  1. That's exactly what I'm saying. When it's tough here in north eastern nc, typically I go plastic. It works. I'm not sure if it's the finesse aspect, but like you said, it rules. Senkos, robo worms, ribbon tails, rage baits, and baby brush hawgs have kept the SKUNK away many times.
  2. I think fishing pressure has alot to do with it.
  3. Dude, stop being modest, sure you werent targeting walleye, but think about it this way... there are so many things that can go wrong in landing any 10 lb sport fish...especially on a drop shot rig and I'm guessing lighter tackle. Sooooo many guys would have lost that fish. You obviously did everything right is detecting the bite, getting a hook set, keeping the fish on and not allowing it to break you off while using what I would guess is lighter gear. When your number was called to haul in a double digit fish, you answered the call flawlessly. I love the msodesty, but give your self some credit, for being in the right place, fishing the right lure, and answering the door when big mama walleye came knocking!
  4. Whooo hooooo. Congratulations brother! That is one gorgeous fish! You are a trophy ?catcher! Should we expect a new replica going to the wall ? I am so excited for you. I showed it to my son, he said "I hear ya big dawg"
  5. I have an original tatula in spinning. I have the new tatulas in casting. They are just hard to beat. Ajay has some of the elites. He loves em. I'm going to get one too. I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices, being the zodias, daiwa, or the dobyns champ. I like your pick for spinning reel too. I wouldn't be afraid to get the comparable daiwa spinning reel either. Either way you go, you are.gonna have one heck of a sweet set up.
  6. Just be appreciative to them and make sure to always help them out with fuel....and please allow a friendship that.goes beyond fishing. Dont be a gold digger??
  7. Tuning a spinnernbait is basically a measure taken to correct it and to make it track correctly. If you toss it out and start retrieving it and see it coming toward you and moving to the right, you can take that bait in your hand and turn the wire slightly to the left and it will correct itself. Similar to sighting in a gun, sometimes it takes a couple shots to get it dialed in... just make small adjustments at a time. Big whopping adjustments can throw it way off. And yes, several brand new baits outta the box do not always track correctly all the time. Most of the time for me, it's a very minor adjustment. Every time I tie on a different spinner bait, I'll toss it out just where I can see it under water and see how it tracks. I try to really look at it the first cast after I catch I fish on them... sometimes fighting a fish will bend that wire some.
  8. Heck I lost another good one this morning. .. but I tend to throw them anywhere and everywhere.
  9. Find a 200 kayak...and when you get money upgrade to a nicer yak that is tailored towards anglers. I know a few people that use cheap recreational kayaks to catch fish. When there's a will theres a way.
  10. I use them until I lose them. Period
  11. I use fast and extra fast taper with braid. I do have my drag set a hair loose...but it all evens out.
  12. Personally I wouldn't tell them that you have 5 k for a down payment until you find the price that you want, then you and your bank if you choose to use the bank go about it the best way. The way they move money around I don't trust it. Get the price you want then figure a way to finance it,
  13. Way off topic- but I know that last comment to be true. I've been an on and off alcoholic for 5 years... I've gotten way more fishing in since I've been sober and in the 18 month span (a couple years ago) that I was sober. (Yeah i fell off the wagon for a year) no alcohol has made big difference on the amount of fishing I've done and where my fishing was as a priority.
  14. Its not horrible all the time here, but the worst time is if you are fishing in the mid or late afternoon during peak times. The lock down has made it hard here beciase the local lake parks are closed so alot of them are just going to the ramps and you have alot of people bank fishin, and hanging out, on top of an increase of people getting their boats wet.... lately Its hard for me cuz I'm home schooling kids so. Early isnt always an option. I go at 530 when gf gets home from the hospital and the ramp is pretty busy, not so much with boats just alot of people.
  15. @Dirtyeggroll you stated that you've been using it for 2 years...is this something that has been happening the entire time, or just recently this spring? If it is recent, could it be a bad batch of line? Is it possible that you have a damaged guide or something that is damaging the line? Is this the only rod that you are using this line on and is it happening on that set up as well? As for a suggestion for a good floro, Sunline products are good . I like sniper and assassin. All my fishing buddies use PLine Tactical ans love it. If it is as simple as switching lines, those are good one. Ice only heard good things about invizex
  16. Exactly. It was just a few years ago I was the happy medium. I just bought 3 reels on a steal of a deal and didn't bat an eye when I saw they were all 6.5:1.
  17. I'm with @slonezp. This is on the money. Get then18' with the optional 150hp. Add the stereo option. If ya gotta make payments, do it with music.
  18. Fish right handed reels. I fish right handed but I'm a natural lefty. I watch a video on fb of a little boy probably 5 years old flipping and pitching. He was using a left handed reel, fishing right handed, he never changed hands. It.got me thinking, maybe I'll try it. If a kindergartner can do it, I can
  19. It should be fine. I don't have one... but the specs sound good.
  20. In the trunk? Ugly stick. Unless you try one of the Ali Express rods mentioned above. You say beater, and I'm thinking 20 bucks that I'll never get back. If you put a decent reel on it, get you a good cover or wrap that you use while it's in the trunk.
  21. 2000-2500 size would be perfect. Cant beat a daiwa or shimano reel in tour price range.
  22. Nope, they dont work at all. Not one bit. Worst lure ever made. Hey, I actually have some extra room in my shop, feel free to mail them all to me and I'll take that horrible abomination of a lure off your hands and store it in a place that it won't see the light of day??
  23. Floro has Lack of line visibility, abrasion resistance, overall toughness, less stretch than monofilament lines. Advantages of braid, Near zero stretch, cuts through thick vegetation. I think it's a little more sensitive than floro, no stretch tells, me not much of the vibration is being absorbed, I'm feeling everything. I could be wrong, but I beleive Tom @WRB (a world class trophy bass catcher in his own right) said that he rarely uses braid in bass rigs, because he just doesnt have the vegetation in his fisheries that would make him want to use it versus straight floro. I on the other hand, fish fairly clear lakes that in places are chock full of water willow, hydrilla, milfoil, pond weed, and several species of floating vegetation. I use braid on almost all of my set ups and most of them, I'll tied a leader on. The only other reason besides your fishing environment to go full braid is to save money. Braid does cost a more than mono but can be used ALOT LONGER than floro or mono. I typically use braid for a whole year and then flip it over onto another reel and use the unused end. I save ALOT of money not buying alot of line every year. All that said, I do have a couple setups where I run straight floro. If it wasnt for the mass of vegatation I'd be probably be mostly floro setups. Except for spinning gear... only leaders for spinning. I an too short tempered to deal with floro on spinning. I'd have to own stock in KVD line and lure conditioner. Braid on spinning gear is a gift from above.
  24. I agree that skill in the electronics is a skill and in its own. You are right, I know a lot of people with 3 grand in electronics and basically only know how to tell the depth and use the main map. My 10 year old has caught on to it wayyyyy faster than I have and I've had.my current electronics since he was a year old. Knowing how to use and interpret that equipment to its fullest is a skill that most of us did not naturally have. So yes, if not using the tech, I would have found stuff by hearing about it, see others on the spot, and hanging a few lures in it till I figured it out...
