  1. This debate rivals lure colors
  2. Call Dicks and see if they are going to have a Curado G on clearance any time soon. The one here had it at $89 three weeks ago. That would be a way better reel than those to Abu's you mentioned, even with it being a G. My first baitcast was a promax. It was ok, but nothing to rave about.
  3. OO Mod are you going to be testing the Curado I basically stock out of the box? Or will you flush the bearings?
  4. Lewser...lolololololol haven't heard that one yet
  5. Ok that does it. As soon as Shimano quits playing games and send all their shipments of reels instead of teasing us with small shipments I'm getting three!!!
  6. I am going to switch all my 20lbs PP to yellow high vis. Does anyone know the yellow fades quicker in the regular or the slick?
  7. The smart fishermens/women knows there's a time and place for every quality crafted lure. However I find it good for fishing in general when someone wins the classic like how Randy won it by just smashing hogs after hogs on just about every cast to come from behind and win. Probably any red color crank diving 4-8 feet would have done the same on that hot spot but guess what, we will never really know right. What we know is that DT6 killed it, not the Livingston. Let the little guys run to the tackle store and buy out those DT6's. It's good for the sport and good for the industry. If they believe, let them, because confidence is a big part of fishing and this makes it fun.
  8. Call me a party pooper but I don't believe his statement at all. First of all he had a gopro so it was visible he was using a DT6 in Ike's demon. They were big ones too. Then he said he culled 4 fish using the Livingston. Until I see footage of him landing 5 pounders with the Livngston, and not just one, I'm not buying the story. He's no idiot, he knows pro anglers seasons are dependent on their sponsors. He had to help Livingston lure otherwise that would have been the ultimate insult to his sponsor, him winning with a different lure and the way how he won it too on day 3!

I’m not familiar with rod building but was wondering how complex would it be to add a hook keeper to rods? I had a Phenix Recon1 and the hook keeper is on the bottom near the butt. I cannot stand it being there and sold the rod as silly as that may sound. I may end up buying a used Daiwa Zillion rod but I believe they have no hook keeper at all. The last thing I want is to use the top of my reel as a hook keeper. I also don’t feel confident using the closest guide to the reel as a hook keeper just in case of accidents. Anyone knows a thing or two about this please help me out. Otherwise I’ll probably pass on a buddies Zillion Rods.
  10. Add me on the list for not impressed with the GL2. Had a jig and worm and sold it. Was ok in sensitive department but blank didn't feel as crisps as an ***, Recon1, and Cumura gen1. I only kept my GL2 cranking rod. Plus the TW sale on those rep sample is complete BS. Rep samples are always 20-40% off. They marked rep samples back up to msrp and gave you a 25% discount? It should be rep sample discount plus the 25% discount, otherwise don't even include it in the bassmaster classic sale. If you research enough even the loyal Gloomis guys don't like the GL2's.
  11. Being up north I'm a rapala fan but the Scatter rap I'm going to pass on them. Too many times they started to just twirl in a spiral on the retrieve. They need to get a 3/8-1/2oz scatter rap so I can chuck that thing. Otherwise I'm sticking to my DT's.
  12. I love it when they have sales, because I go to TW and get price match and get a free shirt
  13. Megabass reel, megabass rod, megabass lure....do they make megabass fishing line? Sadly money is an object but one day........
  14. I never knew it was more of a fast action since their true cranking rod like the ballistic and steez flexlite is also labeled regular taper. I have been wondering why they didn't make a Medium Fast rod since I need one for Senkos/flukes to be paired with my T3. Maybe I should look into their 7' Medium Regular rod if it's more of a fast. I will also use it for 1/4 inline spinners for small mouths so a little less than a true fast may work too. Hummmmmmm
  15. I'll be ordering one Curado I. However I'm really interested to see if the Chronarch E's will go on clearance
  16. Mind as well match your tatula reel with a tatula rod at valley tackle. They sell that $150 rod for $110. I have no idea why Daiwa added gold accents to the rod when they are advertising it to be paired with the reel though. Well that's just me, I like color combos lol.
  17. Nothing special about this sale. Two weeks ago they had 25% off, now that was a sale. My bank account felt that sale. Our local dicks had them for $90 a month ago and they cleared out fast. I passed on them though.
