  1. So I am planning on putting in some time this year with chatterbaits and noticed that most don't seem to have weedguards. Don't they hang frequently in heavy grass/vegitation without one?
  2. Struck out today after being out a couple hours. Only used the trolling motor though so did not go far.

So the chatterbait I got at the end of last season has a weed guard. I like the action and want to give them a try this year. It is chartreuse and Orange. In looking at other colors, it seems that most don't have weed guards. Do they not snag a lot in weeds without them? I should add that I fish a medium heavy rod with 15# mono.
  4. Great thread. I bought some jerkbaits for this winter, but it has been iced over here. Killing me.
  5. I've come back to a tree, climbed it with a saw and cut down a small branch to get back a good lure that is working for me... But in general, I don't give up as early as I should on lures. [ quote name=CWB" post="1465020" timestamp="1393659400] Usually when I hang one up in a tree I can't reach or snag something I cant get it off of I give up.
  6. Went to BPS today with my gift card and picked up the road warrior special: Yum flashmob jr, LFT Live Magic Shad (on sale BTW), #3/0 BPS Offset Worm Hook, and Johnson Silver Minnow. Can't wait to try it out. I've been thinking about the Alabama rig, but didn't want to buy a new rod and reel. This lightweight version will let me do it with my MH rod. Now I just need it to warm up enough to fish. Thanks!
  7. Interesting that no spinnerbaits (some swim Jigs) and especially no frogs.
  8. Thanks for the tip. Just opening it to do some regular cleaning and lube.
  9. I have a rear drag bass pro shop stampede spinning reel that I have no manual for. Anyone know how to disassemble this thing?
  10. How did I not know this? A great tip amongst a whole pet of great info. Thanks. [quote name="Sam" post="1442938" 1. Remember, a yellow eye means the jerkbait floats and a red eye means the jerkbait suspends.
  11. After watching tacklejunkie's video on cleaning (which was great btw) , he uses ardent reel cleaner for his entire side plate for cleaning his one way bearing. Is that what you all use? Acetone would damage the plastic cover right?
  12. I don't understand how you get that weight in the tube and on the hook...
  13. I bought the three pack of ardent lube: bearing lube, gear grease, and reel oil. I used the grease on the drag washers. Are you all saying I shouldn't use any of them? I just did two reels...
  14. Is it a problem if you have two bearings of the same looking size and mix them up when putting them back after cleaning? If so, how do you keep them straight when putting them in the solvent.?
  15. Some light filing did the trick. Thanks guys!
  16. Look at Glenn's video on the subject. It is good. Then you can watch the video he recommends if you want to go deeper. I just did my first and it was way easier than expected.
  17. I am having trouble taking off my drag washers from the main shaft. I don't want to force them so does anyone have any tips or is there something special with this reel? I had no problem with my express. It is almost like there is something stopping it where the thread stops going the full way around. Thanks! Edit: I decided to reassemble it and wait for ideas and now cannot get the washer on prior to the handle, or even the handle without it. I wonder if the owner before me somehow messed up the shaft...
  18. That you have to use your thumb when casting... Rookie move, but I had no idea and the guy at BPS didn't tell me. Watch bassresource's YouTube videos on how to use them. I learned on a cabelas tourney zx and love it. I also wish I had known about different gear ratios for different purposes.
  19. I don't have much experince with this, but I'll take a shot and see how accurate I am. I'd put the new diawa reel on the carbonlite and use it for spinnerbaits and top waters. You may even try throwing a frog with it if you are not going into thick stuff if the rod is stiffer than a medium, but time will tell and the only way to find out is try. I would put the citica on the clarus and use it as a crankbait rod. The lower gear ratio will work better for cranks and mf action will also help with the trebels. I would keep using spinning gear for your worms as that's what I use and like for it. I would put mono on the citica for more stretch with the cranks and maybe braid on the diawa as it will be better should you try a frog. That said, I have mono on everything, but that is impacted by price and versatility. Congrats on the new reel!
  20. Where is the frog love?
