  1. IMO get the new Curado I and pair it up with the most talked about $100 rods on bassresource. You will enjoy this combo for many years to come. A suggestion is to tell us your price point for a combo and we can give you a better idea what to look for.
  2. Once upon a time I questioned the 50's ability but no more. The 50 can do anything the 200 can and more! The only limiting factor is the line capacity but it still holds plenty especially if using small diameter braid. The other difference is I believe the handle is shorter on the 50 so it may feel a bit less powerful on resistance bait. IMO and many people I know, the 50 is smoother of the two. The 50 cast better with light lures and even IMO heavy lures. I was going to make a thread to give props on the 50 but decided not to. With all these new Shimano reels coming out the 50 kind of got forgotten. I had mine sitting without a rod for a while. After adding hedgehog bearings and trying it out as my shallow diving crank reel I'm in love again! This reel cast amazing with 3/8oz and even lighter shad raps. Even threw some 1/2oz jigs and it was amazing. No wonder I won't sell the reel. Once Shimano comes with a 50 Curado I I'm all over it.
  3. Thanks everyone. I almost swayed to a 735 but now I think I'll just get a 736 and call it a day. Now split grip or full cork? Hummmmm
  4. Hummmm maybe I should be looking into a 735c. I'll fish around pads but it's not like I'm fishing around florida mats.............
  5. May work but doesn't mean it's the best option.
  6. How heave is the lure you are tossing? If it's too light and you are using a MH rod then I can see this happening. With you being new to baitcast if you are using 3/8 and up you shouldn't be having issues. If you are new and using 1/4 oz or less then you accuracy will suffer until you get it right and even then you rod is limiting you from accuracy on light lures.
  7. Looking for a frog rod to fish heavy pads. Here's what I'm looking for........ - Balance, I don't have huge popeye forearms so I don't want to be worn down after a long day of fishing. - Cost, must be under $250, would love the Daiwa XBD but too rich for me. - Must be 6 power rating as I'm fishing heavy pads with this - Must be 7'3 or longer I was thinking the Dobyns 736c but still looking for reviews on it. Any suggestion please add in. Thanks.
  8. Regular action for Jigs? That's definitely not for me. I will stick to a fast action.
  9. I've always thought Daiwas terminology of "regular" action was very close to a "moderate" action rod. Yes or No?
  10. Been using my 201HG for almost a week now and I'm loving it. Have a second reel that I don't have a rod for yet so it's just sitting pretty for a week or two.
  11. I don't either but remember the reason how Shimano could get the Curado i under $200 is to produce it in Malaysia. If it was produced in Japan labor cost would be more. I'm not one to knock on non made in Japan reels but Shimano had to get this Curado right after the G debacle. I honestly think it should have been Chronarch Ci4+ at $250 and a Japan made Curado with aluminum drag star, titanium guides, priced at $200. I could live with that.
  12. I'd take the Ci4+ since it is lighter, looks better, and I would think cast light lures a bit better but I haven't tested casting between the two. The Curado I is a beast though. After fishing it for two days I feel like I will keep these curado i's for a long time. The aluminum body feels really rigid and it is very smooth. You can't go wrong with either but if you factor in $180 vs $270, if money is tight go with the Curado. I'm sure you'll be happy either way. It's a good time to be a Shimano buyer these days.
  13. Yes that rod will work. MH is plenty strong if your not fishing around pads. Use braid though.
  14. I tried their 17lb on my Daiwa Steez even though they are recommended for spinning reels just because I was throwing lures around 1/4 or slightly under. Hoping to get distance with it. Well let me say I didn't make any comparision but I felt the line was pretty good for casting. However managing it was a nightmare. Felt like plastic to me and line that doesn't get used much near the end of a long cast was really bad. It seems like the line needs to be broken in but only the first 10 feet or so could get broken in. Then after that it seemed stiff and hard. So on a long cast I kept having trouble with little over runs. Even when I didn't seems like the layer below my top layer wanted to pop out. It's hard to explain but I'll just say I pulled off that expensive line and trashed it. Now I have half a spool left sitting pretty in my cabinet. If you're asking for suggestion on spinning reels then...disregard my comments lol.
  15. Just order it's free shipping. Make it two day shipping for $5. Not even a long wait.
  16. You'll be just fine with the ci4+ and weightless wacky rigs. I would recommend a 7-7'2 medium action rod though.
  17. 20lb PP high vis yellow for me. Just this past saturday I was messing around with a leader and without a leader. Fish didn't seem to care if I had a leader or not. I can't say it doesn't matter, but it can't hurt having one. The laziness in me wants to keep testing without a leader though.
  18. The safety pin idea is clever! However I'm still looking to get the Trokar box. I don't know why everytime I type in Trokar my autocorrect changes it to Trojan lol.
  19. Anyone used this hook case before? I'm tired of my hooks falling between dividers or keeping them in bags. This one looks simple yet very useful. I feel like I can store all my go to hooks here and refill when needed. Looking for opinions on these if you've seen them or used them. Thanks.
  20. That's what I thought at first but then they started talking about 8:1 ratio. Only the T3B and MX has ratio that fast. So I wasn't sure I guess.
  21. The T3 Ballistics handles doesn't support bearings. It is riveted so you'll need to get a new handle if you want to add bearings. The worm shaft also has a bushing only but can be replaced with a bearing.
  22. In the past year I've sold all my reels and upgraded to more expensive reels exept I kept one reel, my Chronarch 51E. I just love this reel. I know it's not at the level of the core 50 but it is smoother than my Chronarch 200's that I sold off. I just flushed, relubed, and took off the anti reverse paw and I'm in love with this little reel again. I throw weightless plastic well on a medium action rod but now is being used as my jig reel pitching tight areas. It is one of the more versitle reels out there. People always are a concern of how much line it can hold but people can't even cast 100 yards anyways. Either go 8-12 pound lighter line or go braid and you can fill plenty of lines. The 200's may be more popular and outsells the 50 but people who owns both usually like the 50 more.
  23. Save a bit more then try this setup. T3 Ballistic for $110 and a SV spool for $100. You should be able to cast light lures very well. I have a SV spool on the way. Can't wait!
  24. Daiwa T3 LH. I'm looking for a 95mm handle since I will be using this reel for shallow cranking. Just want to give myself a little extra leverage and torque cranking even though I'm just throwing mostly 3/8ths 3-8 feet divers. So if I was to order the RH Lews CF handle I would need those parts you listed to make it work from Lews or Diawa?