  18. I will not be needing to find a rod that will do both. I already have other setups I can use for double duty. I'm just going to spoil myself with one high end setup and contemplating which setup should I put my money towards. I'll eventually get a nice setup for both but I have already spent a lot this winter and promised the wife just one more fishing rod then I'm done until spring
  19. 1/8 oz might be tough on a Medium rod even with a nice reel like a 50 series. I have a 51e paired with 6'7 MF *** chasing Smallies on the bank and wader fishing for them. Casting 1/4 oz is a breeze but 1/8 oz you can't really get great distance. A Medium light would be better suited for 1/4 oz IMO.
  20. Option A Use spinning setup for cranks 3/8oz and under Get 7'1 MH *** for jig, spinnerbaits, frogs, Texas rig worm, and a lot more. Option B Get 7'1 MF *** with Mono. Use 1/4oz jigs w/trailer. Use all cranks except DD's. Option C Get two setups, there are some great sales, just need to look.
  21. Ouch that's a tough one trying to get a rod that would be ideal for cranks and jigs considering their actions are pretty much the opposites. Could you spare to bring another setup? TW has sale on Daiwa Ballistics and Powell Deisel for around $55. You could get two for a little more than an *** but then you'd have to get another reel. If you cannot then this is what I would do. Use your spinning for cranks. Im assuming your spinning *** is a Medium fast? Spinning rods is usually lighter power than Baitcast. Then I'd go for a 7'1 MH ***. I have two of this rod and it is the most versatile rod I have. Balances so well with a reel around 7.5oz give or take. Perfect for jigs and spinnerbaits. You could get away with cranks and lipless if you use mono and set your drag lower. By getting the 7'1 MH you have a rod you can use with just about any tackle you have.....almost. Or if your throwing 3/8oz jigs or less and not much vegetation around your body of water the 7'1 M could fish smaller jigs decent and be a better rod with mono for cranks. I have been tempted to use my 7'1 M with mono for cranks because it is more sensitive than my GL2 crank rod. Even though crank rod is not really needed to be sensitive I want it. So if you go this route then is suggest you use 1/4oz jig with trailer and stay away from heavy matts. See jig n cranks are really two different rods needed but doable if you compromise.
  22. Yes people punch around here. Our natural lakes do have a lot of thick matts especially in the summer. During those hot summer days punching will produce because bass will be keeping cool there and ready to ambush blue gills and crappies. I fish tournaments so I need dedicated setups. Nothing worse than tying lures when the bite is on. I use senkos everytime. Flukes sometimes. During July to August will be punching season for me. So I won't punch as much, but during the right months and when upon the right cover I'll punch. I have made a point to focus hard on punching this season to gain confidence and learn. I know I'll end up spending money on this sooner or later. Just that I fish senkos so much I'm tempted to cheap out on my punch setup for a really nice senko setup. I've already bought a T3 1016, 3 Chronarch Ci4+ this past winter and looking to get the Curado I when it's out. Too many orphan reels with no rods to pair them up. I'm broke now, so only looking to get one quality rod for now. The other I'll just use my Omens which isn't too shabby either.
  23. I would be careful on basing your decision on the smoothness of a reel at the local tackle shop. Some reels have been there a long time and has been abused so they are not as smooth as they should. I went to a loca Cables and their display Chronarch E was horribly not smooth at all no matter how I set it to. Felt like it was grinding on something. Nothing like the 3 E series that I own. The display Tatula was silky smooth though. This flaw in display reels will effect people's decision in their purchases if they don't know. I would put more thought into how the reel palms for you when handling reels at the tackle shop.
  24. I've been using Baitcast on weightless senkos and flukes and I enjoy it more than spinning. There's nothing I can't do on a Baitcast that I can do on a spinning for these that I can think of. I already have a T3 1016 and going to add some BFS air bearings so I should be able to cast with the best of them. I'm leaning towards the technique I use more in weightless plastic but I feel like you can get away with average rods with line watching. Correct me if I'm wrong here. If there's more benefits to having a really sensitive rod for weightless flukes n senkos.
  25. Going to get another setup to add to my arsenal. I'm looking to get either a *** *** or Dobyns DX. At this moment I can only spend on one high end setup. Reel is a Chronarch Ci4+ that I just got. So I need suggestion to where I should invest in the better rod. Senko/Fluke I used very often and feel like I need to invest in a real good Baitcast setup. I am also going to concentrate this year on Punching. It's northern natural lakes so it won't be Florida punching but it'll still be heavy cover. Where would you guys put the money into of these two techniques? Senko/Flukes I will use more, Punching I will use less but need to detect bites. The technique that I don't choose to go high end I'll just use my average setups. Thanks.
