Since the thread is a little slow, I thought I would ask a question I have been kicking around in the "off season." What types of electronics are you guys running on the res? I am looking to get a new finder soon and wanted some input. Currently running a $79 humminbird, so anything will be an upgrade. I meant to add that I have a 12 foot aluminum v-hull.

I am looking to upgrade my fish finder and really like the side imaging things I have seen and read. What is not clear is how useful it would really be to me. I almost exclusively fish a local resevoir that is 55' deep at the most. I tend to be in coves in 15' or less casting toward shore. Coves are less than 50 yards wide at the mouth. I have a 12' jon boat with a sub-$100 finder currently. I would like to find fish easier and see structure more clearly. Will I get that much extra benefit out of SI vs a nice system with down scan sonar? I tend to go to a cove and stay there for an jour or more before moving to another spot, which may be an issue in itself. I am looking for bass if that helps. Also, is there such a thing as a "budget" si unit, or do they all start around $400 (which is a stretch for me)?Thanks for the feedback.

Anyone ever have any luck out here when it has rained really hard like this and the water looks like chocolate milk? Brother is coming in town and he would like to go out if possible. I know there will be a bunch of debris.

Surprised no one has said this yet but check out TackleJunkie81's YouTube page for a thorough cleaning. I walked through his videos last year and stripped my reels all the way down and cleaned them by myself for the first time with little issue. His videos are great. TackleJunkie81 Check him out.

Went out today and caught 5 dinks. Thanks to big poppa, I tried my 8" worm on a football head hook which got me 3 and a nice one that got away. Two others were on 15' diving jerkbaits and one hit two feet from me pulling The lure out of the water. Went out before sunrise but caught nothing on buzzbaits or frogs. Fun day though. Water has cooled to about 76.

So I ordered a Black Dog Baits G2 Shellcracker from Tackle Warehouse in February, but then learned it was back-ordered. I then saw Thehooligan had two for sale on Monday at a price I couldn't resist. So guess what I received in the mail today? My wife thinks I'm crazy, but they are totally different colors!

I actually have two in on my other reel. I need to experiment with that one and see how it feels to push one brake in and remove one totally. Alone, I really appreciate the offer, can anyone that owned both a shimano and H2O reel confirm that they are interchangeable?

I tried the manufacturer today, but they can't supply parts on used products. Then she told me they dont have those parts for the menace or mettle because they are discontinued, and my best bet would be to go into the store and ask if they had one. Of course I am not near a store.

I was thinking about the crew teams today, and wanted to pass on a thought. I've had them yell at me, almost hit me, etc, but one thing to keep in mind when expressing our frustrations, is that there are high schoolers in many of those votes. That means if someone started a fight and a minor jumped in, an adult is looking at assault on a minor. If we harass a boat to where they feel threatened, it's threatening a minor (or group of them). We all get frustrated, but no one wants to be in court on a felony.

Was going to go out Friday but did not remembering the debris from last time we had a rain like this. Did some bank fishing instead Friday and Saturday but caught nothing. Had a little nibble at one point on a worm but think it was probably just a sunnie. Hoping for clearer water next weekend.

How old is the reel? I have heard of some individuals on here having similar issues out of the box and they were replaced.

I bought a used H2O menace, which I like, but two of the brakes were removed. The pins are there, just not the part you push in or out. Anyone have any extra or have an idea of what to use instead? Thanks.

The mettle does not come in 7.1:1. I have a mettle and like it, but it is 6.3:1. How much of a difference is 26 vs 29 inches on a retrieve? Is it that noticeable?

I am looking at buying a new (or used) reel. Should I get a H2O manic or pro qualifier? Or maybe something else... Don't want to spend more than $70. Want the 7.1:1.

Not much experience but thinking Jigs, deep cranks, jerkbaits, and Carolina and drop shot for plastics.
