  1. I have watched bass come and eat my swimbait head first and not get the hooks. That would make sense why the bite was so hard. I finally stuck a few on the 6" tripe trout tonight to break my slump. Got on a good squarebill bite and switched it up and landed a few nice fish on the swimbait. How you liking the Gantarel? I just ordered one and have high hopes for it next spring.
  2. Last fall my father in law and I had a 27lb 5 fish limit in MN, which is almost unheard of. This spring we had a similar day with a 26lb limit including my personal best 6.76lb largemouth. Hoping this fall brings similar results.
  3. Keep at it Blue. I got on a good swimbait bite for a solid 2 month but I'm on a slump right now and have zeroed the past few trips. You know the game.
  4. Haha I think we all need some counselling in that department. Not one of my most graceful moments but makes for a good laugh. You know dead sticking spinnerbaits is all the rage right now, preferable pink with purple blades
  5. What I caught these fish on. Added music on this one so if you don't like Shinedown hit the mute button before playing. Watch in HD. I have a jig video coming up that has even bigger fish in it.
  6. I make jigs with both and tend to use all silicone or a mixture of both the most. Rubber adds more flair and movement when resting on the bottom (creating a bigger profile) and also slows down the fall rate, which can be very important at times. I think it is worth having a few jigs with a mixture of both silicone and rubber.
  7. We have one built in up here called winter. I'm itching to go come May and by the time winter rolls around again it seems like the time goes to fast.
  8. MN bass Under 1lb - dink 2lb- small 3lb- decent 4lb- nice 5lb - big 6lb - giant 7lb- Once in a lifetime (for most) 8lb- once in a few lifetimes 9lb- Congrats you have the state record
  9. Glad to see some more swimbait guys on here lately.
  10. Again, nice fish Wayne.
  11. Got my PB at 6.76lbs. Might take me a few years to beat this one.
  12. Favorite - Jigs/Swimbaits Least - anything finesse
  13. Awesome Smallie!
  14. Thanks guys! My dad whooped my butt with the classic 7" purple worm the first day but I knew the big bait would pay off if I stayed dedicated. Mark it's the SS. It's slower than a ROF 5 Hudd and tends to stay in the top 2 feet on a normal slow retrieve with some pauses mixed in. If you keep the rod tip up or manipulate the bait with the rod tip it will stay up in the top foot of water even with a slow retrieve. It's pretty versatile really, which I'm sure you have found as well fishing that Deps.
  15. Got out fishing 2 days this weekend. First day was a grind with nothing of size to show for it. I decided to go back to the same lake the next day and stayed dedicated to the Gan Craft 178 after seeing perch up shallow by overhangs and laydowns. Ended up putting some nice fish in the boat running this pattern. Select 1080 before watching for best video quality.
  16. Awesome fish!
  17. Thanks guys. Mark your trip up to Eagle looked awesome I enjoyed your vids! Dwight I wasn't using a leader and I was wishing I would have. I try not to use leaders unless the lake has a lot of toothy critters. It's risky but worth it Frog man lol.
  18. Nothing huge but got on a solid swimbait bite for a few day on the Gan Craft 178
  19. When it comes to spring 90% of the time if I'm dragging a jig or plastic it will be 1/4oz or lighter. A lot of times that is key for me to get my biggest bites. I like your style rocking the jig and swimbait, I think you and I see things pretty similar. 100% agree with the point I bolded. Especially when there are so many lakes to choose from. I spent my 1st 7 years with a boat fishing as many lakes as possibly. I'd fish between 10-20 different lakes each year. The last 3 years I've committed to catching big fish and I've dialed down those select few lakes that will consistently produce fish over 4lbs. You can't catch what isn't there, some lakes have it and others don't. Congrats again on a stellar trip shimmy.
  20. Awesome MN bass shimmy. Great numbers of fish over 4lbs for a 5 day trip!
  21. Haha i was waiting for this bud! I really thought it was 7lbs when i got her in the boat. Getting warmer to it each year
  22. Thanks Mark! Hope you do some damage on those big green fish as well bud. Looking forward to your vids.
  23. Thanks guys! Here is a 5 minute video with the big fish included toward the end.
  24. Been an awesome start to this early catch and release bass season. So far I have 12 fish over 4lbs with the biggest being 6.76lbs. Light t-rigged craw fatty has put all these bigger fish in the boat. Usually I get a bunch on jigs, but it's been a very specific bite this year. Here are some pictures and I'll add a video later that has the big fish on it.
