Make sure the unit has standard 2d sonar AND Down imaging. Those two views should be used together to decipher what you are seeing.

Small size screen HB Helix is good unit and deal. Mid size screens garmin 74sv and 94sv are really goodbang for the buck. HB Onix too Lowrance HDS are solid as well as the HB x99 series. I just ordered a Garmin 7608xsv. I think Garmin and the HB Onix have best and newest technology

The electronic sound is very faint. They have rattles too which totally drown out the electronic sound. It BS

I made a map of my 350 acre lake I made with my HB 898ci si. Took me two months and a ton of gas. 3 mph was max speed. I used a timer and made 15 min recordings. I used Dr Depth software (had to buy). Worked well but contour lines are not very close to show alot of detail. I had them made on 11 x 17 paper (two sided) and laminated. I have sold a bunch for $12. Here is the map.

Wayne, with Si td on trolling motor, I am curious what you see on si if the tm is pointed 90* left or or right so the si is pointing foward. ty

I would consider Bass jigs brushless or snagless. not neccesarily weedless.

If fishing weedy ares I would suggest a traditional texas rig with a pegged bullet weight.

Check the oil and see if it is milky colored. (that means water got in)
