  1. Hooks EWG 2/0-6/0 Straight Shank flip 3/0-6/0 Weighted hooks 3/0 -6/0 Tungsten weights 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4, 1, and 1.5 You can probably stop at 1/2 or 3/4 since you dont do alot of heavy work. I also keep a hand full of jig heads, both the wacky football variety and straight shank ball head. 1/16, 1/8, 1/4
  2. M or MH with a fast action is fine. Shorter rods make it easier. 6'6 or 6'8 is good to start with. A decent reel makes a huge differnce too. If you have never done it before, use a spinning rod if youhave one. It will help get the mechanics down. And if you haven't done a lot of skipping, one piece of advice is, you don't have to sling the rod hard, that is a backlash waiting to happen. It should be free flowing flick of the wrist and follow through . How deep is you average dock? What type of lures did u have in mind. Any grass or vegetation ?
  3. Totally agree with Adam. I don't have the Tatula, but I do have 2 Powell 723s and there is a reason I have two of them. It is a darn good rod! Its no NRX. But it is light and sensitive and has a really soft tip. I use those rods for a lot of techniques ie softplsstics, t rigs, hollow body swimmers, swimmin jigs, chatter baits, flukes, jigs, spinner baits, weightless plastics, rage frogs, I have even used it as a back up for topwater and small crankbaits... And it does fine. Can't really say about the other rods, but I know you won't be disappointed with the Endurance Congrats on the new reel.
  4. The further I'm gonna drive the longer I'm gonna stay there. And I'm with Rhino, if I'm traveling a long ways, you can bet I'm not going for mediocre fishing. I went to Florida two years ago for a whole week of toad stickin... Wouldn't have driven that far for a couple days of maybe catching a fish.
  5. Spiderwire Ultimate Suffix 832 Power pro slick 8 Spiderwire Stealth Power pro I use Spiderwire Ultimate mostly but if I find the other two brands on clear out or on sale when I need some ill pick them up. They are all good brands. I just really like the spiderwire, not gonna say its any bettter than the others. They are all good. I use the cheaper PP and SW on striper, catfish, and flounder rigs. The list above is in no particular order. Except for Spiderwire on top is what I have on all of my bass rods right now.
  6. I have a buddy who does not fish tournaments, although he possesses the knowledge and instincts to do so. My thing with him. HE IS SO DARN SECRETIVE!! He never takes anyone to his really productive spots He keeps his lures down low in between casts if another boat is within eyesight. He rarely even tells me ( his best buddy) what his pattern is, or what he is using. We do a lot of fishing together, and go on shopping trips to bass pro together. We talk fishing together and will help each other when we are planning on fishing together or a after a trip.... But other than that he is pretty tight lipped. It just kills me, I would expct it out of a out of town pro, but my best pal... . Crazy.
  7. Mods yall can lock this one any time you are ready.
  8. I just on a boating forum, where someone said 10% of total weight was needed
  9. My 20 ft javelin with a 200 hp motor uses a 1000 lb jack. The boat weighs over 2700lbs empty. Lol I just had to go outside to check it to be sure. I was under the impression that it needs to be a thrid of the total weight. I think that 700lb jack can be had fairly cheap, it would be more than enough and you would rest easy.
  10. I'm another weirdo. I'm a lefty but other than writing and playing softball and baseball, I do everything right handed. My dad was old school and taught me to do everything right handed as if I could decide to be right handed even tho my body and brain wants to be left side dominant.... so fishing naturally fell in there too. Heck as a law enforcement officer, I used to carry and shoot right handed and was in the top 10% at qualifying annually. But even though I do a lot right handed, I can still do everything left handed and it for most part feels natural. Fast forward to 31 years old and bass fishing for 12 plus years. I buy right handed reels. For the most part, I fish right handed. If I'm pitching or punching at a fast pace, I will physically pitch with my left hand so I don't have to switch hands.. if I'm on a topwater bite and they are hitting within seconds of hitting the water, ill cast left handed. It also helps to be able to roll cast with the "other" hand beciase it opens a whole field of angles and targets to roll cast or pitch to. My suggestion to the OP is to get your hands on so.e rods and reels and practice. See what feels natural My suggestions to other guys, try using the wrong hand and see what u can do with it. My dad forcing me to be right handed sucked, bit I'm glad he did, because it made me ambidextrous... And helped me a ton in not only in pitching and flipping but as a person who uses tools on a daily basis.
