  1. If I start missing a lot of fish, I'll check my hook. If it ain't soul-swallowing sharp, I replace it with one that is. If I still miss fish, I will wait just a bit longer before sticking them.
  2. There's always room for improvement. Like pudding. I like to aim low so I don't disappoint, so I'll put myself at a 6.5. But there's some days I feel like a 3. My biggest weakness is not experimenting with other techniques as often as I should.
  3. If you want to protest the Muck Boot company, you can send me any size 11-11.5 Muck Boots you may have. That'll show em.
  4. Looking at some of the Havok baits like the Back Slide and the Pit Boss....I don't know what these baits are supposed to imitate, but if I saw anything in the water that looked like those things, I'd never go swimming again.
  5. 16 posts before anyone mentioned vienna sausages. I usually make a few sammiches and keep em in the ice chest. Or some if those tuna packets with a cheap loaf of white bread. A few candy bars. Maybe a big cup of boiled peanuts, too. But that has consequences. I've crapped in most the major bass lakes in the south. And a bunch that weren't major.
  6. I wanna know more about your NuCanoe Frontier! I love how customizable they are and how much weight they can handle.
  7. My old man says that his favorite worm of all time was a 7" purple/purple firetail worm that Mr Twister made. Now days I can only find a black with purple firetail worm by Berkley.
  8. I can't stand it when one of the hunting celebs gutshoots a deer, then he/she talks about the awesome shot they just put on it. Along the same lines, they are usually more concerned with making sure the shot was caught on film rather than making sure it was a clean, ethical kill.
  9. I put as much stock in those fishing calendars as I do fortune cookies, the horoscope and the topless palm reader gal at the carnival. I try to rely on the weather, time of year, and my familiarity with the body of water I'm fishing. Luck sometimes comes into play too!
  10. I enjoy a lot of soulfly, primer 55, rage against the machine, and hatebreed. When I'm float tube fishing I listen to Clutch almost exclusively. Sometimes I like to fish to some punk, like Black Flag, The Casulties, or Fugazi.
  11. Fine by me. The only info I have on my FB is my name. I don't put my hometown, schools I've attended, and sure as hell who my employer is. I think I've got more info on the Bass Resource profile than my Facebook account. But anymore, if you order anything off the internet, there's no telling who has what kinda information off you.
  12. I hate Facebook as well, but I still have one. I have only limit it to friends that I have hunting, fishing, and coonhounds with. As soon as I see posts from friends showing or telling pics about their kids (unless its hunting or fishing related), those people go into the cooler or get unfriended. If someone sends me a friend request that I know doesn't share my passions, I don't add them. They're not that good a friend anyway if they dont! If I post anything on Facebook, its fishin, huntin, coondogin or gun related. I'll join BR on Facebook cause it falls into one of my categories. Facebook is as simple or stupid as you make it
  13. Double barrel coach gun in 12 gauge, loaded with #4 buck in the kitchen, a Springfield XD40 by my bed, and 2 sociopathic pitbulls that allow me to live here in exchange for wild hog meat and air conditioning.
  14. Got a favorite tactic or bait for smallmouths in hot weather? I'm heading down to fish a river this weekend that I usually fish in fall or winter. Temps supposed to be in the upper 90s to 100s from now till then. Probably gonna be starting out with 3-4" tubes and grubs, but would like some suggestions on other stuff I should probably throw in just in case. Thanks!
  15. I'd rather have bass thumb than flathead hands. But, if you are getting bass thumbs, you're having a good day! Embrace the pain!
  16. I dont remember the permits being a hassle to get. Just drop by that water treatment office at the top of the hill on your way the lake. Pay a few bucks and go fishin. Unless they've changed it, it's not a big deal to fish there.
  17. Take Memorial south about 20 minutes to Leonard and fish Bixhoma lake. Can be a challenging lake to fish but I've caught a couple toads in the timber.
  18. Same here. The chrome and the crawdad colored are my favorites. My only complaint is that the paint wears off em cause of so many fish tearing em up!
  19. That's what I do. Find out what your weight limit is and just check the reels and tackle. I always travel pretty light so I usually have extra room in my duffle. I've never lost a bag...knock on wood...and I fly at least 3 times a year to fish or bowhunt. Make sure you put a tag on your bag with your contact info too.
  20. I'd say you're good to go then. TSA can be pretty finicky, tho. They can be a pain dealing with them cause they like to find loopholes in their own rules and leave the same rules open to interpretation.
  21. Maybe try wiping the head down with mineral spirits to remove any oils that may be on the head?
  22. Can't help you about Rayburn, as I usually fish Lake o the Pines when I'm south of the Red. What I'm curious about is can you bring lures in your carry-on now? When I fished Australia last year, everything had to be checked.
  23. Any song by Clutch on my way to the water
  24. 3/8 football jig, usually with a trailer of some sorts. Black/blue most the time but sometimes I go to a red/black.
  25. I remember many years ago watching Bill Dance fish Okeechobee with a guide, using bobbers and big live shiners. When a bass would move off with that shiner, the guide would make Bill wait, not letting him set the hook, and it drove Bill crazy watching that bobber take off thru the grass and wasnt able to set the hook. It was nice seeing him, in a way, out of his element, and still reminds me that right about the time Ive gotten as good as Ill ever be, theres still different methods that Ive never attempted yet.
