How are you putting on the tubing? A small 1/4" piece put over the eye of the trailer, then put the spinnerbait hook through the eye of the trailer, and the tubing will hold it. Or you can put the trailer on the spinnerbait hook and then put the tubing on the spinnerbait hook just behind the trailer, sideways, so that you stab it and it stays put.

Walmart has all the Berkley Lightning Rod Shock series for $39! Not that I needed another rod, but I picked up a 7‘. Too good to pass up! They are between $49 and $59 everywhere else that I've looked.

Check out www.tinboats.net. Lots of useful info on there. First word of advice....treated wood and aluminum don't mix! Buy untreated plywood and seal it with a water sealer like Thompsons. There is copper in pressure treated lumber that can slowly destroy aluminum that it is in contact with.

First off, not too many die hard anglers care about the Oscars, do they? (J/K!) With the Classic, my guess is that 75% of the attendees are from the city that its held in. They will DVR the Daytona if they care about that. But BASS doesn't televise the Classic until a week later, so anyone NOT there is just watching updates and weigh-ins on there computer. So in reality, they aren't competing against anything, because I could watch the Daytona and check Classic updates at the same time, and so could the fans at the race. When it is shown next weekend, there is no competion. Does this make sense?

Watch out for Paluniuk, too. Guy is used to fishing cold weather, and he finished 4th in the Classic his rookie year.

Get yourself a small 3 or 5hp motor with an internal gas tank to save on weight and space. Check Craigslist for one. I see them here all the time for between $200-$300 in good shape.

$500???!!! Not a chance. The price is only as high as someone is willing to pay. And I'm not willing to pay that.

Buy used, definitely. Craigslist ALWAYS has some with trailers. Especially if it's your first one. Then you can play around and customize how you like. I found my boat at an estate sale for $100 and put floors, carpet, and compartments in it the way that I wanted to. I would love a new boat (who wouldn't), but I love the way mine came out and now I know what I would really want in a new one after having a few years to mess around with mine. Just an idea...

If you do decide to get the 10'er, check out www.tinboats.net for ideas on a casting deck. This site really helped my modify my Alumacraft by seeing what has worked for other people.

Fishing line. Just kidding. Mono works well when you are learning to use a baitcaster, usually 12-14 lb. test. It's cheap to learn with. I have read other people's opinions, too, and some say other types. Mono worked for me, and I didn't feel so bad messing up the line with backlashes since it was inexpensive.

Hello all. Love the site. I've been reading it for a while and realized that I should join in the conversations. Live in Indiana. I mostly fish in the northwest Indiana area, mainly for bass (but occasionally bluegill with my neighbor). I love fishing the numerous smaller lakes in the area and have managed to catch some nice largemouth bass in the process. I look forward to adding any information that I may have to help out, while learning a lot more!

The new BPS Extreme Spincast reel looks interesting. Appears to be well made. All metal gears, star drag, etc. Was looking to get on for my son ( and for me to try out of curiosity). I usually fish with spinning gear, but a decent spincast reel can still get it done. Just get what your comfortable with. The fish don't know the difference!

The Rosemont show has gone WAY down. Last year I left very disappointed. This year I didn't go. Went out to Schaumburg instead. Nice show, met Zona. He seems very down to earth. But I agree, the deals just weren't there. Brought some cash expecting to buy a rod and reel but couldn't find a price that I thought was a deal. I can find better prices online.