  11. Try bitters best, see if they have the color in their take of the baits. If nothin else, see of one of the guys on here that pour plastics can make u one or if its feasible.
  12. If quit smoking and my weekend case of beer, I'd have and extra 55 or so bucks everyweek... Man my shop would look crazy... I'd have to shop and stare at online tackle stores in my phone just to fight the cravings. If I quit my morning cup of coffee and a red bull every after noon at work, that total would come up to 75 bucks. If I quit going to the batting cage two times a week, I'd have a extra 15, bringing that total up 90 or so. That's 360 plus or minus for the month, man.... It would probably go straight to the boat or tackle... This was just a silly illustration of how mind works. My wife posed the question, what would I do with the extra money if I quit smoking.... Tackle and gear. Its a disease fellas....its a disease... And the darn thing is, I still haven't quit any of those things... And my shop and boat still look crazy. To answer the OP, yes, yes, and yes
  13. That's a mean little reel! A guy that lives near me has one and I was super impressed. He also has the PX68 and Alphas 105 and man oh man, those reels are so well built. They are light as a feather and I know from first hand that one can cast a weightless trick worm from the back door clear to the back alley with little effort. ( said test was with a 2 power g Loomis rod )
  14. I plan on writing a reveiw on them including a comparison of the two reels and how they compare on a practical level.
  15. 0 - 40 feet is a big difference. What depth or average depth will you be at the most. And are the any types of vegetation, or cover,
  16. Why not get your self a heavy slop combo and learn frogs and heavy topwaters. And at the same time buy a few Seibert jigs and tie the jigs on your t rig combo. Jigs are very versatile baits and can be learn easily. Most t rig combos should be ok for jigs... Just don't try to throw tiny jigs with a broom stick and don't throw monster jigs with a finesse rod. Mj is right, I like having either a hollow body or a rage frog on the deck when I'm pitching jigs and vice versa
  17. I have a 7'2 mag H rod. It is an extra fast tip. Its great for frogs and big spooks and lunker plunker baits. It is also an excellent jig rod! For bigger jigs I want a big stuff rod with a really fast really soft tip, and I found that went I'm throwing a frog over slop or a homongous topwater bait, I want the same thing. The tip of that rod is just enough to work that bait perfectly. But I want a lighter rod for poppers, and average 3 inch walking baits, they tend to be a little lighter.
  18. No! Certainly not burning my Powell's. They are terrific rods! I love em! But if Dobyns DX rods are good I might get a few more. Ill still buy Powell's. I just wasn't impressed with the new TiMax rods.
  19. Oh boy... It's turning into one of "those" threads.
  20. The good thing is, I only bought one. And once I take it out a few times and fish it, I will be able to evaluate it myself. I wanted to treat myself to a top of the line bottom contact rod, because I spend more time pitching jigs than anything else. If I do find that it is no greater than a the Endurance 714, that I fish jigs with now, then all I lost is 40 bucks. 714 is now 200... No humongous loss. ...... But I seriously doubt I will find a lot of fault with that rod. I was going to add another 7 foot jig rod to the deck anyway. And the core reel.... Wow... I mean I have fished Lews reels since their comeback and I am thoroughly impressed,... But it was the Core and I paid a ham sandwhich to get it....so I'm pretty stoked. Not a turn coat or anything, but I'm not stupid either... I know top shelf gear when I see it.
  21. Wow. I don't think anybody saw this coming. Seattle is playing like there is no Tmw
