trouble too. Then another manager came and she figured it out. She was in a hurry and told another clerk how to adjust the price. Get this, cabela had a buy over $200 and get $50 rebate card. I was in a hurry to pick up my wife and they had taken about 8 minutes now. The newest lady started to scan and adjust the price. It went down from 256 to 204, and then she scanned the rebate to knock off $50. My total was 154 plus tax. I was puzzled at first since rebate said to use on next purchase only. Oh well I was in a hurry. Then shE gave me two reciepts and I walked out. As I got to the car I looked and I got a reciept and another 50 rebate. I thought of being a honest customer but after 10 minutes of waiting, and having to do my research to dispute the guarantee/warranty I said the heck with it. I drove away smiling.
  14. Scott, where did you get this? I want to go directly to them and show them this next time. The funny thing is they said even though wader is consider clothing, they are really footwear. Well this actually say clothing and footwear.
  15. Also I went to 3 different sporting good store and they all frown upon the thought of breathables even under layers of appropriate clothing. I am 100% sure they are just sale staff suggesting by the books and not actual knowledge. I'm sure you guys know what you are talking about and actually used it with success. Just like how I never ask them about fishing reels. Most staffs aren't enthusiast and don't really know the reels. They just know fishing in general and suggest general ideas.
  16. Scott F, I went to Cabelas and ask about their warranty and ask if it was under apparel and they told me no. It's only covered by a 1 year warranty but it's limited. Basically if the hole is not a leak from defect. The worker went to ask his manager about the warranty policy too. I think tomorrow I will just call another Cabelas and ask the manager directly.
  17. No I do litterly mean water pressure as in squeezing your shin and calf super tight. This is with those cheap plastic waders you can get for $50 or so. Without a wader you don't feel it at all. I don't think I'm the only one feeling this effect as all my buddies hate plastic waders because of the cold and water pressure. Maybe your breathables cancles it out like neoprene waders.
  18. And also I'll use it for smelting in lake superior in the early spring.
  19. Hummmm well I've used the cheap plastic waders and the neoprene. The cheap plastic ones when at waiste level you can feel the water pressure. It's bareable but something I don't really like.
  20. Wow I looked at a breathable. You guys sure it can keep me warm in MN winters? Lol. Also does beeathable hold up against water pressure? Especially around your shin/lower leg area?
  21. Hummmm never heard of breathables but I will get that. I'm at Gander now and their selection sucks lol. I maY have to hit up Cabela for their warranty.
  22. The Promax was my first baitcaster. It is a very decent reel for the price. I also picked up a used pro qualifier for $60 and that reel was better than the promax. I know we're all tight on money but I'm pretty sure if you have that much passion in fishing, judging my your posts, youll end up selling the max series for something better. Try to jump up to the 75 range if you can for a used citica E or a pro Qualifier.
  23. Thanks for all the advise guys. Love this forum. Anymore suggestion is welcome. I will buy one this weekend and I feel like I'm already on the right path. I'll look for duck hunting waders first or at least I know what to avoid. Now I just need to decide on built in boots or stocking socks one. I have used waders with built in boots before and I feel very clumsy walking around in them. Thats why I was wondering if the ones where you have to buy shoes will feel more natural and have better grips? It's not really rocky where I'll be wadering.
  24. Air Temps 20-40 degrees. Water temp...well let's just say winter up north lol. Some river doesn't freeze over. So I do need something that I will sweat in or I'll freeze up.
  25. I hope this is the right section for this thread. I'm in the market for a nice neoprene wader or whatever kind that insulates heat. I'll be doing some wader fishing for smallies and need one that last. I'm debating if I should go with the ones with a rubber boots attached or one without and you have to buy a wader boot that slips on the outside. I would like to find one or set under $300 but hoping to find one or set around $200. Suggestions and pros and cons of each type of waders. I will be in cold water.
