  1. I use a Powell Endurance 712 with the 10lb braid and 6-8 leaders. (I dont fish for smallies, not many smallies here) love this rod. Powell did not make this rod as a drop shot specific rod, but i did, and i absolutely love it, light and sensitive. I have it paired with a Stradic Fj All of the brands you listed are fantastic rod builders. If money was not a variable, I personally would shoot for the G Loomis NRX 822DSR. Alot of the brands you mentioned make Drop shop specific rods that will have line and lure ratings that your set up will fall into.
  2. Borrowing a name from a BR member.....broke bass
  3. I love Powell Endurance and Max rods, but they dont really make a rod that i like for Jerk Baits. If they made an Endurance 682 id probably be all over it, but they dont. Dont know what your budget, but for 100; id llook at the Shimano Compre Reactiom, 6'8" Med. If you have a bit higher budget, I look at the St. Croix Avid or St. Croix Legend Tournament rods of similar specs.
  4. Wow!! Was that a tourney day? I can never have days like that on saturdays when its tourney day. Good fish dude!!
  5. I try to have a lightweighted soft plastic on standby. Not limited to senkos and trick worms, ive used regular old u tail zooms and fluke style baits as a follow up. The key forr me is to be able to get the follow up lure out there in a hurry accuratley and quietly.
  6. Snook have you looked at any of the OKUMA reels? Im not really familiar with them but alot of the salt/brackish guys and guides up here give them a strong following. Okuma is not shimano or penn but alot of the gys say that those reels are tanks and have good durability.

**something my dad, made me and my brothers do** Every hunt, practice, scout walk, before we left, he made us recite Remmingtons, "4 golden rules" to firearm safety.

Look Raider, only you and the wife know your child the way yall do. Only you guys know when it is a reasonable time to introduce your child to firearms. You seem like a reasonable guy, i dont know what the uproar is about, its not like you were going to give him the rifle and let him go with it and or sleep with it in his room unlocked. Anybody with common sense would guess that the firearm would only be unlocked and used when you are home and in extremly close proximity to the child. Personally, im with the crowd of guys that says educate you child with SAFE firearms practice now. The younger the better. And let him know, that if he ever touvhes your cabinet that you will strangle him and he wont use them anymore I grew up shooting and hunting for small game when i was about his age. However, i was not allowed to be alone (hunting) with a firearm or a bow until i was 14 years old...my parents made that judgement based on my maturity level. And even then, my dad and older brother were in close proximity. I do think that it ok for you to start with him now, but like i mentioned twice, you need to be standing over him and have alot of "scouting" trips with him. Good luck Raider.
  9. Thats my FAVORITE SPINNERBAIT period. Ive been using war eagle a long time I have about a dozen of that exact spinnerbait. I had a day last september on Roanoke Rapids Lake NC, where i caught 10 bass between 1.5 and 3 lbs on the screamin eagle in spot remover color.
  10. Man, thats awesome!! I love Mikeys videos. I learned alot about Punching and fishing heavy cover from his videos. Looks like you guys had a blast!!
  11. I had a BR member pm me a couple months ago with a similar problem with his brand new Tourney Pro. I advised him to break it down and clean it and relube it, but do so with care not over lube or over grease it. He messgaed me back a while later to tell me that it done the trick and his reel seemed alot smoother, quieter, and could cast a mile. Ive had a 2 out of my 8 Lews come WAY OVER LUBED and thats what i had to do.
  12. Needle nose pliers, finger nail clippers, and scissors in a nylon pouch hanging on my pedestal and a small red Flambeau tool box with tools in it that i keep on the floor just in front my drivers seat, but not under the console..(kinda under my legs while i drive) The tool box consist of long nose pliers with a 45 degree angled nose, foreceps, extra pair of scissors, channel lock pliers, slip joint pliers, cresent wrench, phillips and flat head screw drivers, few zip ties, a tube of 5200, and a couple of old pocket knives. I also keep a small cheap socket and ratchet set in the rear compartment of the boat (3/8) It sounds like alot, but its really not... The tools i use the most are the ones on the front pedestal.
