  1. I have a strike back that I bought from all the high praises from you, and wouldn't you know it's the only spinnerbait I own that hasn't caught a single fish. My War Eagles on the other hand get gobbled up. :-)
  2. I Texas rig my tubes with Trokar tube hooks, and a 3/16 tungsten weight. I also like to put them on a 1/4oz shakey head with a glass rattle inserted into the tube. On Lake Erie I use a 1/2oz or 3/4oz tube jig (bite me big head) and drag them along the bottom. I use them year round.
  3. What color is the senko with the red flake you're looking for?
  4. Stay away from the black senko with the blue tip. Total waste of money.
  5. Yes. I started with a Veritas for a season, and based off of some things I read here I bought a Duckett ... and then another. Night and day difference IMHO. Not as stiff, way better feel, and sensitive as all get out. The micro guides are not for everyone, but if you're OK with them I'd pull the trigger confidently.
  6. Check out the Daiwa Tatula rods. Every time I pick mine up I'm more and more happy with my purchase.
  7. Yes, and no. Some hard baits have a finish that no marker will adhere to - shiny/glossy type finishes. On others I've found that it will fade away from use. On a few with more of a matte finish it stays forever. From what I can tell the Spike It pens are sharpie makers with garlic scent added.
  8. That's why it's good to use the oil that comes with the reel to start with, and up until you get it cleaned. Then use the oil of your choice from there on out. Just my 2 cents.
  9. I do this, too. For colors and contrast I use the Spike It pens intended to color soft plastics with the garlic scent in it. They make a black color, too.
  10. For fun fishing I use the cheap stuff, but on tournament day you better believe I have the Rage Tail products in my tackle bag.
  11. I think the reason spinning gear is more common up here in the north (I'm in Ohio) is that most people who go fishing are going occasionally for recreation, and spinning reels are easier to use if you're only using it 3 or 4 times a year. We're all here on this board because we put a lot of time on the water, and are what most would consider to be more than just a "casual" angler. A baitcaster can be a daunting proposition for the uninitiated.
  12. I got a few hours on the water with this rod, and I am very happy with it. I got a chunky smallmouth, and a walleye. I'm really surprised by the overall quality, feel, and action on this rod. I am definitely going to get another - perhaps the frogging rod. If anyone has been on the fence about this rod you shouldn't be. Buy it, and enjoy. I think you get more rod than you pay for.
  13. Awesome trailer for a chatterbait.
  14. The same a musician gets to Carnegie Hall...... practice, practice, practice.
  15. Otherwise, my experience with TW has been amazing.
  16. This whole no sales tax for online retailers is going to disappear very soon. States are aware that they are losing a lot of revenue and are going after small businesses that order their supplies online as we speak. Eventually, I see the no sales tax thing going the way of the dodo bird. I work for a medical supply distribution company that does business online, and in the past we only had to charge sales tax for Ohio, California, and Florida as we have a physical presence in those states. As of 1/1/14, we are required to charge taxes in 17 States. Amazon being the case study for all of this you can easily do a search for more information. Just an FYI.
  17. For at least the sentimental value I think it's worth fixing up. I would have a professional look at it though.
  18. What line of Duckett? Ghost, MicroMagic, or Ice?
  19. Is it too early to make nominations for "Most asinine post of 2014"?
  20. For me it is now the only knot I use for fluorocarbon and copolymer line. Since switching to it I have not had a knot failure occur. Many people swear by the palomar, but it was not a knot I could tie confidently. I had too many knot failures.
  21. I'm in Ohio, and our Ollies has the Zoom baits, too! I think I'm stocked up on trick worms, tubes, and shakey head worms for the rest of my life. LOL!
  22. That's the poison color.
  23. It's a really good frog. I do well on the poison color.