  13. I catch a bunch of these guys. Pickrel are fun fish to catch. THEY LOVE A FIRE TIGER CRANK.
  14. "Cant we all just get along" Lol. 5 minutes until more draft mistakes are made.
  15. I said it once, Ill say it again. Silly kids, Carrots are for rabbits!!
  16. 6:1 gear ratio reel is pretty much good for everything. You have the ability to speed up or slow down if needed. If i didnt know what i was going to do with a certain reel or want it to do everything, this what i would get. 7:1 is something i like for my flipping/pitch/ punch rods. But i can use it for almost any bottom or topwater technique. I want to be able to pick up slack quickly, especially for topwater. As for punching or extremely heavy cover, its nice to be able to have those extra inches per turn to get that hog out of the slop and snaggy hazards as quick as possible. 4-5:1 i kinda reserve thisa ratio for heavyy pulling lures like big cranks... not needed for shallow or cranks under 12ft. (I use a 6:1 in that case)
  17. The pick yall gained at 74 could prove to be useful. Theres alot of good players taken in the 3rd. That can mean depth at any position which yall need.
  18. Not a Cowboys fan, but lets just wait and see what the kid does. I was stunned by the move too. There were other players of other positions and position needs that might have been safer picks, but Jerry and Jason Garret must know something that led them to that choice. I wouldnt pay much attention to his 40 time, alot of the big guys play much faster than they can run. This a DEEP DRAFT for DTs, Dbs, and OL and that will play to yalls favor. Yall are only a few peices away from being a force. Just be patient and watch the rest of the draft Im just glad that yall left Star Lettoulei on the board for my Panthers.
  19. For your first baitcaster, i would stay away from a pure Fluoro. A good 10-12# mono or co poly line is a good starting point. I dont use it but i understand that P Line makes a some good copoly lines that will serve you well. Co poly will give you the best of both worlds until you get the hang of casting with a baitcaster. Yo yuri hybrid could also be a good choice. It is castable, limp, and affordable. The cover and possible hazards would dictate line size, but its hard to go wrong with 10-12 to start.
  20. Spinnerbait/chatterbait is def what i was thinking. Im just gonna pack a few jigs, few craws, spinner baits, chatterbaits, couple of square bills, and a few worm/senkos. Ill make sure i have a few sammies, poppers, and some super flukes and skinny dippers. Not gonna carry much... just enough to burn some time and maybe hook some fish... I wish i did have a hole day...i would def rent a canoe or yak
  21. Oh man, i just sold the exact same reel to Quitlimpin, a Bantam CU 200 for 45. I orginallyy asked 80 a few months ago and got no bites. I still have another that is a back up. Not for sale..yet. But the Bantam Curados are darn good reels. I havent used the new E series but its just as good as the G series i have. It is a casting machine. I think 60 bucks is very fair. If they are well cared for and cleaned then you will have a dynamite reel for 60 bucks.
  22. I planned on hitting the river at day break and fishing till 11 or so. ....i can sleep when im dead.
  23. I wont really have alot of time, ill be over at the Nuclear Power Plant from 1 pm till mid night for 4 days. Yall know any good areas off the top of your head where i can get pubblic access to the river...never been there so i dont know what to expect. I dont have alot of room in my work truck, so im just gonna take 2 rods, 7'MH. Casting and a 7'ML spinning and a small box of lures.
  24. Hey guys, Im going up to Berwick PA. (i southwest of Scranton) for a week for work in the next couple weeks. Anytime, i go out of town (all the time) for work, i always use google maps to see whats around the area im going to. I saw a river that runs through that town. And on this particular trip, ill be working at night as opposed to working during the day and i will have time for fishing (from the bank of course, cant take my boat with me) Any info that can be given will be much appreciated. Edit: found that it is the Susquehanna river,
  25. Not a punching rod, but would probably be a great worm/ jig rod. The rods i punch with are all 7'6" - 8' and Heavy action
